Scripture Passage
Christ Answers Judas
22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?”
23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.
25 “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. 28 You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I.
29 “And now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe. 30 I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me. 31 But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, so I do. Arise, let us go from here.
The Relationship of Believers to Christ
15 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
9 “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.
11 “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.

for your word we pray now that we would have a peace that surpasses all understanding as we fix our eyes upon jesus christ we pray that you might let us abide in him and that you would work in us the good work which you have prepared in advance that we would do in jesus name amen well why don't we go ahead and look over at our passage right now so here we go john chapter 14 verses 22 through chapter 15 verse 11. real quick if this or videos you'd like to see and would like others to see hit that like button or subscribe button send it to others let facebook and youtube know that this is valuable to you here we go a judas not iscariot said to him lord how is it that you will manifest yourself to us and not to the world jesus answered and said to him if anyone loves me he will keep my word and my father will love him and he will come into him and make our home with him he will he who does not love me does not keep my words and the word which you hear is not mine but the fathers who sent me these things i have spoken to you while being present with you but the helper the holy spirit whom the father will send in my name he will teach you all things and bring to you remembrance all things that i said to you peace i live i leave with you my peace i give to you not as the world gives do i give to you let not your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid you have heard me say to you i am going away and coming back to you if you loved me you would rejoice because i said i am going to my father for my father is greater than i and now i have told you before it comes that when it does come to pass you may believe i will no longer talk with you much for the ruler of this world is coming and he has nothing in me but that the world may know that i love the father and as the father gave me commandment so i do arise let us go from here well why don't we go ahead and stop and we'll do our a section then we'll get into the next part a what is this about well this section is about what judas is asking him how is it that you will manifest yourself to us and not to the world right how are we going to see but not everyone's going to see you and jesus tells them i'm going to give you the holy spirit what is this about jesus is promising the holy spirit the third person of the trinity now i need to take a step back and apologize to you yesterday i spoke in error yesterday after i was it was almost immediately after it came out of my mouth i realized i had said something along the lines of that jesus and the father are one or the same in person and in being and that's not right uh classical christian orthodox theology teaches that that all three persons of the godhead are one in being three in person and here we see this distinction that the father is mentioned the son is mentioned and the holy spirit is mentioned even though they are one in being and so here he is promising to them that he's going to send a helper he's going to send to them the holy spirit and the spirit is going to give them a peace a peace that is going to calm their hearts and so they need not be troubled actually they should be happy because jesus is going to the father and so what is this about jesus is going but he's promising he's not going to leave them as orphans he's going to give them the holy spirit well this next part verses 15 or chapter 15 the first 11 verses i am the true vine and my father is the vine dresser every branch in me that does not bear good fruit he takes away and every branch that bears fruit he prunes that it may bear more fruit you are already clean because the word which i have spoken to you abide in me and i in you as a branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine neither can you unless you abide in me i am the vine you are the branches he who abides in me and i in him bears much fruit for without me you can do nothing if anyone does not abide in me he is cast out as a branch and is withered and they gather them and throw them into the fire and they are burned if you abide in me and my words abide in you you will ask what ye desire and it shall be done for you by this my father is glorified that you bear much fruit so you will be my disciples as the father loved me i also have loved you abide in my love if you keep my commandments you will abide in my love just as i have kept my father's commandments and abide in his love these things i have spoken to you that my joy may remain in you and that your joy may be full well what is this next section about this next section is about abiding in jesus remaining in jesus this beautiful imagery of i am the vine you are the branches if we abide in him will bear much fruit and what does that fruit look like it looks like love love for the father but also love for one another and so what is this about in the margin of my bible i would say jesus is the vine and we need to be engrafted and abiding in jesus and so we can ask ourselves what's the best verse for this two sections well i think in the first section i'm going to highlight verse 27. that's what i'm going to highlight in my bible as the best verse for there maybe you would highlight something else maybe you would highlight verse 26 and said where he promises the helper that's fine and then verse 15 or chapter 15 sorry i'm going to underline or highlight verse for abide in me and i in you as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine neither can you unless you abide in me so lastly we need to ask ourselves see calling what are we called to do in response to these words how do we make these words not just live on a screen but live in our lives or do we believe in jesus christ and as we believe in jesus christ as we trust in jesus christ do we look to him for the good works that they might flow through us do we love jesus christ and as a result have that love then pour it out as we love others do we love jesus christ and believe that he was given us his holy spirit and do you walk in peace israel is your life marked by anxiety and worry and fear or do you have a peace from god that surpasses all understanding as you do the works of jesus christ well i pray that you have a great day today and that the lord might take these words and apply them to your heart bye [Music] you
