Got Word with us. So very excited to have Nathan with us this morning. He, he's an early riser. And it's, well, it's he woke up at about 545 Almost six Is that about right?
Yeah. And I was in my office reading and doing devotions and such and he said, Dad, can I do coffee and devotion so he's with us even made his own tea to drink with us. So good morning. Welcome to Coffee and devotions is where everyday you and I we get together. We have a little bit of coffee or tea. We get into God's word and we grow in our love for the Lord together. And this year, Lord willing, we'll make it from the book of Acts to the book of Philemon. Let's have some coffee, or tea. We'll pray and we'll get into God's Word. Let's pray. Father, we thank you so much for this day. We thank You for Your Word. And Father, we pray now that as we read your word that you would teach us, we pray that we would read it and understand it, and that your Holy Spirit would apply it to our lives in Jesus's name, Amen. Okay, and grab this for me just so it doesn't get spooked. All right. So Galatians chapter three, beginning of verse six. Nathan, would you like to read the first part or the second part? The first part, okay, I'm gonna move this mic a little bit so people can actually hear you Okay. All right, go ahead.
For you, all, all sons of God, feel safe and close Jesus. For as many of you, as were baptized into Christ, have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek. There is neither slave nor free. There is neither male or female. For you all one inch close teachers and as you are close to you, Abraham, according
to the verses one through seven of the second chapter. Now I say that the air as long as he has a child does not differ at all from a slave, though he is masterful, but he's under guardians and stewardship until the appointed until the time appointed by the father. Even so we when we were children, in bondage under the elements of the world. But when the fullness of time had come, Christ sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who are under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons God has sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying out Abba, Father. Therefore, you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son than an heir of God, through Christ well Nathan what do we need to ask ourselves first? A

Nice job, man. All right, so first A What is this about versus 26 through 29 What do you think that passage is talking about? How do we become children of God?
That was false. Chapter Four is going back into that.
That's right, verse four of chapter four, ties it into the last part, but this first part verses 26 through 29. What is it talking about with our relationship to God?
What's first 26 say? Are we strangers from God? Are we slaves of God? Are we sons were children of God. Because we did good stuff. What's the same verse 26.
So faith
that's right through faith in Christ Jesus. Yeah, it's kind of like this. This letter is all one thing and holds together, doesn't it? Yep. So we're we are all sons of God through faith in Jesus Christ. Right, as many of us who have been what was first 27 Say
baptized,
baptized into Christ, and have put on Christ right. So we, we are baptized, right, the signs and seal of the covenant of, of Christ were united to Christ and baptism. And in our baptism, then it's this, this idea that now we live our lives in Christ Jesus. Right. That's why he was able to say in chapter two, it is no longer I who live but Christ who lives in me, and the life which I now live in the flesh. I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself up for me. Right so his life is hidden. In Christ. Right and the baptism is that sign and seal of that. And so there is an do Jewish people in the church that they receive a different type of sign. Jewish people in the New Testament Church received a different sign. What's are there a whole bunch of different signs in the New Testament for that being united to Christ? No, no, no, there's just one. If you're a Jewish person, guess what the sign is that you've been united to Christ.
Huh? Same one,
the same one? What what sign and seal would that be? Baptism? What about if you were a Greek person? What would be the sign and seal of you being united to Jesus? And what's that? Baptism? What about if you were a slave? What Sinai would you have placed upon you that you were one that you were united to Jesus, one of the children of God. Baptism. What about if you were a master? What sign would you get? What about if you were a wife? What about a husband? Really, everybody gets the same sign. Yeah, that's right, for you are all one in Christ. And if you are Christ, then you are who verse 29 There

not according to Abraham's promise according to the promise, right? This is the promise of the seed right and God didn't say and to the seeds, but and to the seed being Christ, one seed. So if we are in Christ, then we get all the promises that were given to Abraham.
I think that also ties back to the last is just kind of keeps
it does he's kind of, he's kind of tying together. Like, just keep tying back to the previous stuff to make it stronger, don't you? Yep. And so we are heirs what what do you think the word heirs means?
Want to get the inheritance?
That's right. So when when Daddy dies someday, and Mommy dies, what's going to happen to all of our stuff?

