Jeremiah 22:24-30

Hey, hey, good morning. Good morning. Welcome to coffee and devotions this morning. We are at Jeremiah chapter 22 24 to the end of the chapter. And so, let's have some coffee. We'll pray. We'll get into God's word. Let's pray. Father, we thank you so much for this day. We thank you for your word and we pray that as we read your word, your Holy Spirit would instruct us and lead us. Help us, God, to understand, believe, and live in Jesus's name. Amen. All right. Ready? Jeremiah chapter 22. How about I read the first part and then you read the second part. >> As I live, says the Lord. Though Kunaniah, that's Jehoakin. Though Kona Kunaniah, the son of Jehoakim, king of Judah, were the signant on my right hand. Yet I would pluck you off and I will give you into the hand of those who seek your life and into the hand of those who fear and into the hand of those whose face you fear, the hand of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and the hand of the Chaldans. So I will cast you out and your mother who bore you into another country where you were not born and there you shall die. You reading with me? All right, let's keep going. But to the land to which they desire to return, they shall not return. >> Is this land? Oh, >> and the sis >> a despised >> broke. >> No, no, no. Come on. Put your finger there. You can >> say two. >> Oh, well, read that first word first. >> Broken. >> Mhm. Idol. >> A vessel. >> And which is a pleasure? Well, not a pleasure. >> No pleasure. >> Pleasure. >> Why are they cast out of she and his >> descendants >> and cast into the land? >> Slow down. And >> cast into a land which they do not know. >> You want to read the next one? I think you can. Oh, oath. Hear the word of the Lord. >> Oh, you're doing great. Keep going. >> Thus says the Lord, right? The man. >> Slow down. Put your finger. Slow down. You can do it, buddy. You're doing great. >> Oh, it write this man down as a child. >> Not as a child. As >> ill child. >> Childless. childless. >> A man who shall not possess >> pro. No, see you guessed in red. No, no, no. Go back. Go slow. Pro. >> Yeah. A man who shall not prosper >> in his for [Music] none. For his >> none. No. No. Four. For none. For none of his descendants shall prosper or sitting on the throne of David and only >> little compound word [Music] >> and >> what's >> anymore >> anymore >> in Judah. >> Dude, you just read three verses in a row. All right. So, but now we have to ask ourselves A, >> what is about B? What's the best us to summary? And C, what are we? >> So, what was it about this whole thing about Jeconiah? >> And it's not Jeaniah, Jehoachin. >> He's not going to prosper. >> No, he's not going to prosper. Instead, he's going to go where? >> Obam. He does not know. >> Yeah. Exile, right? God's going to give him over to his enemy. King Nebuchadnezzar, he's not going to prosper in his days. None of his descendants will prosper sitting on the throne of David and ruling anymore in Judah. Oh earth, earth, earth, hear the words of the Lord. Man, this is a happy passage, huh? >> I'm not so happy. I >> know. It's pretty hard, huh? Why is Why is this happening? They trust them all. >> Yeah. The people, well, they didn't keep faith with the Lord, did they? They went after idols. They wouldn't listen to the Lord. Yeah. And so the Lord eventually goes, "Okay, no more." Right. He brings judgment on them because of that. So, what do you think is the best verse to summarize this section? [Music] >> I would do verse 30. verse 30. Yeah, I think verse 30 is good. Uh I would probably underline uh verse 21 or sorry, verse 25 and 26. Uh but 30 says it in poetic ways. So that's fine. Uh maybe you would underline something different. That's fine. Uh what about see calling? What do you think this calls you to do? Or how does this point us to Jesus Christ? >> Um to um obey him. Do you think this is all about obedience? Obedience. Obedience. You must obey. You must obey. >> Where's obedience come from? >> God. >> What do you mean obedience comes from God? What's that mean? >> He No, because Jesus was obedient to him. He died on the cross. >> So obedience comes from God because Jesus was obedient. >> So what's that got to do with you? I have I I can try to be obedient with the ten commandments. Obey your father, mother so your day shall go good. >> All right. So So okay, here's my issue. Do you always obey me? >> No. But Jesus died on the cross for us. >> Okay. So God accepts you because of your obedience. You can try to uh do the ten commandments. >> So God accepts you because of your obedience. >> Because you believe in him. >> So here's the fun news. Ready? God accepts you because of Jesus's obedience. Full and complete pardon. justified by Jesus. Hey, that's a huge blessing. So, the Ten Commandments are a helpful guide, a helpful rule for faith in life, right? Like they they help direct us and teach us and lead us, but we're not made right because we obey God's law. But you're right in pointing to Jesus because he perfectly obeyed all of those. And so even though even though this guy that you had a hard time pronouncing his name, Kunaya, even though Kona was going to die because he wasn't following the Lord, who did follow the Lord perfectly? >> Jesus. >> Jesus, right? Jesus says here that Koniah wouldn't have any anyone to sit on the throne of David anymore. But guess who was of that family and did sit on that throne eventually? >> Jesus. >> Jesus. I think that's where this points us to Jesus Christ, right? Because the lion of the tribe of Judah has come. The one who has conquered sin and death, who kept the law perfectly, is our lamb of atonement. >> Your brother paid for it. >> Not your little brother. Your little brother's name is Jim, but no, not him. Some are way better than him. Yeah. So, >> who doesn't bite mom? >> Yeah. Yeah. We got to work on his biting phase to get him out of that. But anyways, I think this just points us to Jesus Christ that way, right? We do have a perfect king who perfectly protects us and has done everything necessary for us to live with God forever. And so because we have a perfect king, >> perfect God, >> we have perfect God, >> have perfect God. >> Yeah. So we can behave perfectly, right? But we can try. >> Yep. >> Not because that perfect obedience is what gets us into heaven, but because Jesus Christ paid for all of our sins. So, all right. You ready to pray? >> You want to pray for us this morning to close? >> You can. >> Okay. God, thank you so much for the blessing that you have given us of your Holy Spirit and for caring for us. Lord, we thank you for giving us our King Jesus Christ who sits on the throne forever and who will someday judge the world with equity. Lord, we thank you that you do take sin seriously. that you take it so seriously that you poured out your wrath upon your son on the cross of Calvary. And Lord, you defeated sin and death by rising again from the dead for our justification. And so God, we thank you for giving us our great high priest, our king. And Lord, we pray that we would follow in his ways out of a love for him in Jesus's name. Amen. Well, you did not first love Jesus, but Jesus loved you. And because Jesus has loved you and poured out this his spirit in your heart, you can cry, "Aba, Father." And so, may the Father in heaven give you peace and may you walk in his ways.
