Scripture
Text
Acts 17:11, “These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.”
Summary
- The Bereans receive apostolic preaching eagerly while examining Scripture daily to determine whether the teaching is true.
- Christians must not surrender discernment to a pastor, teacher, tradition, or confident opponent, but test claims by God's Word.
- Study requires patient questions, comparison of passages, and willingness to return to Scripture when an answer is not immediately known.
- The purpose is not intellectual pride but knowing Christ, defending truth, correcting error, and becoming people shaped by the Book.
Reflection and discussion
- Do I test even trusted teaching by Scripture?
- Can I admit when I do not know an answer and return after study?
- Is study producing knowledge of Christ or pride in information?
- What claim presently needs patient biblical examination?
