Main points

Abundant grace never gives us permission to keep sinning. Paul emphatically rejects treating grace as an excuse for disobedience.
Christians have a new Lord. We cannot gladly serve both Jesus and sin, our former master.

Grace: God’s undeserved favor in Jesus, which rescues sinners and leads them into a changed life.
Union with Christ: Being joined to Jesus by the Spirit and through faith, sharing in the benefits of his death and resurrection.
Baptism: The covenant sign and seal pointing to cleansing and union with Christ. The sermon warns that receiving the outward sign does not automatically make someone born again.
Redemption: Deliverance purchased by Jesus through his blood, described in the sermon as rescue from the slave market of sin.
Propitiation: Christ’s sacrifice satisfying God’s just judgment against sin and bringing reconciliation with God.
Justification: God’s gracious declaration that a sinner is righteous through faith in Jesus, because of Christ’s work.
