Prayer that the Lord Will Restore Favor to the Land
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm Of the Sons of Korah.
1 Lord, You have been favorable to Your land;
You have brought back the captivity of Jacob.
2 You have forgiven the iniquity of Your people;
You have covered all their sin.
Selah
3 You have taken away all Your wrath;
You have turned from the fierceness of Your anger.
4 Restore us, O God of our salvation,
And cause Your anger toward us to cease.
5 Will You be angry with us forever?
Will You prolong Your anger to all generations?
6 Will You not revive us again,
That Your people may rejoice in You?
7 Show us Your mercy, Lord,
And grant us Your salvation.
8 I will hear what God the Lord will speak,
For He will speak peace
To His people and to His saints;
But let them not turn back to folly.
9 Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him,
That glory may dwell in our land.
10 Mercy and truth have met together;
Righteousness and peace have kissed.
11 Truth shall spring out of the earth,
And righteousness shall look down from heaven.
12 Yes, the Lord will give what is good;
And our land will yield its increase.
13 Righteousness will go before Him,
And shall make His footsteps our pathway.

The sons of Korah remember God's forgiveness and the turning away of his anger, then ask him to restore and revive his people so they may rejoice. All right. Well, good morning and welcome to Coffee and Devotions. This is where every day we get together, we get into God's Word, and we grow in our love for the Lord together. And this year, 2021, we'll make it through all the wisdom literature. Well, this morning we are at Psalm 85. I hope that you're able to turn in your Bibles with us this morning, and we will go ahead and have some coffee, pray, and we'll get into God's Word.
Let's have some coffee. You guys got your tea? Hi! Oh, you want to say hi? Hi, guys! Okay. You guys ready to pray? Lord, we thank you so much for this day, and we thank you for your word. We pray now that as we look to you, that you would comfort us, that you would care for us, that we would grow in grace. In Jesus' name, amen. All right, here we go. Psalm 85. To the chief musician, a psalm of the sons of Korah.
Lord, you have been favorable to your land. You have brought back the captivity of Jacob and have forgiven the iniquity of your people. You have covered all their sins. You have taken away all your weapons. You have turned from the fierceness of your anger. Restore us, O God. of our salvation and cause your anger toward us to cease. Will you be angry with us forever? your anger to all generations that your people may rejoice in you.
Show us your mercy, Lord, and grant us your salvation. I will hear that I will hear what? What God the Lord will speak, for He will speak peace to His people and His saints, but let them not turn back to their folly. Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him. that glory may dwell in our land. Mercy and truth have met together. Righteousness and peace have kissed. Truth shall spring up out of the earth, and righteousness shall look down from heaven. Yes, the Lord will give what is good, and our land will yield its increase. Oh, you think God would do that? What? You think God would forget his people, Ellie? What? Ellie, would God forget his people? Yeah, and what? No, God will never forget his people. God always loves his people, always remembers them, right? He will speak peace to his people and to his saints, but let them not turn back to folly. What are some things that are folly that we might turn back to? What do you guys think? Yeah, if we fall into temptations, that's right. Yeah, what are some temptations we can turn to? What folly can we turn to? Idols. Idols, yeah. So we can bow down to idols. What are some idols that could be in our hearts? Ourselves, our bellies. Our bellies can be an idol. That's right. What's that? TV can be an idol.
Prince Royals, like you want to listen to Prince Royals right now. But kitties? Kitties could be it. Yeah, wanting too much to listen to a book maybe. Yeah, right. What we want, we want greediness, covetousness, sexual immorality. It can be, I want this toy. Yeah, a selfishness or inordinate wanting of things, that's right. That's right. And, but where do we find, Hey Ellie, listen, a dog could be an idol. Yeah. If you wanted a dog too much. So where do we go? What do we do? Who gives us salvation?
God. God does. No, it was Jesus. Yeah, he gave us salvation in Jesus. That's right. Surely his salvation is near to those who fear him. That glory may dwell in our land. May mercy and truth have met together. Righteousness and peace have what? Kissed. Righteousness and peace. We see that in Jesus, don't we? I really like 10 and 11 too. Mercy and truth have met together. Righteousness and peace have kissed. Truth shall spring out of the earth and righteousness shall look down from heaven. I think that's a great one to underline. Lord, we thank you so much that you will not be angry forever. Lord, we thank you that you have satisfied your anger and your wrath upon that cross in punishing Jesus Christ for our sins. Lord, we thank you that in Jesus Christ, mercy and truth met, righteousness and peace have kissed, that Jesus Christ was sent to make us right with you, to give us salvation. Lord, we pray that we might flourish as we rest in your salvation. In Jesus' name, amen. Well, may the Lord bless you today. May you walk in the peace of Jesus Christ, and we'll see you tomorrow.