That's right. Right. So everybody's, the heirs get everything. Now. Interestingly, in biblical times, even until recently, in the last 150 years, it's changed. You know, who would get the lion's portion of the inheritance? The oldest son well, who is the heir of the promise? Christ, Christ. But you know what? The Bible calls Jesus, our older brother. And so if we're in him, he he does something remarkable. He gives us all the promises. Is that remarkable? That in Jesus, we become full heirs. We're not like the little sibling who only gets a little bit or the stepchild who's written out of the will or something like that know if we have faith in Jesus Christ, and we are full heirs, according to the promise. And so, he says in verse in chapter four verses one through five he talks about a child write a child who's kept under a stewardship That's right. Now I say that the air as long as he is a child does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all right. Are you allowed to just go to the bank and take out stuff out of my bank account? Oh, yeah. All right. But But you're a child, right? Are you allowed to do those things? But someday when I get old, you might, I might have it in part of my will are part of my plan, that I appoint a couple of children to be my caretakers. And so it might be that someday when I get older in life, I might need you and Deborah to do things like helped me with my taxes. Or pay my bills. And so you might be, like, able to sign from my stuff. But Is anybody allowed to do that as a slave with a slave be allowed to do that? Yeah. No. No, at this time, no, a slave was not allowed. To do those types of things. Yeah, no, no, no, no, a slave wouldn't be allowed to do those things. And so he says, but a child and verse two is put under guardians and stewards until the appointed time by the father. Even so we were children. We were in bondage under the elements of the world. So he says, We, and he's, some people think this is only referring to Jewish people. I think the law is here being used in a very broad sense, not just Mount Sinai, although it's including Mount Sinai. I think it's talking about the covenant of works. But he's saying so, this moral law
the only way to get to heaven skywalks that's that's the only way to get to heaven, is if you're that's the only second way but no.
One row center, right. We have to be perfect to get to heaven. But you are justified by your works, or I shouldn't say that sorry. You are justified by works. But guess what? They're not your works. They're Jesus's works. Right? Jesus fulfilled the covenant of works, right? You never sinned. But when the fullness of time had come God sent forth who was verse forcing. Verse four of chapter four, but when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His son, who's that? Jesus? And Jesus was what what, what is it say after that? born of a woman born under the law, so Jesus was fully man, and fully liable to all the laws. That's right, so that verse five, why did Why was Jesus born of a woman? Why was he born on a law? What is verse five say? What was the purpose of that?
Unknown to redeem
those who were under the law you and me, every person who ever walked this planet, every Jewish person who receives a law at Mount Sinai, right, all of us under the law that we might, what? Why did Jesus written
adoption? So? That's right.
He redeemed us from the curse of the law. He became a curse for us by hanging on that tree that we might become children of God. Now, here's the problem, right? If somebody says that this only applies to Jewish people, then does Jesus's sacrifice on the cross. What what does that imply of Jesus's sacrifice on the cross? If Jesus only redeemed those who are under the law and that means that's only Jewish people, then who does? What? What is his crucifixion limited to Jewish people? But as Jesus's becoming a curse on the tree, limited to just Jewish people? No, he became the curse for us. That we might become the children of God. Right? And because you are sons, verse six, and because you are sons, God has sent forth what? The spirit of who? Of his son and what is the Spirit of his Son reside? thoughts in our hearts, in our hearts, is what verse five says, or verse six in our hearts, and because the Spirit of his Son is in our hearts, what is our what comes out of our hearts? Good things crying out, Abba, Father. Right, do you if you got really hurt could you imagine yelling out for daddy? Yeah, right. That's the same idea here. Have you seen this happen in Mommy and Daddy's lives where sometimes things are just going wrong and mommy and daddy just have to stop everything and pray. Just God please help us. We need wisdom. We need help. And that's because the Spirit of his Son dwells in our hearts. And so we cry out, Abba, Father. Well, last thing verse seven. The conclusion of all this is what? Verse seven therefore,
you another slide, but
you're not asleep, but you're a son and if you're a son, you're an heir. But you get all the promises given to Abraham, because you're in Christ. So, do the good things come because of us? Why do we get the good things? Because of Jesus? Why would God here's a big question. Why would God decide to show someone like you? The good things yes.
Do deserve to be in there. So why would he give it to you? Because it's like categories. But that makes me want to cry sometimes. Did you know that?
Yeah, that's good news. Right. That's the gospel that that Jesus came that he didn't come for the righteous but for sinners.
That's good news for someone like me. It's good news for people. What do you think is the best verse to summarize this section?
Six and seven. Okay. Yeah, I like that too. I think six and seven. I also like verse 29. All right. Well, good. Let's let's go ahead and go to applications right calling What do you think we're called to do in response to this? No. This passage we hold. Well, let's let's change calling to Christ. What are we called to do in Christ? Faith what is saving faith? Believing? And what does that mean? Okay, do you remember what is faith in Jesus Christ faith in Jesus Christ is a saving grace whereby a sinner out of a true sense of his sin death with oh, that's repentance on the life. Sorry. Sorry, saving faith is a resting and receiving of Jesus Christ alone, as he has offered to us in the gospel. So do you think today you could have peace? You could rest in Jesus? Do you think you could receive him as he's presented to us here in the gospel? I think that's what's calling us to do. You're right. It's not calling us to do good works yet. Right.
