John 7:32–36

hey hey welcome to coffee and devotions this thursday morning november 20 or december 3rd whoa i'm way off here december 3rd that's where every weekday morning at 9 00 a.m and on the weekends before my kids wake up or i get a spare moment from them you and i we get together we have some coffee we get into god's word and we grow in our love for the lord together and this year 2020 we'll make it through all the gospels well this morning we are at john chapter 7 verses 32 through 36 john chapter 7 verses 32-36 hey pat good to see you why don't we go ahead and have some coffee we'll pray and we'll get into god's word let's pray father we thank you so much for this day and we pray lord that you would bless us now as we read it we pray that you would apply these words to our hearts that we helps facebook know that other people should be watching this and that you find it valuable here we go john chapter 7 beginning at verse 32. the pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things concerning him and the pharisees and the chief priests and officers to take him then jesus said to them i shall be with you a little while longer and then i will go to him who sent me you will seek me and not find me and where i am you cannot come then the jews said among themselves where does he intend to go that we shall not find him does he it does he intend to go to the dispersion among the greeks and teach the greeks what is this thing he has said you will seek me and not find me and where i am you cannot come well we need to ask ourselves a what is this about b what's the best verse to summarize this and see what are we called to do in response to this so what is this talking about right the people are wanting to arrest him they're wanting to take him they're willing to seize him and what is jesus saying he says i'm out of here right they're going to try to seize jesus they're going to try to bring him down but where is he going right they think he's going to go maybe he's going to go to tarsus maybe he's going to go to crete maybe he's going to go to alexandria is he going where other people instead of speaking hebrew speak greek right we know that there are lots of greeks all over the place by this time there's even a greek old testament that's translated right so it's been written in hebrew and translated into greeks the 70 translators did that that septuagint has already written we know that there are jewish communities around the mediterranean so they're thinking maybe he's going there but that's not what he's talking about is it no no jesus is going back to his father jesus is going to go to the one from whom he was sent and they don't get this what is jesus talking about this is talking about his resurrection now we we know the conclusion of this story so we know that jesus they're going to try to seize him they're going to try to put him stuff him down in the ground they're going to try to end him but he they're not going to and he's going to ascend up into heaven and he will sit down at the right hand of god the father almighty and he will be given the nations and indeed that has happened so what is this about jesus is saying they can't stop his kingdom that's what i would write in the in the margin of my bible they might try to seize him but they can't stop his kingdom and what would you write in the margin of your bible feel free to let me know down in the comments the best verse what is the best verse to summarize this section in my bible i'm going to grab my pencil and i'm going to go ahead and i highlight verse 33 and 34 right you will you will i shall be with you a little while longer and then i will go to him who sent me you will seek me and not find me and where i am you cannot come i think that's the best two verses or verse and a half that gets at what this is really talking about see calling what are we called to do in response to this text well we're called to believe the entire book of john is written that we might believe in the name of the son of god that we might have everlasting life that we might be like those disciples who immediately left their nets and followed jesus that we might be made new creations do we believe that jesus christ has gone to be with the father and that he sits at his right hand and he rules the nations and that he is still the king he is still the messiah and one day he will come back again to judge the living and the dead do we believe it that's what we're called to do i know it sounds crazy but that's what the gospels are about that jesus came to save sinners like us do we believe it let's pray father we thank you so much for this day and we thank you for your word we thank you that no chief priest or scribe or pharisee could ever put hands upon you and shove you into the ground and keep you there forever no father you have given us a far greater messiah than that one who has conquered even sin and death lord we pray that you would comfort our hearts with this truth and that your spirit might spur us on to believe it more and more deeply every day in jesus name we pray amen well i hope this video is helpful to you if so feel free to hit
