Deuteronomy 6:4-9

Summary
- Because the Lord alone is God, every part of life should express whole-hearted love for him.
- God's Word belongs in the ordinary rhythms of home, travel, waking, and rest, not only in Sunday worship.
- Parents diligently teach by repeatedly sharpening their children's understanding and connecting Scripture to daily events.
- Husbands and fathers bear a primary responsibility to lead family worship with humility, persistence, and dependence on the Spirit.
- Wives, mothers, grandparents, and children also participate in passing down the covenant inheritance of God's Word.
- Family worship can be simple and sustainable: read a short passage, pray, sing, and optionally learn catechism together.
- The goal is not a flawless family formula but knowing Christ and forming lives that remember and walk in God's ways.
Reflection and discussion
- Would the routines and conversation of my household show that the Lord is our God?
- How can Scripture become part of ordinary moments rather than an activity isolated to Sunday?
- What pride or fear keeps me from reading and praying with my family when I do not know every answer?
- Is our family worship simple enough to sustain and appropriate to the ages of the children present?
- How can wives, grandparents, and children encourage biblical instruction without erasing the father's responsibility to lead?
- Are we passing down merely property and habits, or the lasting inheritance of God's Word and the knowledge of Christ?
