Exodus 37:17-29

Good morning, good morning. Welcome to Coffee and Devotions. This is where every day you and I, we get together, we have a little bit of coffee, we get into God's Word, and milk or tea. And we get into God's Word and we grow in our love for the Lord together. And this year, 2023, Lord willing, we'll make it from the book of... Genesis to Exodus. No, Leviticus. There you go, Genesis to Leviticus.
Now we have some coffee, we'll pray, and we'll get into Exodus chapter 37. Let's pray. Father, we thank you so much for this day. We thank you for the blessing it is to get to read your word together. And Father, we pray that you would please help us to understand it and that you would apply it to our lives. In Jesus' name, amen. Okay, Exodus chapter 37. We're going to read from 17 to the end of the chapter together. Here we go.
He also made the lampstand of pure gold. of hammered work he made the lampstand. So what's this talking about? The lampstand. The lampstand. Its shaft, its branches, its bowls, its ornamental knobs, and its flowers were of the same piece. Six branches came out of its sides. Three branches of the lampstand out on one side, three branches of the lampstand out on the other side. So what did this lamp stand look like? Almost looks like a tree. Almost looks like a tree, that's right.
There were three bowls made like almond blossoms on one branch with an ornamental knob and a flower, and three bowls made like blossoms on the other branch with an ornamental knob and a flower, and so for the six branches coming out of the lamp stand. Alright, so what's on each one of the branches? Flower and bud. Yeah, a flower and bud, what type of? Like an almond, right? And so that's where they would light the fire, on the lamp stand. Good.
There was a knob under the first two branches of the same, a knob under the second two branches of the same, and a knob under the third two branches of the same, according to the six branches extending from it. Their knobs and their branches were of one piece. All of it was one hammered piece of pure gold. And he made it seven lamps. It's wick trimmers, and it's trays of pure gold. That's right. Of a talent of pure gold, he made it with all of its utensils. So what did Bezalel make?
Gold. It's a tree, but it's the lamp stand. Yeah, the golden lamp stand. Good. Well he also made the incense altar of what type of wood do you think he made it of? Acacia wood. That's right. It's length was a cubit and it's width was a cubit. It was square. And two cubits was it's height. Hmm. Who do you think gave him those measurements? God. God did. That's right. He's making it how God wants it. It's horns were of one piece with it. Where do you think the horns were? On the top. On the top? Do you think they were on the sides? No. No? Where were they? On the top. On the top? Where at on the top?
Like on the sides, like on the corners. On the corners, that's right. The horns were on the corners. And he overlaid it with pure gold. Gold, that's right. It's top, it's sides all around, and it's horns. He also made for it a molding of gold all around it. He made two rings of gold for it under its molding. Why do you think it had the two rings on one side and two rings on the other side? So that you could put poles through it. You're so smart. So you can put poles through it. by its two corners on both sides as holders for the poles which will bear it. And he made the poles, what type of wood do you think he made it of?
Acacia. Acacia wood. And overlaid them with? Gold. Gold. He also made the holy anointing oil and the pure incense of sweet spices according to the work of the perfumer. So, if it's going to be in the tabernacle, what type of wood is it going to be made out of? Acacia wood. And then it's going to be overlaid with gold. And then it's going to be overlaid with gold.
So here, Bezalel makes the lampstand and the altar of? Incense. The altar of incense. And what else does he make for the altar of incense? And for the lamp stand? Oh, incense. Incense and oil. Right? You gotta burn the oil and you have to have the incense to burn. Good. Alright. Well, what do you think is the best verse to summarize this? What do you think? I think it's more like, wow, he obeyed God and made it. Okay, well it doesn't actually say here he obeyed God and made it. We just know he did obey God, because who commanded it to be done this way? God. God did.
Alright, so maybe I would underline he also made the lampstand and he made the altar of acacia wood. Sorry, he made the incense altar. Then I would also underline he also made the holy anointing oil and the pure incense. And so these are the three things he makes today.
Is there any guarantee that people are going to do what God commands? Nope. No guarantee at all. So why do you think God would go through a huge amount of time describing how everything was to be made and now he goes through a whole bunch of time saying that somebody actually made it. Why do you think God would do that? Because he did. Because he did. That's right. Does God like obedience? Yes. That's right. Does God Is it glorifying to Him when people hear His word and obey? Yes. That's right.
So, how do you think, right, if you were to think about, okay, how does this apply to my life? How does this teach me about Jesus? How does this teach me about the covenant? What do you guys think? You should obey Him. Why should we obey Him? Because He told us to obey Him. Yeah, are we in covenant with Him? Yeah. He made a covenant with us, right? What did Jesus say at the Last Supper? Remember what He said when He held up the cup? This is the blood of the covenant which is poured out for you. Right? Now are we a slave, like in that way, like slavish obedience?
Or do we obey Him and worship Him as He wants because we love Him? Because we love Him. Or is it because He first loved us? He first loved us and we love Him. There you go. And so because He first loved us, He made us love Him. Now we obey and worship Him.
Alright, you guys ready to pray? Alright, let's pray. Father, we thank You so much that You have called us to worship You in spirit and in truth. We pray that we would have hearts of obedience. That you would give us the wisdom of Bezalel and Aholiub. Lord, that we would be the type of people who would believe and obey. In Jesus' name, Amen. We may God bless you.
