Proverbs 26:1-7

Morning this morning. We've had Cows and broken bowls and all sorts of things this morning So we're at Proverbs chapter 25 or 26 Proverbs chapters 26. Well, good morning. Good morning. Welcome to coffee and devotions That's where every day we get together. We get into God's Word and we grow in our love for the Lord together And this year, 2021, we'll make it through all the wisdom literature. Yeah, all the wisdom literature. That's right.
Well, we've had broken bowls right before we were supposed to come. And then, not bowls, but bowls. And then we had cows. Broken plates. Well, it was a bowl. But yeah. That was broken bowls. And then some cows down the road got out. So we were outside helping with that. And then I got in and realized I lost my iPhone somewhere. So I had to go find that. So we are finally now with coffee and time to read our Bibles. I'm going to have some coffee. We'll pray. We'll get to God's word. Daddy, that has gravel on it. Mm-hmm. Daniel is saying my phone has gravel on it. And that's true.
All right, you ready to pray? All right, Lord, thank you so much for this day. Thank you that Daniel was so excited and wanted to come in and do devotions this morning. Lord, I pray that you would bless us as we read your word. I pray that you would apply these words to our hearts in Jesus' name, amen. Okay, Proverbs chapter 26, the first seven verses, okay? Here we go. Proverbs 26, the first seven verses.
Let's flip the page, there we go. as snow in the summer and rain in harvest. So honor is not fitting for a fool. When the combines are out there working, do they want it to start raining? Nope, nope. They need to hear from their wives on the phone to look on the weather. They need to hear from their wives to look on the phone for the weather? Well yeah, but would it stop the combines from working? Yeah, that would stop because if the car got wet, they couldn't go outside because the tractors would sink.
That's right. Like our school bus. That's right, like our school bus sunk in the mud too. What about when you're at the pool in the summertime and you're having fun, would you want it to start snowing? Yeah. No, you don't want it to snow. No, I would. No, you don't want it to snow in the summer. Yes, I would want it to snow. We could play around in the snow. Well, no, they'd shut down the pool. Yeah. It would be that the pool would be closed.
Whenever we say, oh, we're going to go to the pool, and then it's too cold and it's closed, you're always very, are you happy or sad? Sad. And if it's closed, then the pool gets ice Yeah, yeah So you don't want to snow in the summer and you don't want to rain in the harvest.
So honor is So honor is not fitting for a fool you don't want to give a fool honor do you? Okay The windshield's off. So if somebody was a fool, would you want to say, oh, you're such a smart person. Here, let's give you an award. No, you don't want to do that. All right, ready? Let's do the next one. Like a flitting sparrow, and like a flying swallow, so a curse without cause shall go alight. So that's saying people. Like a light bulb. So that's like somebody saying something sharp to you. It's like fast. Oh, you know what's fast? An ATV and a motorcycle and an arrow. Let's keep reading, okay? Okay, let's not play, let's read. Okay, you ready? It's fun, but let's read. Here we go, verse three.
A whip for the horse. A bridle. A bridle for the donkey. So you use a whip for a horse, right? To tell him where to go. A bridle for a donkey. So you put in their mouths and you turn them one way or another and then you know what else? A rod for the fool's back.
Yep, like this. In the Navy, remember when they had those big... Oh, when I was telling you about them caning people? Yeah. Yeah, that's in a country called Singapore. Yeah, and the time when you told me about those spiky things and they took those big things and... Well, no, they didn't use awls on people, but hey, let's keep reading, okay? Yeah.
Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like him. Have I had to tell you that before? Don't answer a fool according to his folly? Don't answer like Nathan saying that. So if Nathan is being foolish, should you answer him with foolishness? No, because then you're acting like a fool.
Okay, let's keep going. Verse 5. Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes. This is just essentially saying, don't worry yourself with giving big, huge answers. Just walk away. Verse 6, he who sends a message by the hand of a fool cuts off his own feet and drinks violence. Do you want to give a fool a message to deliver? Do you think they'll deliver it well? No. No. Verse 7, last verse, ready?
Like the legs of the lame that hang limp is a proverb in the mouth of fools. So let me ask you, if you had legs that didn't run and I told you to run a marathon, would it go well? Maybe it would because I could walk with my hands. Yeah, but would your legs do anything good? Nope.
You know what else doesn't do you any good? If you give a fool a proverb, will they listen to it? Will they live by it? So what do you think you should do with these proverbs? Should you be like a man with limp legs? Or should you be a wise man? A wise man. And how do you get wisdom? From other people like Mr. Turner. Okay, so you get it from other people, that's true. But what is the beginning of wisdom?
You know who. You tell me. God. God, that's right. Let's pray. Lord, we pray that we would listen to your wisdom and that we would follow it. We pray that you would watch over us and bless us in Jesus' name. Amen. Well, may you fear the Lord. May you walk in his ways. May you not be like the fool. but may you fear the Lord.
