Philippians 3:1-16

Wonderful. Well, good afternoon. Good afternoon. Welcome to Coffee and devotions. This where every day you and I we get together we get into God's word, and we grow in our love for the Lord together and this year 2022 will make it from the book of Acts to the book of Fae Lehmann, Lord willing. Well, I was planning on doing this this morning, but Nathan woke up crazy early. We had a late night last night and so I, I told him he needed to go back to bed, and he would with tears asking to still do coffee and devotion. So I hope you'll put up with us doing it in the afternoon rather than the morning. But why don't we go ahead and we'll pray and we'll get into God's word. And I think we have some other people joining us for devotions a day two, let's pray. Father, we thank you so much for this day. We thank You for Your Word. And we pray for that as we read your word now that you would care for us or do we need you to be our teacher? We need you to instruct us to enlighten our eyes please father work in our hearts in Jesus's name, Amen. All right, so we're at Philippians chapter three. Okay, try to do this without hitting the microphones all over the place. I don't joke No, no, we're gonna get coffee and devotions done this time. Okay. Philippians chapter three, and we'll do the first 16 verses. So I'm going to read and then we're going to talk about Okay. All right. Finally, my brethren Rejoice in the Lord. For me to write the same things to you is not tedious. But for you. It is safe. Beware of dogs beware. Of Evil workers. Beware of the mutilation. For we are the circumcision who worship God in the Spirit. rejoice in Christ Jesus and have no confidence in the flesh. Though I also might have confidence in the flesh if anyone else thinks you may have confidence in the flesh, I'm more so Circumcised the eighth day of the stock of Israel of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews concerning the law, a Pharisee Concerning zeal, persecuting the church concerning the righteousness which is in the law. blameless. But what things are gained to me these I have counted loss for Christ. Yeah, indeed, I also count all things loss for the exceeding for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus, my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things. And count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having my own righteousness which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith, that I may know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if by any means I may attain to the resurrection from the dead, not that I have already obtained attained or am already perfected, but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me, rather than I do not count myself to have apprehended, but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things, which are ahead, I press towards the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Therefore, let us as many are as mature Have this mind. And if anything you think any one anything you think otherwise God will reveal this in you. Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule. Let us be of the same mind Daniel, you look tired already. Well, we need to ask ourselves three questions a what is this? About? B, what's the best verse to summarize it and see what are we called to do? Good. So there's two sections here. They're both tied together, but verses one through 11 and then 12 through 16. What is Paul tell us in verse one we ought to do we should rejoice in who? In the Lord rejoice in who? Daniel in the Lord rejoice in naptime. No, Rejoice in the Lord. Rejoice in the Lord. And He tells us to be careful. Who should we be careful about in verse two of evil dark dogs, evil doers. Beware of the mutilation, people who say you become a Christian, if you are circumcised if you follow the whole law. But is that is that where Paul puts his trust? No, not at all. Right? He he says he was circumcised the eighth day. What tribe was he from? Was he from Judah? He was from Benjamin. What about for zeal? What did he do as a Jewish person? What do you do as a Jewish person? Concerning zeal, verse six. Everyone doesn't say here Concerning zeal, he persecuted the church. And according to righteousness, I could come by the law. What about that? blameless he was blameless, but he looks at all of that everything he's done in the flesh, everything that he could have earned and what is he counted as rubbish? You know, it sounds rubbish here in the New King James, you know what this is? Is like dirty diapers sitting in the trash can for underneath a hot summer sun for a week and a half. That's it he says scuba lon Yeah, yeah, it's like dirty diapers in the trash can in the hot sun for a week he's or the aura dead rabbit decaying under the porch right this is gross. Yuck caca. Right? And he says, that's what my own righteousness is like. And so he says, I have yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of who? Christ, Christ. That's right, Christ. Are you done? Yawning oh, you should be done yawning and more listening. Yeah, there's more questions to be answered. For the excellent so the knowledge of Christ. Oh, no more yawning. Right. For the for the for the sake of Christ. So do we trust our own righteousness that comes from the law? What righteousness Do we trust in the righteousness that comes by Christ? And so he says, Would you like to go play instead of doing coffee and devotions? You want to sleep? Well just put your head down then right? He wants them to have faith in Christ, to know the power of the resurrection to be united to Christ. And so as this does Paul, like writing these things again and again, actually says you know what, it doesn't bother me, because I want you to be safe. He says it's not troublesome for me to write this to you again and again. Is it do you guys think it's, it gets tiresome for daddy to preach the gospel every week? But do I need to preach the same exact it's same exact passage? Like, yeah, but the point is, is that I never get tired of preaching the gospel and Paul never gets tired of pointing people to Jesus. Right. And so Oh, I don't think people want to hear your moans. Okay. Everybody says he is he perfect? Verse 12. No, but does that give him an excuse to become lazy in his faith? No. No, no, what is he What is he talking about the Christian life as What picture do you think he uses in 13 and 14? He's reaching forward to the things that are ahead. Yeah, like like a runner running a race? That's right. Yeah. He's run. Keep pressing. Keep going. Keep going, keep going. Keep going. Because at the end of the race, who do you get to see? You get to see Christ? You get to see Jesus. Yeah, right. Yeah, it's Jesus at the end. Alright, so he says, Let us keep on running. Keep pressing on. You guys are at the beginning of your race. Do we have people in the church who are closer to the end? But you know what? Maybe for some of you, it's not the beginning. Daddy's reading a book right now where a boy died at 20 years old. Are we guaranteed tomorrow? No. Don't teach us to number our days right. Jesus tells us brothers who don't believe in me says today. Today is the day BELIEVE IN JESUS NOW. Trust in him now. Well, Mom, we get home and mom says well, what do you guys read and coffee and devotions? What are you going to tell her and what was that about? So Deborah, Mommy gets home and she says so what are you going to do since you read that? passage in the Bible? What would you say? How does this How does it call you to live your life? Stay strong in your faith. Stay strong in your faith. What about you Baba? You can quiz perseverance and you can keep on doing the good keep going on do good things Yeah, cuz if you keep running the race keep keep running the race eventually by your own work shall be saved. No no, no. Only by faith in Jesus only by faith in Jesus. I am the Way the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me except through me. That's right, good. Well, keep running the race. Keep pressing on for the Ford prize which is in Christ Jesus. Don't trust in your own righteousness. Not worth anything. dirty diapers in the sun.
