John 18:1–11

hey hey welcome to coffee and devotions this what is today wednesday morning that's right it's wednesday morning this is where every weekday morning at 9 a.m and on the weekends before these guys wake up or i get a spare moment from them you and i we get together we get into god's word and we grow in our love for the lord together and this year 2020 we'll make it through all the gospels well if you didn't see yesterday's video feel free to look at that and let us know what we should be looking at or what we should be going together with the next year oh did you get some tea up your nose why don't we go ahead and pray we'll get to god's word father we thank you so much for this day we thank you for your word we pray that you would bless us now as we read and that you apply these things to our hearts in jesus name amen all right i'm gonna get some coffee you guys got your teeth don't want to spill it on anyone oh it's too hot okay well you can drink it as we go okay here we go john chapter 18 the verse first 11 verses deborah can you start go ahead and speak love okay i'll go ahead and start when jesus had spoken these words he went out with his disciples over the brook kidron where there was a garden which he and his disciples entered go ahead nathan in judas who betrayed him also near the place for jesus often met there with his disciples then he judas having received [Music] he attachments of troops of officers from the chief priests and pharisees or anton's torches and weapons jesus therefore owing all things that would come upon and went forward and said to them who are you seeking okay deborah can you read deborah can you read verses five and six um they answered to him jesus of nazareth and jesus said to them i am he and who are you seeking they said jesus jesus answered i have told you that i am he therefore if you seek me let these go their way that they saying might that the saying might be fulfilled which he spoke of those whom you gave me i have lost none nathan can you finish up at 10 and 11. this simon peter having drew it and struck the high priestess of it and cut off his right ear so that same servant's name was that's a hard one right malcus so jesus said to peter put your sword and sword into the sheath shall i not drink the cup which my father has given me okay so we need to ask ourselves a what is this about b what is the and c what are we called to do in response to this okay so first a what is this about deborah what do you think this passage is about jesus getting arrested oh you would say jesus getting arrested good daniel what would you say this is about uh did he eat us getting killed oh you think this is about jesus going to get killed okay what about you nathan i think it's um them come to get jesus don't come to get jesus good good so jesus being betrayed jesus or don't come to arrest jesus and jesus on his way to be killed that's right this is the passage in which judas is about to betray jesus there are chief the the guards from the chief priests and the pharisees come and notice how they come do they come during the day or during the night during the night and how are they able to see their way that's right flaming torches and lanterns right and what is what does peter do when he comes he cuts off the police [Music] cuts off his ear and what is what does jesus say does jesus want him to start a war no no put your sword back in the sheath right because what does he say at the end put your short in your in your seat sheath shall i not drink the cup which my father has given me is jesus willing to go to the cross yes yes yeah he's willing to why do you think jesus why do you think jesus wants to go to the cross because if he didn't go to the class there would be no reason he was even alive yeah you're right so if jesus didn't go to the cross there would have been no reason why he was even alive he was born to die for who foreign for us for us for sinners right for all sorts of people all over the world that's right he came to save sinners uh in the margin of my bible i think that's what i would underline verse 11 put your sword into the sheath shall i not drink the cup which my father has given me maybe you would underline something else would you underline when jesus says that i am he uh notice that the he is italicized there it's actually ego a me i am and the people fall to the ground they're amazed at this well we need to ask ourselves c calling what are we called to do in response to this what do you think what what do you think this should do in your life or in your heart so you think you should serve okay what about you deborah anything that you think you're called to do okay you think serve too i think it's belief i think oh that was yucky i think we can believe in jesus christ the one who came to drink the cup of wrath for you and for me why don't we go ahead and pray this morning oh you want to say what you're called to do i believe in god oh you think you're called to believe in god good why don't we go ahead and pray this morning father we thank you so much for this day we thank you for the rich blessing it is to get to hear of who jesus is and the great work he has done for us father please teach us please let us believe please let us follow after jesus christ in his name we pray amen well lord bless you today and give you
