Christ Gives the Parable of the Ten Minas
11 Now as they heard these things, He spoke another parable, because He was near Jerusalem and because they thought the kingdom of God would appear immediately. 12 Therefore He said: “A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return. 13 So he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Do business till I come.’ 14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We will not have this man to reign over us.’
15 “And so it was that when he returned, having received the kingdom, he then commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. 16 Then came the first, saying, ‘Master, your mina has earned ten minas.’ 17 And he said to him, ‘Well done, good servant; because you were faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities.’ 18 And the second came, saying, ‘Master, your mina has earned five minas.’ 19 Likewise he said to him, ‘You also be over five cities.’
20 “Then another came, saying, ‘Master, here is your mina, which I have kept put away in a handkerchief. 21 For I feared you, because you are an austere man. You collect what you did not deposit, and reap what you did not sow.’ 22 And he said to him, ‘Out of your own mouth I will judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I was an austere man, collecting what I did not deposit and reaping what I did not sow. 23 Why then did you not put my money in the bank, that at my coming I might have collected it with interest?’
24 “And he said to those who stood by, ‘Take the mina from him, and give it to him who has ten minas.’ 25 (But they said to him, ‘Master, he has ten minas.’) 26 ‘For I say to you, that to everyone who has will be given; and from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. 27 But bring here those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, and slay them before me.’ ”

[Music] so hey hey welcome to coffee and devotions this monday morning this where every weekday morning at 9 00 a.m and on the weekends when i get a spare second from my kids you and i we get together we have some coffee we get into god's word and we grow in our love for the lord together and this year 2020 we'll make it through all the gospels well this morning we are at luke chapter 19 verses 18 through 20 or 11 through 27 i just want to show you guys something real quick is a big encouragement it is the middle of october and i am amazed how far you all have made it through if you're one of those who have been watching this and following along and participating for a while you have done amazing just look at this calendar this is where we were at the very beginning of the year and this is all that you have worked through i mean you have done an incredible job working through the gospels we are almost done with the book of luke we'll be done with the book of luke right at the beginning of november and then we'll go through the book of john so i'm really excited how far we've gotten and how far you've done so why don't we go ahead and jump into today's verse luke chapter 19 verses 11 through 27 now as they heard these things he spoke another parable because he was near jerusalem and because they taught the kingdom of god because i thought the kingdom of god would appear and we thank you for your word we thank you for telling us the truth we pray father that you would bring our lives into conformity with that truth in jesus name amen well we need to ask ourselves a what is about be what is the best verse to summarize this and see what are we called to do in response to these words so hey what is this about well if i was to write a one-sentence summary of my bible i would say how things really are in the kingdom of god how things really are in the kingdom of god what would you write let me know down in the comments whether you're on youtube or facebook or on the website how would you how would you summarize this section in in one sentence well let's go ahead and and talk about what's going on here real quick you know they're they're going up to jerusalem they're thinking yeah jesus right we're going up to jerusalem it's going to be his triumph the king is coming he's going to overthrow the the romans the kingdom of god is going to come here on earth as it is in heaven just like we've been praying our king our messiah our anointed son of david the son of man is going to sit on the throne it doesn't happen that way instead jesus gives them a parable right jesus gives him a parable that i'm i'm sure if you were one of the disciples at this time you might scratch your head about a little bit because you didn't quite understand what was going on until the holy spirit would reveal it to them later what does he say right he says that uh here he goes he spoke another parable he talks about a nobleman who goes away into a far country right goes away into a far country to go receive a kingdom it's his he owns it but yet he needs to receive it so he's going to depart for a while and then there's different people who are responding in different ways in this nobleman's absence now jesus is talking about himself and this is a parable about the kingdom of god and jesus christ himself being the king of that kingdom of god see they didn't understand it do you remember saturday's passage where we saw that they didn't understand what jesus was saying when he was talking about having to go up to jerusalem and to be mocked and spat upon and killed and yet he would rise again on the third day or do we if we finish the book of luke when we get there you're gonna see they didn't understand and they were sad why is jesus leaving us where is he going they look up into heaven and even the angels have to tell them why are you looking up into heaven right they didn't understand what was going on but jesus had to go he had to ascend up into heaven and sit down at the right hand of god the father almighty and there receive his kingdom but the king is going to return in the meantime there are going to be those who will reject jesus christ as their king right we don't want this one to rule over thus there are going to be some who the son is going to wither away that plant there are going to be others who the cares of this world will soak or will will suck away the life from their desire for the kingdom there will be those who will stumble over jesus christ and they won't want jesus to be their ruler that's this happens today i was just talking to someone who when they found out certain things were in the bible certain things other people had tried to explain away or deny and i just brought the bible and said here's what god's word says here's what the kingdom of jesus is like i said i don't want it sadly that person is going to be judged because they don't want jesus i mean that's that's a sad thing here at the end of of this whole parable but bring here those enemies of mine who did not want me to reign over them and slay them before me i mean her heart should break about this our hearts should break there are those who do not want jesus christ to reign over them but they don't realize that it is his kingdom already that they're just denying the inevitable and someday the day of judgment is going to come it's hard so we should plead with others that they might not make such a foolish claim but for those of us who do recognize it jesus christ right i think there's two different examples here that we have for us the first example being the one who who has ten meanings may god gives him talents god gives him him abilities and and he goes out and even though he only has a little bit he labors and he and he tries to do those i think of that christian who doesn't think of themselves as the smartest christian doesn't think of themselves as a leader in the church and yet every day they're reading their bibles and every day they're they're praying that god's kingdom would come and they try to shower their children with the love of jesus and tell their grandchildren about about jesus and they try to pass on that faith to generations i wonder how many people in the church who we think are small how many widows in the church who have prayed in their loneliness for god's kingdom to expand and grow how many of those people are going to be given 10 cities and yet others yet others show that they don't actually have a love for god they squandered the talents they squandered the blessings and they showed their hardness of heart towards god and what they did have god would take away what are you doing with what god has given you are you looking to pray for others can you care for others what has he given you has he given you a heart to pray pray and pray and pray has he given you a heart to make meals for people who are hurting in the church who are grieving in the church make meals and give it to them has he given you a heart of generosity to give to the work of the lord are you doing so generously has he given you a position in the church of leadership or of service whether you're a deacon with that lead with a position of service or you are ruling your teaching elder with that position of leadership in the church are you stewarding the talents of god well right this is a hard thing for my life right now what this is a hard thing for me how do i use my time every day am i using it just to give myself a big head by being in my office reading or am i doing that so that i can better teach write doctrine am i learning the languages of the scriptures because i want to delve into the depths of god's word so i can give the pure and unadulterated truth or am i wasting my time away on facebook how do we use our time how do we redeem the time for the days or evil how are you using the talents that god is giving you let me know feel free to shoot me a message or write it
