hey hey welcome to coffee and devotions this tuesday morning yeah tuesday morning november 24th it's where every weekday morning at 9 00 a.m and on the weekends before my kids wake up or i get a break from them you and i we get together we get into god's word and we grow in our love for the lord together and this year 2020 we'll make it through all the gospels well today i had to go out and have coffee with one of my friends and that i haven't gotten to see him for a while if you're on you know who you are and uh so we're doing this a little bit later today that's okay why don't we go ahead and pray and we'll get into god's word father we thank you so much for this day and we thank you for the rich blessing it is to come to your word we pray now that as we read your word that you would apply the the the words to our hearts that they would not just be dead words but that they would be living and active sharper than any two edged sword and that you would teach us rebuke us correct us and train them in jesus name amen okay here we go uh we are at john chapter 5 verses 20 through 2 through 25 i should say in this whole section you could really chunk this up a whole bunch of different ways it starts at verse 19 and goes all the way down through verse 46 that's whole one chunk of everything jesus said says so after he heals this man from the theater there's there's a whole lot that he says after that so why don't we go ahead and jump in at verse 25 or 22 and we'll read through verse 35 for the father judges no one but has committed all judgment to the son that all should honor the son just as they honor the father he who does not honor the son does not honor the father who sent him most assuredly i say to you he who hears my word and believes in him who sent me has everlasting life and shall not come into judgment but has passed from death into life most assuredly i say to you the hour is coming and now is when the dead will hear the voice of the son of god and those who hear will live for as a father has life in himself so he has granted the son to have life in himself and has given him authority to execute judgment also because he is the son of man do not marvel at this for the hour is coming in which all who hear all sorts of which all who are in the graves will hear his voice and come forth those who have done good to the resurrection of life and those who have done evil to the resurrection of condemnation i can do i can of myself do nothing as i hear i judge and my judgment is righteous because i do not seek my own will but the will of the father who sent me if i bear witness of myself my witness is not true there is another who bears witness of me and i know that the witness which he witnesses of me is true you have sent to john and he has borne witness to the truth yet i do not receive testimony from man but i say these things that you may be saved he was the burning and shining lamp and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light i'm going to keep going but i have greater witness than john's for the work which the father has given me to finish that very work i do bear witness of me that the father has sent me we need to ask ourselves hey what is this about b what's the best verse to summarize this section and see what are we called to do in response to this there's lots in this passage there's lots to think about we have the resurrection of the dead some unto life and some unto condemnation we have jesus saying that he doesn't do his own will but he does the will of his father there's a promise for you and i here isn't there right whoever believes in him hat will not come into judgment but has passed from death into life there is a spiritual resurrection that has occurred for those who believe in jesus christ so what is this passage about in jesus christ there is no judgment or which maybe it'd be better to say for those who are in jesus christ there is no judgment we can also say that jesus judges because his will is that of the fathers and his authority is that of the fathers he calls himself here the son of man a reference straight back to the book of daniel he is that great messiah he is god incarnate himself what's this about this is jesus asserting his divine authority what's the best verse to summarize this section well hmm i'm going to leave that one up to you again i'd encourage you pull out your bible get a pencil and and an underline a verse that you think best summarizes this section and let me know down in the comments which verse you chose c calling what what are we called to do do we believe in jesus christ do we believe and because we believe pass not from judgment to death but into christ and from death to life do you believe that jesus christ was the son of man is the son of man was sent by his father and has all authority under in heaven and earth given to him do you bow your need to jesus christ and on that last great day when jesus christ comes to judge again the living and the dead will he be your only hope will you be found in christ let's pray father we thank you so much for this day and we pray lord that you would let us love you with all of our hearts that we would believe in you we thank you for the spiritual resurrection we have that you have raised us up in christ and that it is in him that we have freedom from any fear of death lord we
