Scripture Passage

The Portion of Aaron and His Sons

28 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 29 “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘He who offers the sacrifice of his peace offering to the Lord shall bring his offering to the Lord from the sacrifice of his peace offering. 30 His own hands shall bring the offerings made by fire to the Lord. The fat with the breast he shall bring, that the breast may be waved as a wave offering before the Lord. 31 And the priest shall burn the fat on the altar, but the breast shall be Aaron’s and his sons’. 32 Also the right thigh you shall give to the priest as a heave offering from the sacrifices of your peace offerings. 33 He among the sons of Aaron, who offers the blood of the peace offering and the fat, shall have the right thigh for his part. 34 For the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the heave offering I have taken from the children of Israel, from the sacrifices of their peace offerings, and I have given them to Aaron the priest and to his sons from the children of Israel by a statute forever.’ ”

35 This is the consecrated portion for Aaron and his sons, from the offerings made by fire to the Lord, on the day when Moses presented them to minister to the Lord as priests. 36 The Lord commanded this to be given to them by the children of Israel, on the day that He anointed them, by a statute forever throughout their generations.

37 This is the law of the burnt offering, the grain offering, the sin offering, the trespass offering, the consecrations, and the sacrifice of the peace offering, 38 which the Lord commanded Moses on Mount Sinai, on the day when He commanded the children of Israel to offer their offerings to the Lord in the Wilderness of Sinai.

The New King James Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), Le 7:28–38.

hey hey good morning good morning welcome to coffee and devotions it's so good to be with you this morning this is where every day you and I we get together have a little bit coffee get into God's word and we grow in our love for the Lord together and this year 2023 we'll make it from Genesis through Leviticus Lord willing why don't we have some coffee we'll pray and we'll wrap up Leviticus chapter 7 let's pray father you are gracious and loving abounding and kindness and you are the one who gives us your holy spirit so father we pray that you would teach us guide us and lead us into all truth today help us father we pray as we get into your word in Jesus's name amen all right let's go ahead and open up our Bibles we are wrapping up Leviticus 7 Leviticus 7: 28 and following then the Lord spoke to Moses saying speak to the children of Israel saying he who offers the sacrif rice of his peace offering to the Lord shall bring his offering to the Lord from the sacrifice of his peace offering his own hands shall bring the offerings made by fire to the Lord the fat with the breast he shall bring and the breast may be waved as a wave offering before the Lord and the priest and the priest shall burn the fat on the altar but the breast shall be Aaron and his sons also the right thigh you shall give to the priest as a heave offering from the sacrifices of your peace offerings he among the sons of Aaron who offers the blood of the peace offering and the fat shall have the right thigh for his part for the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the heave offering I have taken from the children of Israel from the sacrifices of their peace offerings and I have given them to Aaron the priest and to to his sons from the children of Israel Israel by a statute forever this I have consecrated this is the consecrated portion for Aaron and his sons from the offerings made by fire to the Lord on the day when Moses presented them to minister to the Lord as priests the Lord commanded this to be given to them by the children of Israel on the day he anointed them by a statute forever throughout their Generations this is a law of the burnt offering the grain offering the sin offering the trespass offering the consecrations and the sacrifice of the peace offering which the Lord commanded Moses on Mount siani on the day when he commanded the children of Israel to offer their offerings to the Lord in the wilderness of siani well we need to ask ourselves a what's this about B what's the best verse to summarize us and C what are we called to do in response to this so what's this passage about well really it's a summary of what's come before it right all the different offerings are kind of wrapped up together here this is the end of these prescriptive sections of the offerings and now what we're finding out is the Lord is saying Aaron gets the thigh and the breast that's his portion forever why because he's the one who made on priests it was his choice that that's what they're going to get but they got to do it in the way that is pleasing to him because he's commanded it he commanded it to Moses he gave it to him and to be passed down generation to generation to Generation Now what's the best verse to summarize this well in my Bible I have verse 29 underlined I also have verse 38 underlined let me know down in the comments what would what would you what would you underline as the best ver ver the summarizes full last seek calling what are we called to do we don't have a sacrificial system [Music] anymore for that sake we don't have an Earthly high priest anymore there's no son of Aaron who's perpetually offering sacrifices there's no son of Phineas who does this there's there's no there's no one doing this anymore so why do we even read these things because they were all meant to point us to Jesus Christ see we have a high priest who is not of the order of Aaron but of the order of melkisedek who has a priesthood forever when it says here that Aaron and his sons were this was appointed as by a statute throughout their Generations it was as long as their Generations were going on but a greater high priest would come his name is Jesus Christ who is our peace offering who is our guilt offering who is our sin offering who is our only hope all of this was meant to point to the fact that while this is a great ritual it's great ceremony it has great severity and shows the Holiness of God and the grace of his Redemption all these amazing pictures they're realized in the person and work of Jesus and so trust in him for he cares for you let's pray father we thank you so much for the hope that we have in Jesus Christ Lord we pray that you would please let us trust you for you so Lov the world that you did not even spare your own son but you took the unblemished land and have offered him up as a full offering for our sins we're thankful we're thankful to you for giving us a risen high priest who lives forever it's in Jesus's name our high priest's name amen well may you have faith in that high priest may you take comfort in his priesthood and may you know that he follows you with his love all your life I'll see
