Christ Heals the Blind Man
9 Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. 2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
3 Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him. 4 I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
6 When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. 7 And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing.
8 Therefore the neighbors and those who previously had seen that he was blind said, “Is not this he who sat and begged?”
9 Some said, “This is he.” Others said, “He is like him.”
He said, “I am he.”
10 Therefore they said to him, “How were your eyes opened?”
11 He answered and said, “A Man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed, and I received sight.”
12 Then they said to him, “Where is He?”
He said, “I do not know.”
13 They brought him who formerly was blind to the Pharisees. 14 Now it was a Sabbath when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes. 15 Then the Pharisees also asked him again how he had received his sight. He said to them, “He put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and I see.”
16 Therefore some of the Pharisees said, “This Man is not from God, because He does not keep the Sabbath.”
Others said, “How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” And there was a division among them.
17 They said to the blind man again, “What do you say about Him because He opened your eyes?”
He said, “He is a prophet.”
18 But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind and received his sight, until they called the parents of him who had received his sight. 19 And they asked them, saying, “Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then does he now see?”
20 His parents answered them and said, “We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind; 21 but by what means he now sees we do not know, or who opened his eyes we do not know. He is of age; ask him. He will speak for himself.” 22 His parents said these things because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had agreed already that if anyone confessed that He was Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue. 23 Therefore his parents said, “He is of age; ask him.”
24 So they again called the man who was blind, and said to him, “Give God the glory! We know that this Man is a sinner.”
25 He answered and said, “Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.”
26 Then they said to him again, “What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?”
27 He answered them, “I told you already, and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become His disciples?”
28 Then they reviled him and said, “You are His disciple, but we are Moses’ disciples. 29 We know that God spoke to Moses; as for this fellow, we do not know where He is from.”
30 The man answered and said to them, “Why, this is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where He is from; yet He has opened my eyes! 31 Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him. 32 Since the world began it has been unheard of that anyone opened the eyes of one who was born blind. 33 If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing.”
34 They answered and said to him, “You were completely born in sins, and are you teaching us?” And they cast him out.
35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had found him, He said to him, “Do you believe in the Son of God?”
36 He answered and said, “Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?”
37 And Jesus said to him, “You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you.”
38 Then he said, “Lord, I believe!” And he worshiped Him.
39 And Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.”
40 Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, “Are we blind also?”
41 Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.
“I Am the Good Shepherd”
10 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. 2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5 Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” 6 Jesus used this illustration, but they did not understand the things which He spoke to them.
7 Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. 9 I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. 12 But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. 13 The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. 15 As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. 16 And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.
17 “Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. 18 No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.”
19 Therefore there was a division again among the Jews because of these sayings. 20 And many of them said, “He has a demon and is mad. Why do you listen to Him?”
21 Others said, “These are not the words of one who has a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?”

[Music] hey hey welcome to coffee and devotions this monday morning this is where every weekday morning at 9 00 a.m and on the weekends when i get a spare moment for my kids you and i we get together we have some coffee we get into god's word and we grow in our love for the lord together and this year 2020 we'll make it through all the gospels well we have a big chunk of scripture to bite off today so why don't we head and why don't we go ahead and get some coffee pray and get into god's word let's pray father we thank you so much for this day we pray that our eyes might be lifted up unto jesus christ that you might lift up our hearts to him let us understand what you have for us today and let us believe it in jesus name amen well i'm going to encourage you to buckle up and get ready because we have a lot to look at so let's go ahead and jump into god's word today we have a whole chapter and a half to read we are at the last brent you're almost done with the book of john so let's go ahead and read today now as jesus passed by he saw a man who was blind from birth and his disciples asked him saying rabbi who sinned this man or his parents that he was born blind jesus answered these two in one chunk that's why we have a whole chapter and a half to look at what is this about the blind seeing and the believing made alive right we have this blind man in chapter nine who's given sight and he's amazed and the and the pharisees are determined to just to to reject jesus even though this man who is blind from birth gives testimony that it was jesus and why are they upset with jesus because he healed him on the sabbath day and they call him incinerator who would who would do work on the sabbath jesus has just made this man well he's made he's given this this man who was blind from the time he was a little child imagine stumbling around crawling around with your eyes dark and never being able to see anything and jesus makes a little clay and he applies it to his eyes and as he rubs it into his eyes he opens his eyes and for the first time when he looks up he sees jesus's face he looks into the face of the great eye ham he goes and he washes in the pool of siloam and he's made clean he becomes a follower of jesus christ he's immediately testifying to jesus christ the pharisees even call his parents in and they're like we don't know who made him whole he's of age go talk to him and he's and he knows the repercussions if he follows jesus they're going to kick him out of the synagogue he's going to be disowned not allowed to see his family not allowed to to partake and and all the rituals of a good jewish person's life and yet he still follows jesus right what is he saying what does he say to them at the very end of verse 41 if if you were blind you would see and have no sin but now you say we see therefore your sin remains right their sin is still there they're the blind ones and then we come to chapter 10 the first 21 verses and jesus is the good shepherd jesus is the one who lays down his life for his sheep jesus is the one who knows his sheep by name you are not just known by god i'm gonna switch over here and and just bear with me sermonizing just a minute right you are not just known as a group but jesus knows you by name he has called you by name he has loved you by name and he has given you life if you believe in him see hirelings those people who are just employees they'll run away when the wolves come but jesus jesus is the gate jesus is the door it is only by jesus christ that we have eternal life and it is in jesus christ that we have abundant life that he takes us to those green pastures he is the good shepherd of psalm 23 the lord is my shepherd i shall not want he maketh me to lie down in green pastures it is jesus who brings us to those green pastures will you cling to jesus today will you hope in jesus christ will you find life in jesus christ it is jesus who will make you whole it was jesus who will make you well it is jesus who is our peace who lays down his life of his own will doing the desires of his father that he might give you life will you be like that blind man who trusts in jesus no matter what let's pray father we thank you so much for this day and we thank you for your word we thank you that you can remove the scales of the eyes of our hearts that you can let us see father we pray that we might believe that we might know that we might have an everlasting love thank you for giving us our good shepherd it's in his name we pray amen we pray that god blesses you the rest of this day and that you walk in the joy and in the peace of jesus christ bye [Music] you
