Proverbs 25:1-7

Good morning or good afternoon, evening, wherever you might be. Welcome to Coffee and Devotions. This is where every day we get together. We get into God's Word and we grow in our love for the Lord together. And this year, 2021, we'll make it through all the wisdom literature. Well, haven't even unpacked from Presbyterian yet, but we wanted to do coffee and devotions. Oh, Debra. Everyone can't see Ellie if you're there. That's kind of difficult. How are we going to do this? How about we do this? Everybody got their own mugs. Oh, hey, guys. Who listens to this? Who gave you these mugs? Mrs. Shride. Mrs. Shride. What do you guys want to say to Mrs. Shride for giving them? Thank you, Mrs. Shride. Yeah, that was nice. Thank you, Mrs. Shride.
She says that the kids needed their own mugs for coffee and devotion, so she sent them for them. So why don't we go ahead and have some coffee, we'll pray, and we'll get into God's Word. Well, tea for the kids. Let's pray. Father, we thank you so much for this day, and we thank you for the blessing of family, We thank you for the blessing of being in your word. Thank you, Father, for safe travels for me, getting home. We pray that you would bless this time in your word, that we would be taught by you, in Jesus' name, amen.
All right, so we're at Proverbs chapter 25, the first eight verses. Well, we'll do the first seven verses. All right, these are also Proverbs of Solomon. All right, so whose Proverbs were they? Solomon's, but here's the next part. Which the men of Hezekiah, king of Judah, copied. So the wisdom of Solomon, but Hezekiah, do you guys know who Hezekiah was? No. He was a king. So these are the Proverbs that Hezekiah's men copied.
It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter. Who is the one who conceals things? God. And what's the glory of kings? To search them out. Kings get to find things out. They get to ask questions. They get to inquire of things. They get to learn things. They get to be good judges.
Verse 3. the heavens for height and the earth for depth so the heart of Kings is unsearchable What do you think that's talking about the heart of a king is unsearchable? What do you think do you think that anybody could fully understand a leader's heart Deborah sometimes is it hard for you to know your own heart? Nathan, sometimes do you feel things and you don't know why you feel them? Sometimes is daddy thinking about stuff and mommy's like, I just have no clue what he's thinking about.
Yeah. Do you think that we could ever exhaust the understanding or the thoughts of a ruler? What about gods? You're seeing, like, tactically for eternity and what's going to happen in the eternity. So, you're technically going to be tactically just looking, like, at a thought forever. Do you think that you're, when you're in heaven, do you think you're ever going to get bored of hearing God's thoughts?
No. No. No way. Okay, here we go. Verses 4 and 5. Let's not play with my chair, okay? Verses 4 and 5. Take away the dross from silver, and it will go to the silversmith for jewelry. Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne will be established in righteousness. Okay, so this is talking about a day in the nature. Let me come over here. Let's try to do this without dropping Ellie's teeth.
Okay, so this is a quarter. You guys see the quarter? Now the quarter is made up of different types of metals. And what you could do is you could take this quarter and you could put it inside of a crucible and you could heat it up in a foundry, in a furnace.
And eventually what would happen to the metal? It would melt. And the different types of metal in it, they would come apart. And that's what would happen with coins, with different metals. And so you could get the different types of coin out. And so you could take a coin and you could melt it. You could melt it and eventually get the silver out. And once you got the silver out, then you could take it and you could do something with it. You could make jewelry.
Right? So even though it was worth something, could you make it even more valuable and even more beautiful? Yeah. So that's what this is saying here. Deborah got it for me. That's what it's saying here Take the dross away from silver and it will go to the silversmith for jewelry but you got to take the bad the the kind of the dross is the Other metals that you don't really want and you could eventually get make it into jewelry Well, it's the same thing if you take away the wicked from the king if you take the dross away from a king his throne is going to be established in righteousness and So are there people who might try to come around a king and, you know, make his kingdom less valuable? Yeah.
But if you take the wicked away from a king's throne, then you'll have a righteous kingdom. Is there any wicked in Jesus's kingdom? No. No, God purges all of it out of his kingdom. And then I can go to the church and kick Is the robbers out? Then you can go and you can kick the robbers out? Yeah. Okay, let's do verses 6 and 7. Jesus taught about this. You know what Jesus said? Jesus said, when you go to a wedding feast, you know what you do?
Do you want to take the best seat at a wedding feast? No. Nope, don't take the best seat. Because if the master to the feast comes, what might he say to you? As someone more important has come, you go sit down at the lowest seat. But instead, when you go to a feast, you should take the lowest seat. Because then, what might the king do? Or what might the ruler of the feast do?
You should sit up here. Yeah! Hey, hey, don't sit at such a low seat. Come and sit at a better seat. So is it better to be filled with pride, thinking you're really important? Or is it better to be humble? It's better to be humble. It's better to loathe yourself.
Even Jesus Christ. Did Jesus come with pride or did Jesus come into the world with humility? Did he come and sit amongst the kings or did he come and sit with poor people? Poor people. Did Jesus come to be served or did Jesus come to serve? Come to serve. So can we be humble? Can we serve Jesus? Yeah. Can we love other people? Yes. That's right. Okay, let's go ahead and pray. You guys ready?
Father, we thank you so much that our King came and that before your throne there is no unrighteous, but that you have taken the dross from us. You have cleansed us and you have made us pure. Father, we thank you so much that you would be so mindful of us, the lowest of the kingdom. that us who were sinners have been saved by your grace. And Father, even the dogs get to eat the crumbs from the children's table.
We thank you that you have such kindness towards us. In Jesus' name, amen. Well, may God bless you today. May you enjoy the grace that comes from Jesus Christ alone. May you enjoy Sabbath tomorrow.
