Numbers 33:38-49
A — About
What Is This Passage About?
Aaron died at God's command after Israel had wandered for forty years. The people then continued their journey until they camped by the Jordan, poised at last to receive the land God had promised through Abraham centuries earlier. The long wait showed that God had neither forgotten his people nor abandoned his promise.

C — Called or Christ
C — Called to Do
Wait patiently on God and trust his perfect timing. Even when fulfillment seems slow, have faith that he never forgets his people and always keeps his promises.

Good morning, good morning. Welcome to Coffee and Devotions. This morning we're at Numbers chapter three, verses 38 through 49. We're gonna look at the death of Aaron and the Israelites continuing to go on their journey. Oh, you're being silly. All right, let's have some coffee. We'll pray and we'll get into God's word. Oh, hold on, can I drink first or do you want to drink first? It's low octane today. Too hot? Hmm. So that's a trick. I just have to heat up my coffee and you won't drink all of it. No. OK, let's pray.
God, we thank you so much for this day. We thank you for your word. Father, we pray that you would please bless us as we read it. Lord, we pray that you would teach us and lead us in your ways. Let us follow after you and love you in Jesus's name. Amen. Alright, so we're at Numbers chapter 33, verses 38 through 49. Here we go Abel, let's pay attention.
Then Aaron, do you know who Aaron was? Aaron was the high priest. Then Aaron, he was Moses's brother too. Then Aaron, the priest, went up to Mount Hor at the command of the Lord, died there in the 40th year after the children had come up out of the land of Egypt on the first day of the fifth month. How old do you think Aaron was? I don't know, 15, 16, or 100. 15, 16, or 100. Well, let's find out. Aaron was 123 years old. 123 when he died on Mount Hoar.
Now the king of Arad, the Canaanite, who dwelt in the south in the land of Canaan, heard of the coming of the children of Israel. So they departed from Mount Hor and camped at Zalmonah. And they departed from Zalmonah and camped at Punan. They departed from Punan and camped at Abath. They departed from Abath and camped at Ej Abarim at the border of Moab. They departed from Ejim and camped at Dibongad.
They moved from Dibongad and camped at Alman Diblaithim. They moved from Alman Diblaithim and camped in the mountains of Abiram for Nebo. Are you done paying attention? Okay. They departed from the mountains of Abiram and camped in the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho. They camped by the Jordan from Beth Jeshimoth as far as Abel, Acacia Grove in the plains of Moab.
So we have three questions we need to ask. A, what is this? What is about B? What's the best first to summarize and see what are we? Yeah, what are we called to do? That's right. What are we called to do? So, hey, what is this about? Well, the first part is about Aaron dying on their way. Yeah. No, we don't need coffee now. We're done with coffee. Aaron died while they were on their travels. He died.
They had been wandering for 40 years. Yeah, 40 years, that's a long time. Why do you think they had to wander for 40 years? I don't know. They disbelieved God and they wanted to go back to Egypt rather than going into the promised land. Yeah, and so they had to wander in the wilderness for 40 years, but finally at the end of 40 years, ready for verse 49, they camped by the Jordan.
This is the Jordan River. This is the river that connects the Sea of Galilee. Jesus was born up there. The Sea of Galilee all the way down the Jordan River goes head south until it reaches the Dead Sea. And now guess what? It's a very salty sea, so there's not much that lives in that sea. That's why they call it the Dead Sea. And now guess what? They camp right next to the Jordan River in the border of Moab because when they cross the river, when Joshua was about to take them across the river, they're going to conquer the Canaanites and receive the land that God had promised to them through Abraham hundreds of years before.
Man, is that a long time, like 400 years? And wandering in the wilderness for 40 years? Do you think God forgot his people? Do you think God forgot his promises? No, right now they're finally about to get the promises, even though it took a long, long time. That's right, a long time, right? But God eventually keeps his promises, doesn't he? In your life, do you feel like sometimes maybe God might be taking a long time doing things?
No, sometimes daddy feels that way, like, God, I wish you would do this more quickly. Yeah, well God is the one who remembers promises and his people in his time In my Bible, I would underline both verse 39, that the Lord is the one who had Aaron die, like he told him that was going to happen. Also, I would underline verse 49. Please stop. Please stop. You're going to spill that coffee. Please don't do that. I'd underline verse 49, that they camped by the Jordan. Because it's, it's, you're going to spill it. Okay. So last seat calling.
Can we wait on God? Can we trust God? Does he keep his promises? Yep. Let's pray. God, thank you so much that we can trust you, that we can wait on you. Lord, we pray that you would give us patience. We know that for you a day is like a year and a year, a thousand years is like a day. Lord, your timing is different than ours, but your timing is perfect. Let us have faith and trust in you. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. May God bless you as you wait on his promises. May you know that he never forgets his people and he always keeps his word. We'll see you next time. Can you say bye first? Bye. Going to get a little bit of coffee now, huh? Well, I don't know. Maybe it's going to be too hot for you.
