hey welcome to coffee and devotions this sunday morning november 22nd this where every weekday morning at 9 00 a.m and on the weekends when i get a spare moment from my kids you and i we get together we have some coffee we get into god's word and we grow in our love for the lord together and this year 2020 we'll make it through all the gospels well this morning we are at john chapter 5 verses 17 through 18. i will go ahead and have some coffee we'll pray and get into god's word let's pray father we thank you so much for this day and we thank you for your word we pray now that as we come to your word and as we read it that you would apply these words to our hearts that we might know that you are alive and well and working in this world in jesus name amen all right here we go john chapter 5 verses 17 and 18 but jesus answered them my father has been working until then and i have been working therefore the jews saw all the more to kill him because he not only broke the sabbath but also said that god was his father making himself equal with god well we need to ask ourselves a what is this about b what's the best first to summarize this and c what are we called to do in response to this so a what is the this about well remember jesus has healed the man that was by the pool of bethsaida and he tells the man pick up your mat and walk and the problem is he does that on the sabbath and the jews are upset with him right and they come and what's what's going on what are you doing right how does jesus answer my father has been working until now and i have been working and god was alive and well god was working on the sabbath god was making people whole and my children are awake but god was making people whole god was healing people god was god was pouring out his love upon upon his people and so now the question was would they believe in jesus christ who is doing the will of his father who is doing his father's work and they didn't believe what does it say that they hated him they tried to kill him even more why because he said god was his father making himself equal with god making himself on the same par as god saying my father is working and i'm working i'm doing his work and they sought to kill him what's the best verse for this well i'm going to underline in my bible verse 17 my father has been working until now and i have been working see calling what are we called to do in response to this do we believe that jesus christ came to do the will of his father do we believe that jesus christ is working today even now on this christian sabbath do we believe that jesus christ can heal can save can bring to life that the father is working now in his people do you believe this is it in your heart well i pray today as you go to worship or you join online somewhere for worship that you find your place in jesus christ that you don't hold him out of the distance that you don't hate him for his words but you see that he is equal with his father and he does his father's work that he is saving sinners like you and like me let's pray father we thank you so much for this day and we thank you for jesus christ our only begotten one the one who has saved us from our sins we thank you for the one who has made us whole we thank you for the work that he did here upon the earth that was finished upon the cross and the work that he is now doing in heaven as our king lord we pray that you would draw us near to him this day and every day of our life in jesus name amen well may god bless you today and may he fill you with the joy and peace that could only be found in jesus christ bye
