hey hey welcome to coffee and devotions this monday morning november 23rd this where every weekday morning at 9 00 a.m and on the weekends when i get a spare moment away from these guys you and i we get together we have some coffee we get into god's word we grow in our love for the lord together and this year 2020 we'll make it through all the gospels this morning we're at john chapter 5 verses 19 through 21 why don't we go ahead and have some coffee pray and get into god's word let's pray father we thank you so much for this day we thank you for the joy it is to be in jesus christ we pray now that you would let us know jesus and love him in jesus name amen oh are you tired okay i'm gonna turn this down just a little bit hey david how are you here we go uh john chapter 5 verses 19-21 then jesus had answered and said to them most assuredly i say to you the son can do nothing of himself but what he sees the father do for whatever he does the son also does in like manner for the father loves the son and shows him all things that he himself does and he will show him greater works than these that you may marvel for as the father raises the dead and gives life to them even so the son gives life to whom he will so we need to ask ourselves first a what is this about b what's the best verse to summarize this and c what are we called to do in response to these words right a what is this about well remember that jesus had healed the man by the pool in bethsaida and that the the teachers of law there were were upset with jesus because he had called him his father and they wanted to destroy him why because he had made himself equal with god and jesus picks up on that and expounds it and tells them even more how unified he is with the father and what do we find here the son of man can do nothing of himself nope nope no what does he say he says that he does what his father sees right does jesus do anything of his own no he only does the will of who his father his father that's right he does the will of his father and so what is his father going to do this is the i think what i'm going to say is the best verse of this right for as the father raises the dead and gives them or gives life to them even so the son gives life to all he will it is the son man you are tired this morning it is the father who gives life raises people from the dead and he indeed would raise jesus christ and jesus would likewise raise us right it's the beauty that he is the firstborn of the resurrection but this shows the unity between the father and the son it shows the the unity within the trinity that jesus does the will of his father yes he is equal with his father and yes he does the will of his father what are we called to do in responses what do you think what should we do in response to this do we do you think we should believe that jesus does the will of god yeah it does he does the will of his father doesn't he do you think jesus does anything that would make his father mad [Music] no no right he does everything perfectly and he gives life he gives life to us abundantly i think we're called to believe we're called to believe that jesus gives life let's pray father we thank you so much for this day we pray lord that you would bless us that we would believe in jesus christ that we would follow you with all of our hearts and that we would trust in you and that you would give us life everlasting in jesus name amen well may god bless you today and may he fill you with the joy and peace that comes only through jesus christ bye and say bye bye bye
