Deuteronomy 11:1-25

Good morning, good morning. Welcome to Coffee and Devotions. This morning we're at Deuteronomy chapter 11 verses 1 through 25. We're going to talk about kind of an expansion of that great Shema in Deuteronomy chapter 6. How do we love the Lord our God? Well, you ready to have some coffee and we'll pray?
Yeah? All right, you can have some coffee. Oh, you shook your head so hard we almost spilt all the coffee. Okay, that's enough, that's enough. Just a sip. Okay. That's enough. All right. Would you like to pray or do you want me to pray? Let me pray. OK. Lord, we thank you so much for this day. Thank you for your word. Help us understand it. In Jesus's name. Amen. All right. So. Here we go. Ready? Deuteronomy chapter 11.
Therefore, you shall love the Lord your God and keep his charge, his statutes, his judgments and his commandments always. So all the time or none the time. Sometime or all the time all the time Know today that I do not speak with your children whom who have not known and have not seen the chastening of the Lord your God His greatness and his mighty hand and his outstretched arm his signs and his acts which he did in the midst of Egypt the king to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to all his land What he did to the army of Egypt, to their horses and their chariots, how he made the waters of the Red Sea overflow them as they pursued you, and how the Lord has destroyed them to this day. What he did for you in the wilderness until you came up to this place.
And what he did to Dathan and Abiram, the son of Elieb, the sons of Reuben, how the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, their household, their tents, and all their substance that was in their possession in the midst of all Israel. But your eyes have seen every great act which Jehovah had done.
All right, so sit up, please. So did all the kids see these amazing things? Nope. Nope. But did their mommies and daddies? Yep. So do you think they had the responsibility to listen? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Right. Because God had talked to them. All right, here we go.
Therefore, you shall keep every commandment which I command you today, that you may be strong and go in and possess the land which you cross over to possess, that you may prolong your days in the land which Jehovah swore to give your fathers to them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey.
Ooh, you like honey? You like milk? Does that sound like a good land? A land flowing with milk and honey? Mm-hmm. Meli. Yeah, meli in Greek is honey. Good job. For the land which you go to possess is not like the land of Egypt from which you have come, where you sowed your seed and watered it by foot as a vegetable garden, but the land which you cross over to possess is a land of hills and valleys. which drinks water from the rain of heaven, a land for which the Lord your God cares. The eyes of the Lord your God are always on it, from beginning of the year to the very end of the year.
So, they were used to living in the Nile Delta, where it was nice and flat, and they watered their garden. And they were slaves. Yeah, they were slaves. But now they're going, and what's the land going to be like? We don't have to water the garden. Yeah, who's going to water it? God. He's going to bring the rain. Yeah, so He's going to bring the rain.
And it shall be that if you earnestly obey my commandments, what do you think earnestly means? What do you think earnestly means? It means like, do it really with all your might. Really, really with all your might? Yeah, really, really with all your might.
Oh, wow. So, if you earnestly obey my commandments, which I command you today. Yes. Yeah, to, ready for the commandment? To love the Lord your God and serve him with all your heart. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And with all your soul. Yeah. You ready? Then I will give you the rain for your land in its season. Yeah. Who's going to give him the rain? God will. All right, don't yell. The early rain and the latter rain.
Okay. That you may gather in your grain your new wine and your oil. And I will send grass in your fields. What's that? new grain. Yeah. So they're going to have like barley and wheat and stuff like that. Like we have salad. We have, um, we have, uh, stuff in our garden, like the strawberries and the cucumbers. Mm-hmm. Yeah, so that God was gonna give them all that right? He's gonna send them grass in your fields for your livestock Oh That's right. Grass on our land and corn around us. And does Mr. McElhaney have a field where the cows can eat? That's right. That's right. So take heed of yourselves, lest your heart be deceived and you turn aside and serve other gods and worship them. Would that be good? We wouldn't have this land. That's right.
We would have a desert and we couldn't even eat. That's right, if there was a desert, we couldn't even eat. Lest the Lord's anger be aroused against you, and he shut up the heavens, so there be no rain, and the land yield no produce, and you perish quickly from the good land which the Lord is giving you. So if there was no rain, what would happen? I don't know. Would they have food? No. Would their animals have food? No. So what would happen? They wouldn't have food. And what would happen if you don't have food? You would die. You would die or have to leave, wouldn't you?
Therefore, you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul and bind them as a sign on your hand. on your head. And they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. Like this? You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house. Like me? When you walk in the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house, and on your gates. Like when in the audio book it be like I have to sit down. Oh, and somebody needs to really write away. Then I won't sit down. And you shall write them, that your days may be, that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land. which the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, like the days of the heavens above the earth.
For if you carefully keep all these commandments, which I command you to do, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, and to hold fast to him, then the Lord will drive out all these nations before you." Mm-hmm. He'd drive all the nations out before them. That's right. and you will dispossess greater and mightier nations than yourselves.
Every place on which the sole of your foot shall tread shall be yours, from the wilderness and Lebanon, from the river, the Euphrates River, even to the Western Sea shall be your territory. No man shall be able to stand against you, Lord your God will put the dread of you and the fear of you upon all the land where you tread, just as he said to you. Yeah, that was a big passage. What do you think that passage was talking about?
I forgot about it. You forgot about it already? Do you think it was about the land? Yeah. And was the land going to be good or bad? Good. If they did what? Believed in God. Believed in him and kept his... Promise. Oh, no, not his promise, his commandments. Yeah, they need to keep his commandments. So they were going... Commandments. Yeah. Multiple. Yeah. So they they need to keep his commandments. Right. And that was how they were going to show that they loved him. Yeah, so that's what this is about.
The best verse, here's what I have underlined in my Bible, ready? Look at this. I have verse 18, 19, 20, and 21 underlined. That's what I have underlined in my Bible. But maybe somebody else would underline something else. I also have verse 13 underlined. But I also have verse 1 underlined. Yeah, it's still going.
What do you think about calling? What do you think you should do after hearing this in the Bible? Tell other people that God is alive. Tell other people that God is alive? And you have to worship the one true God. Yeah, we can worship this one true God.
Good. Do you think we can keep his commandments? Maybe. Yeah, do you think we can do it perfectly? No. Well, hold on. I thought you were perfect. No. No? We're all sinners. We're all sinners? Yeah. But how can you be with God? Well, you gotta tell me. Because you believe in God. Well, did God send his son Jesus? Yes. And what did he do for us? He died on the cross. That's right, he died on the cross for us. And because of that, does God take care of your sin?
Yeah. Yeah. Why did you say that we're all sinners? Yeah, we are all sinners, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Yeah, I was just talking to you. I just wanted to find out from you. So do you think even though you're a sinner, do you think you can still try to love God and keep his way? Yeah. Hey, you ready to pray? Okay.
God, we thank you so much that you loved us so much that you sent your son. And Father, we pray that you would please help us, give us strength to walk in your ways. Lord, we are all sinners, but you are a good and gracious God. Thank you that you satisfied your wrath in Jesus. Thank you that we are free indeed. Free to love you, free to love each other.
