God Cares for All

Hey, hey, good morning, good morning. Welcome to Coffee and Devotions. This morning we are at Numbers chapter 36. Congratulations. If you've been watching through this year, you have made it through now the Book of Numbers. We are at the very last chapter of the Book of Numbers. I know it's taken us half a year to get through the Book of Numbers, but we are finally here. So we're going to wrap up the inheritance section of the end of the Book of Numbers.
Let's have some coffee. We'll pray. We'll get into God's word. Lord, we thank you so much that this morning you have given us the blessing of being able to read your word. Lord, we pray that you would please help us. We pray that we would understand it. We pray that it would instruct us. We pray that we would know your ways and learn about you because of it. We pray these things in Jesus's name. Amen. All right. So Numbers chapter 36, Numbers chapter 36. Here we go.
Now the chief fathers of the families of the children of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of the sons of Joseph, came near and spoke before Moses, before the leaders, the chief fathers of the children of Israel. And they said, the Lord commanded my Lord Moses to give the land as an inheritance by lot to the children of Israel. And my Lord was commanded by the Lord to give the inheritance of our brother Zelophehad to his daughters.
Now if they are married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the children of Israel, then their inheritance will be taken from the inheritance of our fathers, and it will be added to the inheritance of the tribes into which they marry. So it will be taken from the lot of our inheritance. And when the jubilee of the children of Israel comes, then their inheritance will be added to the inheritance of the tribe into which they marry. So their inheritance will be taken away from me, away from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers.
Then Moses commanded the children of Israel, according to the word of the Lord, saying, What the tribe of the sons of Joseph speaks is right. This is what the Lord commands regarding the daughters of Zelophehad. saying, Let them marry whom they think best.
But they may marry only within the family of their father's tribe. So the inheritance of the children of Israel shall not change hands from tribe to tribe. 21 Every one of the children of Israel shall keep the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers, and every daughter who possesses an inheritance in any tribe of the children of Israel shall be the wife of one of the family of her father's tribe. so that the children of Israel may each possess the inheritance of his fathers. Thus no inheritance shall change hands from one tribe to another, but every tribe of the children of Israel shall keep its own inheritance.
Just as the Lord commanded Moses, so did the daughters of Zelophehad. For Mahala, Tirza, Hogla, Milka, and Noah, the daughters of Zelophehad, were married to the sons of their father's brothers. They were married into the families of the children of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained in the tribe of their father's family. These are the commandments and the judgments which the Lord commanded the children of Israel by the hand of Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho." Well, we need to ask ourselves our three questions. A, what is this about? B, what's the best verse to summarize this? And C, what are we called to do? So, A, what is this about? Well, remember a while back we had looked at this man, Zelophehad.
He doesn't have any sons. And the girls come to him, he's got four daughters, and they say, hey, this isn't fair. Our dad's name is going to die, right? We're not going to have any inheritance. And the Lord says, nope, you ladies get the inheritance. Well, now the family says the land's being talked about being divided up and where the borders are going to be. The family comes and they say, well, Moses, we got a question. Hold on. If the ladies get inheritance and we, yeah, we, we're cool with that. What happens if they marry someone? Let's say, let's say marry somebody from Dan, right? Is now the man up in Dan gonna have the inheritance from these daughters of Zelophehad? It seems like the land should be switching the families if it's a permanent inheritance by the tribe. Moses takes us to the Lord and the Lord says, yeah, you're right. So here's how this is fixed, right?
If they want to keep their inheritance, Any woman who has their inheritance needs to marry within her own tribe, right? So if she's from the tribe of Asher, she needs to marry somebody from the tribe of Asher, if she wants to keep that inheritance, because the land belongs in large part to the tribe. So it shouldn't be switching from tribe to tribe. If she's from the tribe of Judah, she needs to find a husband from the people of Judah. If she's from the family of Issachar, find a husband from the family of Issachar. If she's from the family of Manasseh, So that's kind of the point here, right? It's tied to the inheritance of these land rights and the land not being passed from tribe to tribe.
So that's what this is about. Well, what's the best verse to summarize this? I think in my Bible, I would say verse 12, they were married into families of the children of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained in the tribe of their father's family.

This is one of those more difficult ones right because We don't live in ancient Israel. The land isn't moving from tribe to tribe like that anymore I'm not even sure in Israel. They've the modern-day Israel. There's anything like this anymore but The maybe, if I was to pull any type of general equity principle out, right?
Ladies got a right to land, right? They've got a right to their own inheritance. They have a right to property. And there's a sense of equity that happens here because God is a God who is of order. And he's got a system. He's the one who's making these things so. So there's a place for the women in the society.
God doesn't leave us without inheritance. He looks after both men and women. He cares for the entire Israelite society. And we can think about that in the church today, that God doesn't just care about the men. He cares about the church. He cares about his people. He cares about his children. And so even today there's people who will try to say, oh, the Bible is just so chauvinistic and things like this, but no. No, right?
The Lord cares about all of his children. The Lord loves his children. The Lord takes notice of both man and woman. Jesus Christ came. He redeemed us. Each one of us who believe great and small. most important and least important. That doesn't matter in the eyes of Christ. He's no respecter of men. He loves whom he chooses to love. And he keeps us.
And we know that our inheritance is Jesus Christ himself. So let's pray. Father, we thank you so much. that you have given us a godly inheritance. You've given us your own son. You've promised us the kingdom. Lord, how gracious and wonderful are you? Lord, we pray that you would please help us to trust in you. We pray that you would let us be a people of equity and of justice, but also of mercy and love. We pray these things in Jesus's name. Amen. Well, may the God who has promised you Jesus Christ also reassure your heart that if he freely gave you Jesus Christ, how will he not also give you all things? May you trust him, love him and find the peace that comes from him. I'll see you next time. Bye.
