Let's pray. Father, we thank you so much for Your Word. We thank you for the work of Jesus Christ. We thank you for the Holy Spirit. Father, we pray that we would walk in your ways in Jesus's name, Amen. All right, so we are at Galatians chapter three. beginning at verse 10. Galatians chapter three beginning at verse 10. Nathan you want to read 10 through 14 and then all read 15 through 25.
So as many as all of the works of the law under the cause, for it is what causes everyone who does not continue and all new things which are written in the book of the law to do that, but that no one is justified by the law. It must sight of God is evident for the just shall live by faith. Yet the law is not faith, but the man who does shall live by us from the cost of the war having come costs for us phrase cost is ever hence or actually that the blessing of Abraham might come upon Gentiles in in Christ Jesus, that the that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith
rather than I speak in the manner of men. Though it is not though it is only a man's covenant. Yet, if it is confirmed, no one knows or adds to it. Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He does not say and to seeds, as of many, but as of one, and to your seed, who is Christ. And this I say that the law, which was 430 years later, cannot know the covenant that God that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect. For if the inheritance is of the law. It is no longer of promise, but God gave it to Abraham by promise. What purpose then does the law serve? It was added, because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made, and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator. Now mediator does not mediate for one only, but God is One is a law then against the promises of God? Certainly not. For if there had been a law given, which could have given life truly righteousness would have been by the law, but the scripture has confirmed has confined all under sin. That the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law kept for the faith which would afterward be with real revealed. Therefore, the law was our tutor, to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. Well, we need to ask ourselves, a B. What's the best? That's right, and see what are we called to do? Good, good. So first, we need to ask ourselves, what's this about? So in verses 10 through 14 For as many are of the works of the law are under a what? The cops under the curse? Why would it be that if we were under the law, we would be under a curse? Yeah, we can't keep the law. That's right. And so it says, everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them there. What if you don't do every single thing in the book of the law, what are you cursed? Says only good deal. Know, what is the Westminster shorter catechism say? Remember when we went through the Catechism this year, and it had all the 10 commandments, everything that was required and everything that was forbidden? Yep. And then at the very end of all the 10 commandments, it says, Is anyone in this life perfectly able to keep the commandments of God? No, but we death daily. in thought, word Indeed. Indeed. Right. Yeah. So there's

You think the answer just get longer longer? Yep, yep. So yeah, so the problem is that we break the law right. And so if all of us break the law, can we be justified in the sight of God because of the law? No, how will we be justified? What is what is Old Testament say? What's verse 11? Say?

Yeah. So how are we made right with God as a by the keeping of the law? How are we made right with God? How are we justified? By faith that's right. By faith, right, but the law is not a faith. Right. So Christ redeemed us from what in verse 13. He purchased us back from what?
Cost That's right. How did how did Jesus redeem us from the curse of the law? Right he became the curse for us. Right curse it is everyone who hangs on the train, that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through how do we receive the Spirit? Is it through the keeping of the law? What's the say here? The very last word of verse 14. By faith, by faith, how do we receive the Spirit? How do we become children of the covenant? How do we receive the promises? How are we justified? How are we cleansed of our sins? That's right by faith, my faith, right? And so he talks about this covenant, right in verses 15 through 18. And God makes this covenant with Abraham, do you remember that when he Do you remember some of the promises he made to Abraham? He said his descendants would be what? Recent look at this, look up at the sky.

God's not canceling his promise by 430 years later, giving the law that's not how this worked. So he says, What purpose so then the question is, what purpose is law? Right if by the law we find out about sin and death and we're condemned

Oh, say Oh, you want to learn how to have faith. You said? That's what the law says. But that's not what. That's
exactly the law in verse 22. Right. But the scripture has confirmed or confined all under sin, that the promises by faith in Christ might be given to those who believer. So the law came to convict us of sin. It shows us the holiness of God, does God perfectly keep the law? Yeah, did Jesus perfectly keep the law? Yeah. So it shows us here's the bar of righteousness. Like have you ever seen when we have you ever seen videos of the Olympics when people are trying to jump over that high bar? And what happens if they hit the bar? They get hurt. They fall do they are the winners. But can anyone in humanity ever get to the bar of God's righteousness?
Well, little guy and literally, it only jumped like an inch off the Jump leg or foot big guys feeling good about himself or really works helpful goddess and just like your way up here is like, how am I ever gonna get that?
Yeah, yeah, right. He's never gonna reach that bar Izzy. Now we're gonna jump high enough. So he falls short. The glory of God. That's what this scripture has done. It showed all of us our sin, which teaches us our need for what for faith, faith and who? Faith in Christ. That's right. But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law kept for the faith, which would afterward be revealed. Therefore the law was our and this is where you are right? Verse 24. The law was our tutor to bring us to all know not to faith. Verse 24. Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to
to Christ better than faith that we might just, we might be justified by faith. That's right. But it's Christ. The object of our hope. The exactly the object of our faith is Christ. Do is is faith what we hope in? No we hope and who? Christ right we hope in Jesus we love Jesus we follow Jesus. He's our only hope he's our only our only salvation. Right? We trust in the King of kings. Some people get that confused. Right? Some people will actually cling to their faith,
saying, Well, I made a profession of faith. But their hope is actually in their faith rather than in the
well they believe in their faith. Which actually does tell you gets confusing. Yeah. They believe in the faith. Faith is believing. That's right, but that makes it
Yeah, but the object of our faith is who Christ? Yeah. So we go to Jesus. Or we go to Christ. Wonderful. For as many of you were baptized in OHP. So that's, that's tomorrow's verse sorry. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. Right. So we'll talk later about the purpose of the law now in our lives. Right, but do we need the law anymore in the sense that this is somehow how we're going to get our righteousness? Do we use the law in a way that is going to condemn us to hell? No, no, because who do we have? We have Jesus. That's right. Well, that was a big section. What do you think is the best verse to summarize all that? There's kind of three different sections two or three different sections. What would you underline in that first section, maybe 10 through 18 or 10 through 15. To do more than one speeches, that would be Oh, really? Okay, go ahead. 15 1615 and 616. I speak in a matter of man though. It is only a man's covenant yet it is confirmed. No one knows it or adds to it now to Abraham and his seed. The promises were the promises made, he does not say and to seeds, as to many but as of one into your seed, who is Christ that promise was given to Jesus? You think that's, I think that's good. Yeah. Yeah, I really like that for I'm gonna split into three sections. That's what I would underline for the section 15 through 19 for 10 through 14, I would underline, underline. 10 and 11. We hope in Jesus and the object of our faith is Jesus. Good? Yeah. You know, I think of hope and the eager expectation right, something you know, is true, but you're waiting for it. Right? Yeah, I like that. That's good. hope in Christ, have faith in Christ, claim to Christ. I think also, I think being aware. This is one of the things for me, you know, sometimes I can get mixed up between my sanctification or my trying to walk by the Spirit trying to do the good things, but those good things end up actually becoming almost like a works righteousness. And I have to be careful that in my own heart like No, no, I'm never good enough. Only Jesus is good enough. Are you ready to pray? Okay. Father, we thank you so much for this day. Thank you for the hope that we have in Jesus. Thank You that You have shown us how holy and righteous our savior is. And we pray that we would rest in Him alone.
