Scripture Passage

"If a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, then both of them shall die—the man that lay with the woman, and the woman; so you shall put away the evil from Israel."

A — About

What Is This Passage About?

Adultery is a serious attack on marriage, family, and society. The law holds both willing participants responsible rather than punishing only the woman, restraining sin and requiring covenant faithfulness from both sexes.

B — Best Verse

Which Verse Best Summarizes the Passage?

Deuteronomy 22:22

Because the passage is one verse, Bryan and his son explicitly identify the whole verse as the best summary of its command and judgment concerning adultery.

C — Called or Christ

C — Christ Connection

Honor marriage with exclusive faithfulness and refuse to use other people. Yet no sinner is beyond hope: Jesus bore guilt for the sexually immoral, forgives and cleanses the sick, and calls them to go and sin no more.

good morning good morning welcome to coffee and devotions this morning we're at Deuteronomy chapter 22 verse 22 just one single little verse it's on adultery I'm going have some coffee we'll pray we'll get into God's word some coffee it's too hot okay well I'll drink it [Music] then went down the wrong pipe dude you ready to pray you want to pray for us you want me to pray Lord we thank you so much for this day thank you for your word thank you for the blessing it is to get to read your Bible together Lord we pray that your Holy Spirit would please help us to understand and to live in jesus' name amen all right Deuteronomy chapter 22 verse 22 all right I bet you can read a whole bunch of this ready right here if a man is is found lying with a woman married a husband husband the then not both but both of them shall and that way is the woman and the woman so put mhm away the evil good job reading man that was a great job all right so we got to ask ourselves our three questions a what is this about B what is the and C what are we called to do so what do you think this passage was about don't adultery yeah don't commit adultery right so if there's a man and he's found lying uh with a woman and she's already married to a husband what should happen yeah to the woman or to the man both that's right both of them right because adultery is a very very very serious issue isn't it yeah how do you think mommy would feel if Daddy said you know what I want to go have another girl I'm G to have a girlfriend I want to go have another wife yeah right no no bueno absolutely not no no no right so God is again constraining their sin telling them that hey when you guys do this stuff this is wrong and it's going to hurt Society it's going to hurt families it's not good right why do you think it goes out why do you think God goes out of his way to say that it's not just the the man who has to be put to death but it's the man and the woman woman's a Chu well why not just the woman and leave the man alone yeah right so they're they're both committing adultery well here's an interesting thing by the way what do you think is the best verse to summarize this the whole the whole thing great because it's verse it's one verse but I'm going to move this towards Christ here just for a moment and there's a famous story and it's some people dispute it but I think it's a true story Jesus has a woman who's brought to him the elders drag this woman in front of Jesus and they say we caught this woman in the act of adultery and the law says that we should Stone her to death what do you say what do you think Jesus said the Bible says that Jesus bent down on the ground and he wrote something in the ground the Bible doesn't tell us what he wrote but then after he had written on the ground he said to the people standing around he said let him who has no sin cast the first stone and one by one from the oldest to the least they dropped their stones and walked away and then the women it was just Jesus and the woman left standing there and he looked at the woman he said ma'am where are your accusers and she had no more accusers and Jesus told her no longer do I condemn you but go and sin no more why do you think Jesus didn't Stone her why didn't think you say guys you're right you know your Bible she should be put to death where was the guy they said they caught her her in the ACT where's the guy were they keeping the law did she deserve death if she was truly caught in adultery yes yeah but what would Jesus do within a matter of just a short matter of few years what would he do possibly for that lady Jesus would die on the cross for her see he took her guilt and her sin upon himself there even people who have been caught in horrible sins like adultery do you think they're without hope Beyond Redemption no Jesus came did he come to for the healthy or for the sick for the sick that's right that's how much I Think Jesus loved that woman but H he came for the healthy and the sick yeah well he did come for the healthy too you're right well he says I did not come for the healthy but for the sick says the healthy don't need a doctor but the sick do now he came for us he came to forgive us of our sins and to cleanse us of all our transgressions but all of us are sick yeah except Jesus yeah except Jesus he's the great physician isn't he yeah what do you think this calls you to do in your life well should you look at women as something to be used no right if God gives you someday a wife should you love her should you love her and want to sleep with other women no if the Lord gives you a wife then you should love her alone right be committed to her take vows be a man have eyes for your wife only right do you think well so but if it's Deborah right she doesn't have to listen to this passage right what about Ellie she doesn't have to listen to this passage what about mommy she doesn't have to listen to this passage yeah right the point is that there were to be those who are committed committed to walking before God in CLE cleanness and Purity you done with this can you pray for us God please hope that we have a good day please hope that and please hope that we take this W home home and please hope that know what it means in Jesus name amen well may the Lord bless you knowing that he has loved you with a perfect Covenant love that he will always love you if you are part of his bride the church we'll see you next time you want say bye bye
