Scripture Passage
Christ Prays for His Disciples
6 “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. 7 Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You. 8 For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me.
9 “I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours. 10 And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them. 11 Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are. 12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 13 But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. 18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.
The New King James Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), Jn 17:6–19.

for us in jesus name we pray amen well let's go ahead and jump into god's word today here we go john chapter 17 beginning at verse six jesus's high priestly prayer i have manifested your name to the men whom you have given me out of the world they were yours you gave them to me and they have kept your word now they have known that all things which you have given me are from you for i have given to them the words which you have given to me and they have received them and they have known surely that i came forth from you and they have believed that you sent me i pray for them i do not pray for kept and none of them is lost except the son of perdition that the scripture might be filled but now i come to you and these things i speak in the world that they may have my joy fulfilled in them i have given them your word and the world has hated them because they are not of the world just as i am not of the world i do not pray that you should take them out of the world but that you should keep them from the evil one they are not of the world just as i am not of the world sanctify them by the truth your word is truth as you sent me into the world i have sent them into the world and for their sakes i sanctify myself that they also may be sanctified by the truth what a beautiful section we have for us this morning we need to ask ourselves a what is this about b what is the best verse to summarize this and see what are we called to do in response to these words a what is this about jesus is praying for his disciples with with a type of telephoto lens in on his 12 apostles but beyond that not just for his apostles but also for us and so as jesus is praying to his father he's praying about them being in the world but not of the world and he doesn't want god he doesn't want his father to take them out of the world but he wants them to be guarded from the evil one he wants us to know him that we might be sanctified that we might be made holy and it's amazing what he says what is the means of increasing in sanctification sanctify them by the truth your word is truth what is this section about jesus prays for his disciples to be protected and to grow that's how i would summarize this in my bible jesus prays that his disciples might be protected and that they might grow what's the best verse to summarize this section well i think words are going to have to be a couple that i'm going to underline maybe you've realized that i underlined quite a bit in my bible and that's okay i'm going to underline john 17 17 here sanctify them by your truth your word is truth i'm also going to underline where was it where it says that not to take them out of the world but protect them from the evil one verse 15 i think is a really important verse also this is what 1st john says you know when the apostle writes in 1st john that we are not of the world we are in the world but not of the world we can't have the pride of things of this life i'm getting into sea calling don't worry but maybe you would highlight something else you know there's a lot before this let me ask you what verse do you want to underline or highlight in your bible to get at the heart of this passage let let me know down in the comments lastly c calling what are we called to do in response to this passage what are you called to do as you live this out in your life well you're doing one of them right now aren't you as we come to his word as we open up our bibles as we look at his perfect commandments we don't just hear the words of the spirit we don't just hear the words of of the son but we hear the words of the father himself the father the son and the spirit we hear from god and god's word transforms us changes us we also are reminded of that last petition of the lord's prayer right that we might not come under the dominion of satan but that he might guard us from the evil one we we hear hear jesus praying that prayer do you do you pray to your father that he might protect you or guard you from satan do you go to his word that you might read it and might be nourished in your soul and built up in your faith by it do you go to the word and see jesus christ as the cornerstone of your faith and are you being built upon jesus christ and are you building your house with costly stones are you coming to jesus christ and being and being blessed in your love for the lord let's go ahead and pray now father i pray that you might make these words true for us for lord we are not of this world for if we were of this world the world would love us but father you are such a wonderful god you have called us out of the dominion of darkness and into your marvelous light we pray that we would cling to you and that you might guard us and that we might do the good works which you have prepared in advance that we should walk in though we pray these things in jesus name amen oh may god bless you today may he fix your eyes upon jesus christ and may you walk with confidence and peace in your savior [Music] bye [Music] [Music] so you
