Luke 18:15–17

[Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] do [Music] hey hey welcome to coffee and devotions this thursday afternoon october 8th this where every weekday morning at 9 00 a.m and on the weekends when i get a spare second from my kids you and i we get together we have a cup of coffee we get into god's word and we grow in our love for the lord together thanks for joining me today we're a little bit off schedule because of some things that needed to happen this morning but this morning this afternoon we're going to go ahead and pick up at luke chapter 18 beginning at verse 15. just three verses a day let's jump in there then they also brought infants to him that he might touch them but when the disciples saw it they rebuked them but jesus called them to him and said let the little children come to me and do not forbid them for of such is the kingdom of god assuredly i say to you whoever does not receive the kingdom of god as a little child will by no means enter it let's go ahead and pray lord we thank you for this day father we thank you for receiving us and for caring for us lord we pray that we would have child-like faith we pray that we would be blessed by being in your word this morning in jesus name amen well we need to ask ourselves quickly a what is this about b what's the best verse to summarize this passage and see what are we called to do in response to this how would you summarize this if you just had to write a little one sentence summary in your bible what would you write well i would say jesus loves even the smallest of infants maybe you would write something else i'm not sure that exactly gets the sense of what this is talking about but we see what's happening people are longing to come to jesus people are desiring to come to jesus and they're bringing even their infant children their babes this is not just a general word you know technon for child but this is their infants they're carrying them in their arms and they just want jesus just to touch the baby they want to see that jesus's love would at least just reach to this child of theirs and what do the disciples do you know adult only club not allowed in here you know this is this is 13 years and over no no jesus longs is going to bless the babies jesus is going to bless these infant children indeed jesus gives them this paradox right this is not just for the kingdom of god is not just for mature adults but the kingdom of god is even for infants such as these and you need to become like them do we have childlike faith in my bible i'm going to go ahead and underline so the second half of verse 16 and verse 17. and so we need to ask ourselves what are we called to do in response to these words well do you trust in jesus christ with all your heart are you bringing your children to jesus christ do you take your children to the lord's throne of grace and prayer do you take your children to the lord's throne as you plead with them do you take your children to go and hear of jesus christ do you take your children to be baptized by into the name of jesus christ to take your children and teach them to love jesus christ and and as you see the wonder in their eyes as they think about jesus christ as they learn about jesus christ does it stir up in your own heart how amazing this love is that god would pour out on us i love teaching little kids about the love of jesus and and they'll say really he loves us like that do we come and go really god you love us like that i can't do anything and yet you still love me you had to jesus has to bring us to the father do we love jesus christ and have that type of faith let's pray father we thank you so much for your care for the smallest of children we pray that we would have childlike faith we pray that we would bring our own children our grandchildren our great-grandchildren into lord into your presence in prayer and into your into your congregation that they might hear of the great love of jesus in his name we pray amen well may the lord bless you today and give you peace bye you
