Numbers 28:26-31

Hey, hey, good morning. Good morning. Welcome to coffee and devotions this morning We're looking at numbers chapter 28 verses 26 through 31 the festival of weeks Let's have some coffee. We'll pray and we'll get into God's Word Let's pray Lord we thank you so much for this day What a blessing it is to get to come to you and to read your word Father, we pray that you would please help us to understand your word. We pray that your spirit would be teaching us and that you would work in our hearts in such a way that we would follow after you in Jesus's name. Amen. All right, so we're at Numbers chapter 28. We'll read God's word beginning at verse 26, working through verse 31.
Also, on the day of the firstfruits, when you bring a new grain offering to the Lord at your feasts of weeks, you shall have a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work. You shall present a burnt offering as a sweet aroma to the Lord. Two young bulls, one ram, and seven lambs in their first year, with their grain offering a fine flour mixed with oil, three-tenths of an ephah for each bull, two-tenths for the one ram, and one-tenth for each of the seven lambs, also one kid of the goats to make atonement for you. Be sure they are without blemish. You shall present them with their drink offerings, beside the regular burnt offering with its grain offering."
Well, we need to ask ourselves our three questions. A, what is this about? B, what's the best verse? And C, what are we called to do in response to this? So, A, what is this about? So, this is about the Feast of Weeks. Some of your Bibles may have this lined out something like, are titled the Feast of Harvest, or maybe even some go so far as calling this what is known in Jesus' day, Pentecost. So this is the Feast of Weeks. So a number of weeks following the Passover, what we looked at yesterday, is the Feast of Weeks being the barley harvest. Right? And so this is this bringing of sacrifices to the Lord at the beginning of harvest, recognizing the people, recognizing that it was God, Jehovah, who was in charge or in control, providentially making sure that all of his people would be fed. It was the Lord who was going to care for them and give them their daily bread. So that's what this Feast of Weeks is about. They're getting together, they're making these sacrifices, right? This is a holy convocation, no normal work, two young bulls, one ram, seven lambs, and then one kid goat as an atonement.
Notice again, there's a sin offering mixed in regularly, right? People recognizing, you're our king, we sin, we're not perfect, but you still love us. We still provide for us and there's a way that you have made for us to be right with you. So what's the B best verse to summarize this? Well, in my Bible, I would underline verse 26, right?
Also on that, on the day of the first fruits, When you bring a new grain offering to the Lord at your Feast of Weeks, you shall have a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work. All right, so this is the Feast of Weeks. This is when they're bringing their first fruits to the Lord. So, what about C, calling? This next section, calling. What are we called to do? Where are we seeing Christ? Is there a covenant connection? Well, yes.
God is still the one who provides. It's exactly what Jesus taught in the Sermon on the Mount. Why do you worry about what you will eat or what you will drink or what you will wear? The pagans chase after all these things, but your heavenly Father knows that you need them. The Lord's going to provide all this stuff for us. He takes care of the sparrows. I'm hearing them singing outside my door right now. The Lord knows what the birds need and He feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
But Jesus Christ your Lord knows what you need and will provide for your needs. And if God did not spare his own Son, shall he not with him also freely give us all things? I think our calling is to trust and to have comfort. See, the point of the Festival of Weeks was to give us that same trust. They were to trust in the Lord to provide for their needs. And we also get to trust in the Lord for our needs. We get to come to Him and to know that He is our provider and our protector. He is our providential King who knows everything we need and who loves us and cares for us. I think our calling is to trust Him in the same faithful way.
Let's pray. Father, we thank you that we do not need to sacrifice with the bulls and the goats and all that anymore. Lord, but we have that same heart. Lord, all these things were meant to be types and signs pointing us to who you are and your promises toward us. Lord, we pray that we would be faithfully trusting you. For you are the Lord of the harvest and you care for us.
So Lord, please let us trust you even more in Jesus's name. Amen. Well, may the peace of Christ that surpasses all understanding guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus as you bring to Him your prayers and petitions. For He knows you, He cares for you, and He loves you. I'll see you next time.
