Numbers 33:1-37

Good morning. Good morning. Welcome to coffee and devotions this where this morning we're gonna look at numbers chapter 33 verses 1 through 37 make sure I get those numbers straight in my brain numbers chapter 33 verses 1 through 37 We're gonna look at a kind of a recap of all the different travels Through the wilderness that the Israelites were doing. So let's have some coffee.
We'll pray and we'll get into God's Word Well, I'm having tea this morning. My voice is still messing up. It's sounding a little bit odd, isn't it? Yeah, so I'm gonna have some herbal tea with a little bit of honey in it to try to help my voice. All right, you ready to pray? Okay, let's pray. Father, we thank you so much for this day. Thank you for your word. And God, we plead with you that you would help us to understand. We need you, we need your Holy Spirit to teach us this morning. In Jesus' name we pray, amen. Alright, so we are at Numbers chapter 33 verses 1 through 37. Here we go, Dan.
These are the journeys of the children of Israel who went out of the land of Egypt by their armies under the hand of Moses and Aaron. Now Moses wrote down the starting points of their journeys at the command of the Lord. And these are their journeys according to their starting points. They departed from Ramses, you wanna read?
First month, 15th day, first month. After Passover, the children of Israel with boldness in the sight of all the Egyptians. For the Egyptians were burying all their firstborn, whom the Lord had killed among them. Also on their gods, the Lord had executed judgments." Isn't that interesting? It's saying at the Passover, God was not just judging the Egyptians, but he was also judging their gods.
Then the children of Israel moved from Ramses and camped at Succoth. Succoth is a place. So they went from Ramses to Succoth. Did they leave people at Israel? Well, Israel wasn't a place yet. Israel was a people. Yeah. Did they? I don't know. Maybe maybe only if people wanted to stay with the Egyptian gods, but then would they really be Israelites? No, they departed from Sukkoth and then camped at Etham which is on the edge of the wilderness They moved from Etham and turned back to P higher off a hero Which is east of balls the fun. I And they camp near Megiddo or Migdol, sorry. Yeah, not Megiddo. Megiddo is in Israel. No, not mosquitoes and Megiddo. We're talking about Migdol.
They departed from before Ahiroth and passed through the midst of the sea into the wilderness. Went three days journey in the wilderness of Etham and camped at Mara. They moved from Mara and came to Elim. At Elim were 12 springs of water and 70 palm trees, so they camped there. They moved from Alem and camped by the Red Sea. They moved from the Red Sea and camped in the wilderness of sin.
How do you think they went across the Red Sea? Nope, they didn't go around it. They went through it. How do you think they went through the Red Sea? Remember the story of Moses parting the Red Sea? Well, it's not actually red. I've been in the Red Sea. It's not actually red. Yeah, it's not actually red. That's just what it's called. OK, so so they can't near they can't buy the Red Sea, so they hear it. It's not actually saying they went through it. They can't buy it. They went through the Red Sea earlier. OK.
They move from the Red Sea and camped in the wilderness of sin. They journeyed from the wilderness of sin and camped at Dovah. Sin. Yeah, sin is so so it's just the name for it. It doesn't mean the place itself is sin. Yeah. So it's kind of like the woods or the desert. OK. They departed from Dofka and camped at Alash. They moved from Alash and camped at Refedim. You know. Where there was no water for the people to drink. No water. They were eating manna in the wilderness, but they didn't have water to drink. But the Lord gave them water there as well as Maribon.
They departed from Rephidim and camped in the wilderness of Sinai. Nope, they drink from the rock that God had brought water from they moved from the wilderness of Sinai and camped at your broth hotava They departed from cure broth hotava and camped at Hazaroth They departed from Hazaroth and camped at Rithma.
They departed from Rithma and camped at Ramon Perez Yep, Moses isn't going to get to see the promised land. They departed from Ramon Perez and camped at Libna. They moved from Libna and camped at Rissa. They journeyed from Rissa and camped at Kehalatha.
Yeah, they went from Kehalatha and camped at Mount Sefir. They moved from Mount Sefir and they camped at Harada. They moved from Harada and camped at Macheloth. They departed from Macheloth and camped at Tahath. They departed from Tahath and camped at Terah. They moved from Terah and they camped at Mithka. They went from Mithka and they camped at Hashmonah. They departed from Hashmonah and they camped at Maseroth.
