47 And while He was still speaking, behold, a multitude; and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them and drew near to Jesus to kiss Him. 48 But Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”
49 When those around Him saw what was going to happen, they said to Him, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?” 50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear.
51 But Jesus answered and said, “Permit even this.” And He touched his ear and healed him.
52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and the elders who had come to Him, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs? 53 When I was with you daily in the temple, you did not try to seize Me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”
Peter Denies Christ

54 Having arrested Him, they led Him and brought Him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed at a distance. 55 Now when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them. 56 And a certain servant girl, seeing him as he sat by the fire, looked intently at him and said, “This man was also with Him.”
57 But he denied Him, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.”
58 And after a little while another saw him and said, “You also are of them.”
But Peter said, “Man, I am not!”
59 Then after about an hour had passed, another confidently affirmed, saying, “Surely this fellow also was with Him, for he is a Galilean.”
60 But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying!”
Immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” 62 So Peter went out and wept bitterly.

chapter 22 beginning at verse i think we have what verse 47 verse 47 let's pray have some let's pray have some coffee and get into god's word lord we thank you so much for this day we pray that you would let us understand your word understand the depths of it and that you would let us receive these things in our hearts and believe them practice some in our lives in jesus name amen well if this verse 52 and 53. see in this first section judas is betraying jesus judas is one of jesus's closest friends one of the twelve he was the treasurer of judas or jesus's group jesus was with judas judas had gone out and he had preached the gospel and yet here judas was betraying jesus and betraying him with the intimacy of a kiss of a friendly greeting a way to say to one of your friends hello but in all reality he is leading a mob to kill he's leading a mob to arrest jesus and jesus looks at him and says whoa hold on what am i a thief you come out here to arrest a robber i was with you come on guys i was in the temple in front of everyone because they're a bunch of cowards you come out here at night trying to trying to capture me like i'm some type of lawless person and someone picks up a sword they try to cut off someone's ear they try to take the kingdom by force and jesus well hold on that's not how this is going to happen jesus is going to be led as king in a very different way than they were expecting and then we find even after they arrest jesus they take him to the high priest's house there we find peter doing exactly what jesus had told him he was going to do verse 61 is so striking to me verse 61 when jesus or when peter has just denied jesus says and the lord looked at peter not jesus not the son of man but here and the lord turned and he looked at peter you can imagine the look in jesus's eyes as his most ardent follower had just betrayed him exactly like jesus had told him he would peter had denied jesus three times i'm not one of them i haven't been with them they even say your accent gives you away surely you're one of those galileans if you've ever met anybody from boston you know right away that's where they're from or if you've met someone from the south when they start talking with their southern drawl and y'all and you go whoa hold on i know where you're from they know where he's from and yet he still denies jesus jesus is alone what are we called to do in response to this do we see the cost of jesus's death do we have hearts filled with joy that jesus would would endure all of his people abandoning him that he might pay the price alone as our king as our savior as our atonement to redeem us let's pray father we thank you so much for this day and we thank you for jesus christ who is willing to endure the deepest of darkness the worst of sorrows that he might be acquainted with grief that we might have life in his name we pray amen well may you go about knowing the deep love of jesus christ today bye [Music] [Music] so you
