Scripture Passage
Leviticus 25:35-38 Lending to the Poor
35 ‘If one of your brethren becomes poor, and falls into poverty among you, then you shall help him, like a stranger or a sojourner, that he may live with you. 36 Take no usury or interest from him; but fear your God, that your brother may live with you. 37 You shall not lend him your money for usury, nor lend him your food at a profit. 38 I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan and to be your God.
The New King James Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), Le 25:35–38.
A — About
What Is This Passage About?

Because God is rich in mercy and generous toward us, be generous rather than stingy toward people in need. Give wisely, seek their real good, and store treasure in heaven.

oh good morning good morning good morning welcome to coffee and devotions this where every day you and I we get together we have a little bit of coffee you want some coffee you want to try my coffee oh okay we have a little bit of coffee we get into God's word and we grow in our love for the Lord together and this year you like it and this year 2023 Lord willing we'll make it from Genesis through Leviticus let's have some coffee we'll pray we'll get into God's word are you going to drink all my coffee oh you oh you're a coffee bum it's like good at the first taste and then it's B but it's good and a little bitter that's what it's supposed to be okay let's pray God we thank you so much for this day we thank you for your word and we pray now that you would please help us to understand it please apply it to our lives we need your Holy Spirit in Jesus's name amen okay so Leviticus 25 and we only have a few verses today okay you ready danan mhm okay can you scoot this scoot the other way there you go this way this way yep here we go if one of your brethren becomes poor and falls into poverty among you then you shall help him like a stranger or a Sojourner that he may live with you take no Usery or interest from him but fear your God that your brother may live with you you shall not lend him your money for Usery nor lend him your food at profit I am Jehovah your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt to give you the land of Canaan and to be your God do you know what interest or Usery is interest or us so they use a thing and you and they and you ohow them and they owe you yeah so so they give you something they owe you plus more right and so God says if somebody's poor and falls into poverty guess what don't lend them a bunch of money they can't pay back don't try to make money off of poor people right so might make money off of super rich people well yeah but here it's saying right um when it's the poor person right take no Usery or interest from him but fear your God that your brother may live with you why do why do you think God why do you here let's turn this way so we can see each other why do you think God doesn't want them to charge interest or you or Usery to the poor people among them because they don't have anything that's the only thing they live up exactly and so you shouldn't give a whole bunch of money to poor people cuz what what do you think it does then they have to pay back twice as much and they'll like oh no exactly and it just keeps them even more poor more more in debt more poor and is that going to love them is that going to care for them so if you are going to give them money what do you do you say we give you money and you don't have to P well either you try to pay it back or I'm going to give it to you and you just pay it back when you want well maybe not whatever you whenever you want but like uh pay it back in a year and in a year and you just need to pay back the same amount but if they don't pay it back you know what God's telling the people who he has given a lot to saying I've given you a lot I've given you the land I've redeemed you I've given you this good life so when you're going to give money to somebody poor like that in your own heart guess what you should do just consider it a gift and if they come back in a few years yeah I don't think I have enough money yet but I'll pay you back you can keep it's fine well maybe do you think that's an easy thing to do or a hard thing to do uh it's a hard thing that's a very hard thing to do feeling hard pinch pinch like last night yeah I feel like I need to need to that's right right we we talked about that trail life we need to be Men of Honor right we need to keep our word not like give me the money now yeah I know it said too much but forget yeah right that's not what the Lord wants us to do he wants us to remember the poor and to have pity does God remember the poor were we poor we were we didn't have a single well I I mean morally oh yeah we didn't have a single scent of righteousness right we didn't have any of it but yet God has given us eternal life he's given us 25 25 more yeah he's given us an infinite amount of of life right eternal life life Everlasting he's given us a kingdom that never ends and it's a price and who paid the price that's right but we it's not like save we can do anything we can sin we can do Noe that's not what it means you need to try but you can't say I can s all no no no but the point is right in this life how should you think about the poor should you be like oh those stupid greedy nasty stinky poor people I don't want anything to do with 20 bucks right lend freely give generously care for those because has God given a lot to us oh yeah oh if a a person and comes up saying I want one cent say he has 20 bucks oh that'd be generous but need to make it you need to know they not taking drugs well yeah that might be a good idea right Mom and daddy don't actually give money to anybody uh but say hey what you need what you need yeah right you can give them food you can give them um well here it says that they can give them money right but the point being is that you're right in a day and age like ours we have a policy in our family we'll buy them food we'll pay their rent we'll get them tires for their car or a hotel room give them an orange but we don't want to just give them money if they go but that's just what I want and throws it into a bush yeah I've told you that story huh like I don't think they actually will P they don't want anything except jks yeah so you have to use wisdom in in giving to the poor but the point being is you're not to think little of them right they are human beings created in the image of God and we're to love them because God has loved us yeah who knows maybe someday we'll be poor again that could happen right then we would have to sell lady we would have to sell lady we couldn't afford dog food then and we wanted athority in this house we're going a long way away from the text now but the point is is God good is God good to us so can we be good to others yeah okay let's pray father we thank you so much that you are rich in Mercy abounding In Loving kindness thank you so much for your generosity and love towards us Lord we pray that we would be those who would be generous with others not stingy not uh saving up in this life for moth and rust to destroy but Lord we pray that our Treasures would be in heaven and our love would be before you in Jesus's name we pray amen can I have some coffee you want to say goodbye and
