John 1:29-42

hey hey welcome to coffee and devotions this friday morning this where every weekday morning at 9 00 a.m and on the weekends when i get a spare moment away from these guys you and i we get together we get into god's word and we grow in our love for the lord together and this year 2020 we'll make it through all the gospels well this morning we are at luke sorry john chapter one i keep doing that too john chapter one hey lynn good to see you john chapter one we'll read verses 29 through uh 29 through 30 42 i think that's where we're supposed to be we'll find out john chapter one beginning at verse 19. let's go ahead and read oh no we're not gonna do that we're gonna have some coffee we're gonna have coffee we're gonna pray and then we're gonna read let's pray father we thank you so much for this day and we thank you for your word we pray that as we read your word that your spirit would be working in us that we would hear and understand and believe in jesus name amen you guys ready okay the next day john saw jesus coming towards him and said behold the lamb of god who takes away the sin of the world this is he of whom i said after me comes a man who is preferred before me for he was before me i did not know him but that he should be revealed to israel therefore i came baptizing with water and john bore witness saying i saw the spirit descending from heaven like a dove and he remained upon him i did not know him but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me upon whom you see the spirit descending and remaining on him this is he who baptizes with the holy spirit and i have seen and testified that this is the son of god again the next day john stood with two of his disciples and looking at jesus as he walked he said behold the lamb of god the two disciples heard him speak and they followed jesus then jesus turned and seeing them following said to them what what do you seek they said to him rabbi which is to say when translated teacher where are you staying he said to them come and see they came and saw and he was staying where he was staying and remained with him that day now it was about the tenth hour one of the two who had heard john speak and followed him was andrew simon peter's brother he first found his own brother simon and said to him we have found the messiah which is translated the christ and he brought him to jesus now when jesus looked at him he said you are simon the son of judah you shall be called cephas which is translated a stone hello mr giraffe well we need to ask ourselves a what is this about b what is the best verse and c what are we called to do i know what are we called to do in response to this passage so first a what is this about what is john called jesus guys the lamb of god look look see the lamb of god and what is some of what is some of uh jesus or what does some of john's disciples do after they hear john say that do they keep following john who do they follow after that jesus yeah they start following jesus and what does john see when he baptizes jesus he sees something come down a duck yeah the the dove the holy spirit descending upon upon uh jesus and it's a sign that god had promised him that's right and when he and when simon or when uh andrew comes and he finds jesus after he hears john what does he do after that he runs and he tells who that's right he runs and he tells simon his brother that's right he runs and he tells simon his brother and he tells them they have found the christ what does that mean the christ oh that's a big question what jesus is called jesus christ but what does christ mean well it means that he's the king we have found the king we found the anointed one of god right and so jesus changes his name he changes his name from simon to cephas and what does cephus mean stone stone a rock that's right in greek that's called petros that's why we call him peter right so his his original hebrew name was simon and they changed his name to peter or cephas okay well i think the best verse in my bible that i'm going to underline is what john says behold the lamb of god he says that twice doesn't he so he says that in verse 29 behold the lamb of god who takes away the sins of the world and he also says that in verse 35 behold the lamb of god well we need to ask ourselves see calling what are we called to do in response to these words what what do you guys think we should do in response to this what do you think debra maybe can we be like andrew what did andrew do he followed yeah he followed but what else did he do nathan he told other he told other people about jesus didn't he oh i don't like giraffes on my head during coffee and devotions right he does but can we tell other people about jesus that's right that's right you and i we can tell other people about jesus we can be we can be like andrew can't we yeah do we believe that he is the son of god the lamb of god who takes away the sins of the world well let me know uh as as you've seen things have changed up a little bit we're trying to adjust our family schedule it means on wednesdays and fridays these little guys are going to be joining us for some coffee and devotions give me a
