Summary
- Peace with God cannot rest on personal goodness; sinners must abandon self-righteousness and cling to Christ.
- The God of peace reconciles his enemies through the blood and righteousness of Jesus Christ.
- God is serious about holiness: he both sets his people apart as saints and progressively renovates their whole lives.
- Believers are blameless because Christ has borne their guilt, not because their obedience has become flawless.
- The faithful God preserves his people and will complete the sanctifying work he began in them.
Reflection and discussion
- When conscience condemns me, do I look to my record or to Christ's finished work?
- Where is God presently exposing and renovating sin in my thoughts, desires, or conduct?
- How does God's faithfulness give assurance without making holiness optional?
- What promises of God should I remember when I fear that I will not endure?