They departed from Maseroth and camped at Bene-Jachin. They moved from Bene-Jakan and camped at Hor-Hagigad. They went from Hor-Hagigad and camped at Jos-Bathan. They moved from Jothbatha and camped at Abrona. They departed from Abrona and camped at Ezion-Geber. They moved from Ezion-Geber and camped in the wilderness of Zin, which is Kadesh.
Zin. Zin. They moved from Kadesh and camped at Mount Hoar. Hoar. H-O-A-R. It's horrid. On the boundary of the land of Eden. All right, so we're going to stop there. So what do you think this passage is about? What is this passage about? Well, that's not mentioned here, but Moses is told by God to mark everywhere that they, everywhere that they would. Yeah.
Everywhere that they walked, right, where they started and where they went. Right, so does it sound like they had a bunch of moves or only like one or two? A bunch. They had a bunch of moves, right? They had to go here and here and here and here and here, right? All these different places and all these different places. There's a whole bunch of them. And then they had to walk 40 days. Oh no, 40 years. And then they had to go all the way back. And then they went to the park.
Yep, we're not in the promised land yet. They're near it, at the border with Edom, but they aren't in the promised land yet. Long time wandering, isn't it? So what do you so I'm the next thing we have to talk about is what is the best verse to summarize this section I think I would choose verse 1 and 2 These are the journeys of the children of Israel who went out of the land of Egypt by their armies under the hand of Moses and Aaron Moses wrote down the starting points of their journeys the command of the Lord and these are their journeys according to their starting points and Do you remember when we came back from our 15 mile hike when we were in Arkansas?
Yeah, my legs didn't hurt that much. Yep. So your legs were still feeling pretty good. But do you remember how we came home and we told mom about all the different places we saw? Yeah. We told her about this mountain and we told her about West Mountain and we told her about Balance Rock and we told her about the whole Sun Peak. We told her about the different peaks and the things we saw and the things that were interesting. And the things that weren't that interesting. We told her about when we went to North Mountain. Remember that? Yeah. And remember when we told her how we got to Goat Rock? And remember when we told her about Goat Rock wasn't that cool. Yeah, Goat Rock wasn't that cool. But Music Mountain wasn't that cool. You didn't like Music Mountain either? What about when we walked down Gulf of Gorge?
That was interesting. That was interesting. So places, right? Do you think everybody knows the names of those places? Nope. Nope, but do they mean something to you? Yeah, why do they mean something to you but not to somebody else in the church or somebody else watching this video? Yeah, so they didn't go the whole trail but did you do you know about these places nope No clue.
Why? Because a big part in the Red Sea would be fun. Yeah, that might that might be a part. Right. But you don't know this trail. You don't know where they went. And so for you, it's a little bit difficult to pay attention. But for them, was this a big deal? It only took us eight hours just to walk. It took them 20 years.
Yeah. Right. That was the longest trail in existence. But the point is, right, it meant something to them. Yeah, because they did it. Yeah. Yeah. Do you think God forgot about them in the wilderness those 40 years? Nope. Yeah. Why don't his mom? That's right. That's right. Right. The Lord watches over them.
I think that's what I would go with. See calling. Sometimes we may feel like, has God forgotten us? I feel like I've been on this journey a long time and I don't seem to be going where I think the Lord wants me to go. We're finally home. Yeah. Does the Lord know how to bring us home? Yep. I could have run 25 miles. You think you could have gone 25 miles? I think your little legs would have fallen off and your feet would have had blisters. No, because the five miles didn't feel like it.
Oh, OK. Well, the Lord watches over his people, doesn't he? Yep. And my feet didn't hold on the five miles. That's right. Did God abandon his people in the wilderness? Nope. Will he abandon you? No. No. Right. Because God doesn't abandon his people. You're praying. OK.
God, we thank you so much that we know that this story is true. We know that it's a historical record. And we thank you for remembering your people and for remembering us. Lord, we pray that you would please let us trust you as you guide us through all of life. In Jesus's name, we pray. Amen. May God bless you as you follow his leading. May you be obedient to his call.
