Hebrews 9:23-28

This is one of my favorite parts of the Bible. That's what Yeah, it's a super cool passage. Alright, so we're at Hebrews chapter 9. Good morning Hebrews chapter 9. We're gonna be at verses 23 Through 28. So let's have some coffee. I think you need it. You'd look a little bit tired. Oh, yeah Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, it's burning hot. You won't have a tongue after you drink that. Hey, don't drink all of it Don't drink all my coffee boy You ready to pray? Okay.
Lord, thank you so much for this day. Thank you for the blessing of your word. Thank you for the joy of your salvation. Thank you for the hope we have in Jesus. Please help us. Please give us your wisdom. Give us your spirit. Enlighten our eyes, soften our hearts. Give us joy in Jesus' name.
Amen. all right hebrews chapter 9 verses 23 through 28 therefore it was necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens should be purified with these but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these can you read this verse nope for christ christ has no has not entered, made, copies, true, but into heaven itself. up here. job not that he should offer himself often as the high priest enters the most holy place every year with blood of another he then should have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world but now once at the end of the ages he has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many to those who eagerly wait for him, he will appear a second time apart from sin for Salvation.
All right. We got three questions a what is this B? What's the and C? What are we all right, so the tabernacle with the altar and Showbread table and the lampstand and the incense and the holy place and the Holy of Holies and the Ark of the Covenant Was that the end of the story?
Cheers. Man, you guys got to stop being so fluent in sarcasm, man. You know me too well. It's like you're my kids. No, no, no. Right. No. What was it all pointing to? God. Yeah, it was all pointing to the heavenly tabernacle. Right. And notice what he says here. He says there are copies of the things in heaven. But the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. Right. And Jesus entered. Jesus entered the holy places.
But guess what? They're not the ones made by human hands. Not the earthly temple, not the earthly tabernacle. Those are copies of what is true. So what tabernacle did Jesus enter into? The one in heaven. And who is truly in that tabernacle? God is that's right.
That's what verse 24 is getting at right and it's not that Jesus Need to be sacrificed over and over and over again But how many times did Jesus need to be sacrificed? Once that's right just once right not that he should himself offer himself often Yeah, right the high priest every time he went to into the presence of God what did he have to do I Yeah, he had to sacrifice an animal. But if Jesus is going to regularly be in the Holy of Holies... And he would have to sacrifice himself constantly, even from the beginning of ages.
Right. Because does Jesus have a beginning of age? No. And so that's what it's getting at. Right. As not as a high priest who enters the holy place every year with blood of another. Right. Verse 26. He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world. But Jesus suffered once at the end of the ages. So we're at the, did you know that we're at the end of the ages? Yeah. Yeah. Right. That the age of the old Testament of the old covenant is gone. Now it's the age of the new covenant. He has appeared to put away by the sacrifice of himself.
How do you get rid of sin? So who can? Yeah. How, how can Jesus deal with sin? Yeah, so the serpent would crush the or the Sun which the seed would crush the head of the serpent Yeah, but it says here that he died once If that is appointed for men or for sorry he has appeared to put away sin Because what's gonna happen it's appointed for every man to what? To die once and what happens after you die Well, it's not just you die. Well, maybe. Yeah, right, but after this, the judgment, the judgment.
OK, so the judgment is going to be, are you in Christ or outside of Christ? Right, so Christ was offered once One time to bear the sins of me. Does Jesus need to be sacrificed every week? What about every time we do the Lord's Supper? Is Jesus being sacrificed again?
Yeah. No, no, no. Right. You're being sarcastic again. People who are listening can't see you with your with your silly faces and you're shaking your head while you say yes or while you say no or whatever, which way you said that. You said yes. And you shook your head. No. Yeah.
Jesus no he doesn't have to be offered again and again and again no way once Christ was offered once to bear the sins of me. Did you know that daddy went to a church one time where the guy was like you know in Protestant churches you guys have a pastor but here we have a priest because we have a real sacrifice. And he was doing the Eucharist. He was doing communion with people. And he was saying the communion was an actual sacrifice of Jesus again.
Well, that's what this I think that's going against this passage, right? For Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many to those who eagerly wait for him. He will appear a second time apart from sin for salvation. Right. Would Jesus ultimately and eventually save us? Will he appear again? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. And for those of us who have faith in him. Right, that'll be our that's what some people call final salvation. Okay, what is the best verse to summarize this? Do you see how much I have underlined? Yeah, I have like almost everything underlined. Well, let's talk about see calling.
What's this calling us to do? How does this show us Christ? What's this got to do with the covenant? What do you think? How does this show us Jesus Okay, Jesus doesn't have to be sacrificed again and again again, where is Jesus I yeah up up up up up in heaven right and does jesus what's gonna happen when we die up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up Well, yeah, we're gonna have to we're gonna be judged, right? And what's gonna be the judgment? Is it? Is it?
Oh, you've done all these bad things Dan Dan. You're you're absolutely going to be judged forever. You have no hope whatsoever because of your sin. No, it's... But, if you do, like... You need to pay. That's right. It's not what you do, but what Jesus has done for us. Still don't want to do bad things. No, we don't want to do bad things because we love God. But if you do, he's not going to do it. You sinned, you're going to die, you're going to die.
So accept it. Exactly. Exactly. Right. But Jesus died for sinners like us, didn't he? Yeah. So we can have hope even in the judgment day. Yeah, because we have hope in Jesus. Well, may you have a good day as you hope and rejoice in Jesus. May you know that he has died once for your sin and has done. And you can have confidence in the judgment day. Bye.
