Romans 5:6-11

Romans 5 places Paul and every believer in the same condition: weak, ungodly, sinful, and once God's enemies, with no strength or righteousness to save themselves.
God proves his love through action rather than sentiment: at the right time and while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Those who believe in Jesus are justified by his blood—freely declared righteous because of Christ rather than because they earned or maintained God's favor.
Christ's death reconciles former enemies to God, and his risen, ascended life assures believers that he will save them from the coming wrath.
Christian boasting is excluded when it rests on personal goodness, but believers may rejoice and boast in God through their Lord Jesus Christ.
Because God loved sinners rather than people who had made themselves worthy, Christians must not write others off as too sinful to hear the gospel or receive compassion.

Why does Paul repeatedly say we, us, and our in Romans 5:6-11, and what does that reveal about every believer's condition apart from Christ?
Where am I still tempted to believe that I must earn God's love or keep myself in his favor by my performance?
How does Christ dying for us while we were still sinners prove that God's love is more than a feeling or an empty promise?
What is the difference between being forgiven under an uneasy truce and being truly reconciled to God?
Why does Jesus' resurrection, ascension, and continuing intercession give confidence about final salvation?
Whom have I quietly treated as too far gone, unworthy of compassion, or not worth sharing the gospel with?

Ungodly: People who do not honor and submit to God as they should; Paul includes himself and all believers in this condition apart from Christ.
Justification: God's gracious declaration that a sinner is righteous because of Jesus' blood and righteousness, received by faith rather than earned by good works.
Reconciliation: The restoration of peace and friendship with God through the death of his Son, so that those who were enemies are received as friends.
Wrath: God's holy and righteous judgment against sin, from which believers will be saved through Jesus Christ.
Intercession: The continuing work of the risen and ascended Jesus as he represents his people before the Father.
Boasting in God: Rejoicing in the Lord Jesus Christ as our only hope instead of taking confidence in our ancestry, religious performance, or moral record.
