9 This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah begot three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.

  Well, good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Welcome to Coffee and devotions is where every day you and I, we get together we have a little bit of coffee. We get into God's word and we grow in our love for the Lord together in this year 2023. Lord willing, we'll make it from the book of Genesis to the Book of Leviticus. I'm so glad to be with you today. We have some coffee, we'll pray and we'll get into the Lord's word. Let's pray. Father, what a blessing it is to come to you. To read your word. We pray Father, that your Holy Spirit would be working in our hearts that we would walk before you that we would love you and walk in your ways in Jesus's name, Amen. Alright, so we're at Genesis chapter six. That's just chapter six. Let me grab my glasses here. Genesis chapter six. Just have a few verses today verses nine through 12. This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man perfect in his generations Noah walked with God, and Noah but God three sons Shem, Ham and Japheth the earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. So God looked upon the earth and indeed it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way. On the earth. Well, we need to ask ourselves, a What is this about be? What's the best verse to summarize this and see, what do we call to do? Well, what is this about? This is a new toilet note. This is a new genealogy. So there's a new section of the story that the last section, as we looked at the genealogy of Seth has came to the point in which God looked upon all humanity and said that every intent with their hearts was only evil continually. We talked about that yesterday. But no have found favor in the eyes of God. So as we came to the close of that section, we talked about the grace that sinners still find with God and here we are introduced more to Noah. Noah was a just man perfect in his generations, Noah walked with God. This is the idea that Noah was a religious man that Noah was a righteous man that Noah was a man who learned from his granddad Enoch, how to walk with God. They would have overlapped just a little bit in their lives a little bit in comparison to how long their lifespans were but just a little while in their lives. It's no doubt that Noah spent time with his granddad enough in learned how to walk before God with him and compared to everyone else around he was a righteous man. Now I don't think here that the scripture is calling him a righteous man means that he is ontologically righteous meaning that he is in every way in his person without spot or blemish or wrinkle or any type of sin. We're going to find out after the flood. Noah still struggles with sin. But we ought not to diminish who know it was either I'm gonna look over here at the laptop and just read two different verses from the New Testament as the God the Holy Spirit described no one and Second Peter two, five. It calls no a preacher of righteousness. And Hebrews chapter 11. He's used as a model of faith and it says, By faith no, we're being divinely warned of things not yet seen moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household by which he condemned the world that and became heir of the righteousness, which is according to faith. He was He walked with God because he was a man of faith. And so we find no finding finding favor in the Lord because he believes the Lord and he follows the Lord. He is his vertical relationship changes his horizontal relationships, how he behaves and walks and what he does in life. And first, Sullivan tells us the earth also was corrupt before God and the earth was filled with violence. There's this reality that in Noah's life, it's people are violent with each other. I don't know if that's any different than today. But the Lord looks down upon humankind and he shaking his head they've corrupted themselves to violent a violent place live and and there's Noah, and he seems to be the outlier. As everybody else's in their corruption, it seems as if Noah is the one who's by himself, acting differently and he's got three boys with him. Shem, Ham and Japheth. So God looked upon the earth and indeed it was corrupt for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. Notice who the responsibility is there. The corruption is man's The corruption is our own. So what is this section about? This is zooming in from all these different people in the last story, the different genealogy now we're zooming in on a new section of the story of Genesis and we come to Noah, we come to a man of faith, we come to a preacher of righteousness we come to and zoom in narrow in on a man who walks with God who goes about with reverence and fear, believing in the holy one, his creator, what's the best first to underline in this section? are in my Bible, I have verse nine, underlined. And I have verse 12. underlined. What would you underline in your Bible? Well, last seek calling what are we called to do? In response to this? Well, I would encourage us to walk with God. Right to have situational righteousness, right? We need a righteousness that's not of our own and this is a righteousness I come to by faith in Jesus Christ. But when we believe in Jesus Christ, we are grafted into Jesus Christ. He is the vine we are the branches as we are in Him, we bear much good fruit. Ripe fruit in keeping with repentance, turning away from violence, turning away from corruption, and turning towards righteousness turning towards holiness, turning towards life, and light. So as we live in this corrupt world, as we see adultery all around us, as we see children dishonouring their parents, as we see covetousness mark our entire our entire community in our economy, as we see people justifying why they are able to bin twist, or just outright lie. As we see, people steal in widows taken advantage of as we see the Lord's Day profaned. As we see idolatry proliferate and other gods are lifted up and even commingled with biblical Christianity. Where will you stand? Where you walked before God we walk with God we hold that faith once delivered unto you. We love the Lord and follow His ways. That's what the Lord calls us to, to love him. Not out of a slavish fear. But because we get to walk with him. Let's pray. Father, we thank you for this day. What a huge blessing it is. To come to your word. Father, we plead with you that you would let us walk before you we need your Holy Spirit to do this. So Father, please, would you sanctify us? Would you teach us your ways? In Jesus's name, Amen.
