Psalm 115

Together we get into God's Word and we grow in our love for the Lord together. And this year, 2021, we'll make it through all the wisdom literature. Well, this morning we were at Psalm 115. Why don't we have some coffee? We'll pray. We'll get into God's Word. Let's pray.
Father, we thank you for your Word. We thank you for the blessing it is to get to come to your Word. What a joy it is, and what a privilege it is to get to read your Word. Father, we pray that you would not let it fall upon our deaf ears, but Lord, you would bury it in our hearts.
In Jesus' name, amen. Okay, here we go, Psalm 115. Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but to your name give glory, because of your mercy, because of your truth. Why should the Gentiles say, so where is their God? But our God is in heaven. He does whatever he pleases. Their idols are gold and silver, the work of men's hands.
They have mouths, but they do not speak. Eyes they have, but they do not see. They have ears, but they do not hear. Noses they have, but they do not smell. They have hands, but they do not handle. Feet they have, but they do not walk, nor do they mutter through their throat.
Those who make them are like them. So is everything, everyone who trusts in them. O Israel, trust in the Lord. He is their help and their shield. O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord. He is their help and their shield. You who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord. He is their help and their shield. The Lord has been mindful to us. He will bless us. He will bless the house of Israel. He will bless the house of Aaron. He will bless those who fear the Lord, both great and small.
May the Lord give you increase more and more. You and your children, may you be blessed by the Lord, who made heaven and earth. The heaven, even the heaven's heavens are the Lord's, but the earth has given to the children of men. but the earth he has given to the children of men. The dead do not praise the Lord, nor those who go down into silence, but he will bless the Lord from this time forth and forevermore. Praise the Lord."
Well, we need to ask ourselves, A, what is this about? B, what's the best verse to summarize this? And C, what are we called to do in response to this? So, A, what is this about? And when we turn over here and we're looking at this, What's it about? It's about lowering ourselves and fixing our eyes upon God.
It's saying, not unto us, O Lord, not unto us be the glory, but unto your great name, because of your mercy, because of your truth. And then why should the Gentiles say, where is their God? And then he talks about the different idols, right, in verses 3 through 8. He speaks about God in verse 3. God is, but our God is in heaven. He does whatever he pleases. But what are your gods like? Your gods are like gold and silver.
And you make them with ears, but they can't hear you. You make them with noses, but they can't smell. You make them with eyes, but they can't see. You make them with mouths, but they can't speak. You make them with a throat, but they can't utter forth any sound. And in all reality, You, people who make these non-seeing, non-hearing, non-speaking, non-smelling idols, you end up becoming just about as valuable as they are, right? Because it's foolishness.
And so that's, our God's not like that, right? But O house of Israel, trust in the Lord. That's what verses nine through 11 says, and three times in those three verses, three times here. He is their help and their shield. He is their help and their shield. He is their help and their shield. It is our God who is powerful and is working. He is our help and our shield to all those who fear him, the house of Israel, the house of Aaron, and to all those who fear him. He is their help and their shield.
And then in verses 12 through 13, it speaks of God's blessing. The God who hears and the God who sees, the God who smells, the God who speaks, the God who knows all things, the God who does whatever he pleases. What does he please to do? He will bless us. He has been mindful of us. He will bless the house of Israel. He will bless the house of Aaron. He will bless those who fear the Lord, both great and small. What does the Lord choose to do? He chooses to remember His people. He remembers to bless them. That's the desire of the Lord, to care for His people.
And then it's, may you be blessed by the Lord who made heavens and earth. And then it goes on about everything. Everything has been made by God. we should worship him right the final line hallelujah praise the lord praise the lord what's the best verse in this well i think i'd probably underline the whole section verses 9 through 12 that's what i would do let me know down in the comments what would you underline last calling what are we called to do well there's a command at the end of this praise the lord this morning will you Go to the Lord's throne and will you thank Him for His goodness to you? Today will you go to the Lord and will you tell Him thank you? Will you thank Him for all of His blessings? Will you thank Him for waking you up this morning? Will you thank Him for all of His goodness to you?
Let's go ahead and do that together now. Father, we thank you that you are gracious and kind that you remember us. What are we, Lord, so frail and weak that you should be mindful of us? You who created the heavens and the earth, who put the stars in their places, who governs the course of the planets. Lord, you are mindful. You think about us and you bless us. We don't deserve such an amazing grace. Father, we praise you for you are good. All your works are good, and you are good to us. In Jesus' name, amen. Well, may the Lord bless you today as you meditate and think upon the goodness of God and how he has blessed you with every good and perfect gift in Jesus Christ. And I'll see you tomorrow. Bye.
