Proverbs 25:20-28

Yeah Well this where every day we get together we get into God's Word and we grow in our love for the Lord together in this year 2021 What would we do Dan? make it through all the what wisdom literature that's right we'll make it through all the wisdom literature we're at proverbs chapter 25 verses 20 through 28 let's go ahead and let's have some coffee we'll pray and we'll get into God's word well no coffee for me yeah you decided to come in last minute didn't you yeah do you know what i got invisible coffee invisible coffee okay let's pray father we thank you so much for being able to be in your word we pray that you would bless us and care for us teach us this day in jesus's name amen proverbs chapter 25 verses 20 through 28 like one who takes away a garment in cold weather and like vinegar or soda is one who sings songs to a heavy heart If you're playing out in the snow, would you like someone to take your coat? Or what about, uh, if, uh, remember when we did the volcano experiment and we poured the vinegar on the baking soda? What happened to it? It exploded. It exploded.
And remember when we put the cap on and it went Yeah, you remember that what the Bible says that you know what that's like it's like if you're singing all happy And somebody has a sad heart doesn't make them happy Yeah, that was really loud though, I bet I bet you heard our friends ears yeah, so so should so should we mourn with those who mourn and Yeah.
Should we be sad with people who are sad? Yeah. Yeah. All right, let's go ahead and read 20 and 21. You ready? If an enemy is hungry, give him some bread to eat. If he is thirsty, give him water to drink. For so you will heap coals of fire on his head, and the Lord will reward you. Right, what did Jesus say? Jesus said, you have heard it said, love your neighbors and hate your enemies. But I say unto you, you shall love your enemies and bless those who persecute you. Right, so who's your neighbor? Who's my neighbor? Yeah, who's your neighbor? I have a lot of neighbors.
You do? Yep. But we live in the middle of the cornfields. We drive to the city sometimes, but like Mac, Mac, Mac, and... And do you think you can be kind to all those people even when they're mean to you? Like Benjamin. Do you think you can be kind to all those people even though they might be mean to you? Yeah. Yeah.
I can just tell my mom, they hit me. That's right, that's right you can turn the other cheek All right, let's read verse 23 you ready The north wind brings forth rain and a backbiting tongue and angry countenance. So when they were in Israel, they knew if the wind was blowing from the north, it meant that there would be rain. And they also knew that, you know what else that you know? What?
If you're sharp with one, is it going to make things good? No. But if hamsters are just climbing on you, that may take a while. Yeah, Daniel got hamsters yesterday. It is better to dwell in a corner of a housetop than in a house shared with a contentious woman. If mommy is really really like, well mommy's not this way, but if there was a wife, a mommy who was like always mad and always mean and always like trying to pick fights, would it be nice to live in a house like that? And you know all that in some movies and stuff like that. Yeah, but are you glad that your mommy's not that way?
Yeah, that's right. Some people will actually torture their children. Yeah, is that good? No way. Alright, let's keep reading. As cold water to a weary soul, so is good news from a far country. Do people like to hear good news? Verse 26. A righteous man who falters before the wicked is like a murky spring in a polluted well.
Oh, so do you like to go down to the creek? You like to walk there? Do you like to play in the creek? Yeah, and we sometimes see tiny little frogs. Now what if you went down to the creek and there were tiny little frogs and they were all dead because the water was polluted? Would you like to play in the creek then?
No. You know what that's like? That's like when somebody who knows what to do goes before someone who's an enemy of God and they don't do the right thing. Yeah, yeah, do you think that you might be tempted by the evil one to not do the right thing? Yeah Yeah All right. Let's keep reading with Kerry.
It is not good to eat much honey So to seek one's own glory is not good. You know that jar of honey we have Don't eat the whole thing. What would happen if you they hate the whole jar of honey? Oh Remember that thing that was bigger than your head? And we ate it slowly. But what would happen if you tried to eat all of it at once? What would happen to your belly? And if you ate another... You think you could get sick? And if you ate another jar it would be like... Do you think it would be good or do you think you'd feel like... And if you ate another jar, it would be like... Yeah, you'd go...
Right? That wouldn't be good. And you would have a lot of vomit. You know what else is kind of gross like that? When people try to puff themselves up. Yeah. Right? When people try to act like they're better than everyone else. When you seek your own glory. Whose glory should we seek? God's glory. That's right.
Okay, let's read the last verse, right? You ready? I can't start. They kind of like won't. Yeah. Okay, you ready for the last verse? The last verse is, like a city broken down without walls, it's a man who has no rule over his own spirit. Oh, but that looks like Satan. Satan and his, like, walls forming there. Yeah, but this is saying, like, if Daddy doesn't have any self-control, I don't have any defense. If you're like this.
The war is already over, can you? Do you think a castle would be much of a castle without a wall? Uh, no. It wouldn't be a castle because if it wasn't with a wall, it wouldn't be protected. They could shoot right through. That's right. It's the same with your heart. If you don't have self-control, the enemy can shoot right in. And if there's a leather thing that's blocking the wall and the wall falls down, they can shoot right through the leather. So how do you think we can get self-control? Whose spirit do we need to have?
It starts with a G. God, Spirit, that's right. It starts with a G and it ends with a S. Okay, God, Spirit, that's right. Well, this is, we kind of got on a little bit over time. We've had so much fun this morning. Let's go ahead and pray. Father, we thank you so much for this day and I thank you for the wisdom that you've given us. I thank you for Dan Dan joining today. Lord, I pray that you would let us follow after you. I pray that we would be humble and that we would be courageous in the time of affliction. I pray that we would have good news to bring, but we would also be able to have sorrow and mourning with those who weep. We thank you so much that you have suffered and you can aid us in our hour of temptation.
Please let us fix our eyes on Jesus as he has shown his love toward us who were once his enemies. In Jesus' name, amen. May the Spirit of God live and dwell in you.
