Daily Devotions: Exploring Numbers 34 and God's Promises

Hey, hey, good morning. Good morning. Welcome to coffee and devotions is where every weekday morning you and I we get together We have a little bit of coffee. We get into God's Word and we grow and I love for Lord together this year 2024 We're going we're gonna make it through numbers Deuteronomy and Hebrews. We are almost done with the book of Numbers and this morning we're at numbers chapter 39 verses no, no, no, no, there's no numbers 39 numbers 30 and or numbers 34 versus 16 through 29. There you go. Numbers 34, 16 through 29. We're not talking about who's the one representing each tribe as they are going to be dividing up the land.
All right, let's have some coffee. We'll pray. We'll get into God's word. Let's pray. Father, we thank you so much for this day. What a joy it is and a blessing it is to get to read your word. Lord, we pray that as we read your word this morning, you would help us to understand. We pray that you would bring light to our eyes and joy to our hearts. Please, Lord, help us. We need your spirit in Jesus's name. Amen. Here we go.
Numbers chapter 34, beginning at verse 16. And the Lord spoke to Moses saying, these are the names of the men who shall divide the land among you as an inheritance. Eliezer, the priest and Joshua, the son of none. Right. So you have the priest and you have the leader. These two guys are going to do the main and the rest of it. What's going to happen is we're going to have the tribe and then the leader of the tribe and then the leader. So let's start into that. And you shall take one leader from every tribe to divide the land for the inheritance. These are the names of the men. Now, just so you know, I'm probably going to struggle with some of these names, but that's okay.
From the tribe of Judah, Caleb, the son of Jephunneh. From the tribe of the children of Simeon, Shemuel, the son of Amihud. From the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad, the son of Shishlon, a leader from the tribe of the children of Dan. Buki, the son of Jogli. From the son of Joseph, a leader from the tribe of the children of Manasseh. Haniel, the son of Ephod, and a leader from the tribe of the children of Ephraim. Kimuel, the son of Shiptan, a leader from the tribe of the children of Zebulun. Elisaphon, the son of Parnach. A leader from the tribe of the children of Issachar. Paltiel, the son of Azan. A leader from the tribe of the children of Asher. Ahihud, the son of Shalomi. and a leader from the tribe of the children of Naphtali, Padahel, Pedahel, the son of Amihud.
These are the ones the LORD commanded to divide the inheritance among the children of Israel in the land of Canaan. All right. Well, we need to ask ourselves our three questions a what's this about B? What's the best verse to summarize this and see what are we called to do? So as there are right on the other side of the Jordan River, they're ready to enter into Canaan proper They're gonna go and and go into battle and receive the inherited land that the Lord had promised God's already saying hey look All right, the check is good.
You might as well, right, you can start counting your chickens before the egg is hatched, right? You can go ahead and start dividing up the land. You're gonna know who's gonna be who, and when you do that, right, when you go in, well, they're actually not gonna divide the land until later in the book of Joshua. Actually, the second half of the book of Joshua is a lot of just the dividing of the land.
But as you talk about specifically these guys, who's going to do that dividing? Well, these are the leading men from each of these tribes. These are the ones that the Lord is saying, that man, that man, that man, that man, right? These are the guys who's going to do it. It's going to be led by Eleazar and Joshua, right?
The high priest and the leader. and then after that all these different leaders from the nine and a half tribes so that's what this is about and what's the best verse to summarize this in my bible i would say verse 16 Or maybe you might say, or not verse 16, sorry, 17, or you might be able to say verse 18. I'd let you debate about that. Let me know down in the comments what you would do, 17 or 18. Well, the last thing we need to do is seek calling. What are we called to do?
Well, we know that the Lord has given us a good inheritance. The one who has determined our inheritance is Jesus Christ himself. And it is Jesus Christ who will give to us as He sees fit. But most of all, He's given us His Son. Our inheritance is not just all things, but most of all, He's given us His Son, Jesus Christ. He's given us His kingdom.
This is one of the beautiful things, right? Now I'm entering into the land of Canaan, which is the foretaste of what God has promised even bigger and better in the New Testament. As Jesus Christ has come to establish a kingdom, And as we look forward, we pray, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, right? We look forward to that great day when Jesus is going to come again and he is going to establish his kingdom in righteousness.
We look forward to the day when we have our inheritance. When we can, when it's not just a promise to us, but it's real to us. We have certain tastes of it now. We're more like those Israelites in the wilderness. We've got better experiences than them because of Jesus. We've got better promises, but yet we're still waiting also. But we know, we know that God's good at His promises. We know that He's going to keep His covenant. And we know that He's given us His Son. And if all the different promises were underwhelming, having Jesus, just having Jesus would be enough.
Let's pray. We thank You so much that You have given us Your Son, Jesus Christ. Lord, we pray. that as we walk in our lives, that we would love your son, that we would love you, and that we would know that all of your gifts to us are good. Lord, we pray that you would teach us to follow after you and to walk in your ways. We pray these things in Jesus's name. Amen. May the Lord bless you as you look forward to the inheritance that he has stored up for you. And may you know that even the good things you taste in this life are just an appetizer to all the good things he has in store for you. I'll see you next time. Bye.
