Hebrews 9:11-15

Hey, hey, good morning, good morning, good morning. Welcome to Coffee and Devotions. This morning, we are at one of the best scriptures in the whole Bible. I'm not joking with that. I love it. I love it. I love it. We're going to talk about Jesus and his sacrifice, his high priesthood and his tabernacle. It's amazing. Let's have some coffee. Father, what a great Blessing and turn from you. What a joy it is. Lord, we pray that you read in Jesus' name. Here we go, we are at Hebrews chapter 9, verses 11 through 15. Hebrews 9, 11 through 15.
But Christ came as high priest of the good things to come. with the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is, not of this creation, not with the blood of goats and calves, but with his own blood he entered the most holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. Or if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling the unclean sanctuaries for the purifying of flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
And for this reason he is the mediator of a new covenant by means of death for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal. amazing passage. We need to ask ourselves, A, what is this about? B, what's the best verse to summarize this? And C, what are we called to do in response to these amazing verses?
Well, A, what is this about Jesus as a better a better priesthood and a better covenant in a better tabernacle. Notice as we go through here, Christ came as a high priest of the good things that come. Out of all the blessings and all the promises of the kingdom of God, Jesus comes as that great high priest with the greater and more perfect tabernacle. The tabernacle that when Moses was on Mount Sinai and the angels were ministering unto him and giving him the pattern of the things that were in heaven, that's where Jesus's tabernacle is. It's a tabernacle that's greater and more perfect, not made with hands, that is not of this creation.
Not going to be polluted. And if you remember, there was about 400 years between the time of Moses when they erect the tabernacle and when you get to David. And by then the tabernacle is in disrepair. Hasn't been upkeep, upkept. It's it's fallen apart and And so there needs to be something new. Not so with Jesus. Not so with the one in heaven. And then notice it goes on.
Jesus, not just with his better tabernacle, but notice also a better sacrifice and priesthood. Verse 12, not with the blood of goats and calves, but with his own blood, he entered the most holy place. So remember the high priest had to offer sacrifices in blood. This is what Nathan and I were looking at in verses six through ten. They could go once a year behind the veil into the holy of holies. But notice Jesus goes in with blood also, but a better sacrifice, his own blood. But notice what it says after this.
He entered the most holy place once for all. Jesus went beyond the veil. Once. All the redeemed, all his elect purchased. Notice what it said here, having obtained eternal redemption. Jesus did redeem us with something perishable, but like silver or gold, but with his very own blood.
What an amazing scene. This is what it's getting at here. For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling the unclean sanctuaries for the purifying the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ? If the Old Testament sacrifices were effectual for their salvation, right, because they by faith offered these sacrifices, how much more for the blood of Jesus? who through the eternal spirit offered himself without spot. outspot and without blemish. One who laid down his life. And notice what this Jesus is able to do. Cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God. Tie that together with verse 9 above.
The Old Testament priests, all their things were symbolic for the present time in which both gifts and sacrifices are offered, which cannot make him who performed the service perfect in regard to conscience. The Old Testament priests couldn't make even their own conscience perfect, but the blood of Jesus is able to cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God. We are no longer slaves to sin. We are no longer burdened in our conscience, because even though the high priest may have at one point made a sacrifice, the very next day he would sin.
And there would have to be a whole new round. And the next year there would have to be another sacrifice and another sacrifice and another sacrifice. The day of atonement was always a year away. When is it going to come? When is the sin finally going to be over? When our conscience is finally going to be clean?
Jesus. in Jesus our conscience are clean because we have been washed by the Spirit through the blood of Christ and for this reason he is the mediator of the new covenant by means of death this is what Jesus was getting at this is the blood of the new covenant this was for the remission of the cleansing of our conscience. That if we confess our sins, He is faithful. He cleanses us of all of our We are in Jesus, that's what this is getting at, for the redemption of transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. And we know that eternal inheritance is safe for us, heaven guarding us before his return. inglorious, full resurrection of the dead, the inheritance gained in Jesus' name, and full. inheritance.
So that's what this is about. What's the best verse? Wow, man, that's really hard. All of this is so amazing. I'm going to say verse 14 and 15. I would do that. What are we called to do?
Rest in Jesus Christ. Receive and rest in him. Rest in his final work. Take comfort in him. When your conscience condemns you, you have one greater than your conscience, the Lord Jesus Christ. Look at Christ. Rest in him. When you wrestle with disappointment and despair, go rest in Christ.
When you sin because you're a sinner and you accidentally, you fall back into those patterns and you go, Oh Lord, I knew better. Go run to Christ. Confess your sins to one another. Go confess your sin to Jesus Christ and find forgiveness for your soul.
Rest in him. He's our hypocrite. He lives to make intercession. He washed joy. God, what an amazing path. It took us years to work through the Pentateuch, but Lord, they were just some types waiting for the fulfillment that would come.
