Exodus 29:38–46

Hey, hey, good morning, good morning. Welcome to Coffee and Devotions. This is where every day you and I, we get together, we have a little bit of coffee, we get into God's Word, we grow in our love for the Lord together. And this year, 2023, Lord willing, we'll make it from Genesis through Leviticus. I'm so glad to be with you today. Let's have some coffee, we'll pray, and we'll get into God's Word.
Let's pray. Father, we thank you so much for this day. We pray Lord that you would please help us to understand your word and that you would care for us. We pray Lord that you would teach us to walk in your ways in Jesus's name. Amen. Okay. So we are at Exodus chapter 29 beginning at verse 38. Here we go.
Now this is what you shall offer on the altar two lambs for the first year day by day continually. One lamb you shall offer in the morning and the other lamb you shall offer at twilight. With the one lamb shall be one-tenth of an ephah, a fine flour, a flour mixed with one-fourth of a hen of pressed oil, and one-fourth of a hen of wine as a drink offering. And the other lamb you shall offer at twilight, and you shall offer with it the grain offering and the drink offering as in the morning for a sweet aroma. an offering made by fire to the Lord. There shall be a continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the door of the tabernacle of meeting before the Lord, where I will meet you to speak with you.
And there I will meet with the children of Israel, and the tabernacle shall be sanctified by my glory. So I will consecrate the tabernacle of meeting and the altar. I will also consecrate both Aaron and his sons to minister to me as priests. I will dwell among the children of Israel and be their God. And they shall know that I am Jehovah their God, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt, that I may dwell among them. I am Jehovah their God. Well, we need to ask ourselves, A, what is this about? B, what's the best verse to summarize this? And C, what are we called to do in response to this? Right. So what is this about?
This is God saying there's going to be a daily sacrifice. So there's really two things. The first is it's going to be a daily sacrifice, actually two daily sacrifices, morning and evening. But then also this promise and this change this daily sacrifice let's start there this promise or this daily this this daily sacrifice there should be two right two lambs that are going to be offered uh less than a year old morning and morning and at twilight 1 tenth of an ifa, about 13 gallons of flour that's mixed with about a fifth a gallon of pressed oil and a fifth a gallon of wine for drink offering. Day by day, all their generations, this perpetual morning and evening sacrifice.
And it's going to happen. But then something changes. Something changes. in verse 43 when he says to them that they are going to make these sacrifices and there, I will meet with the children of Israel and the tabernacle shall be sanctified by my glory. This is this interesting thing. We've just gone through all of chapter 28 and the first part of chapter 29 to see how they were supposed to consecrate themselves and how the tabernacle was supposed to be devoted, all these different things.
But without God's presence, they still would not be holy. They would not be consecrated. Even Aaron and his sons, did you pick up that? I will also consecrate both Aaron and his sons to minister to me as priests. The Lord is going to consecrate himself by his presence.
The Lord was going to consecrate them and he promises in verse 45, I will dwell among the children of Israel and be their God. And they shall know that I am the Lord, their God. It's God who's going to dwell with them in this tabernacle. The God who the highest of the heavens cannot contain Him is going to make Himself known in His glory. dwelling amongst men in the tabernacle. He's going to be there with his people so they might know that it was him, the Lord God Almighty himself, who redeemed them from the land of Egypt.
What's this about? Morning and evening sacrifice, promise of presence and consecration. This is a meeting of heaven and earth. God coming to men on his terms, being with them, being their God, being their Redeemer. Well, what's the best verse to summarize this? Well, that's gonna be a hard one. I have verse 43 underlined. I have verse 44 underlined. I have parts of verse 45 underlined. I have parts of verse 46 underlined. You can let me know down in the comments. What do you have underlined in your Bible? Well, I see calling. What are we called to do?
Well, you know, there's no more temple anymore. There's literally no temple in Jerusalem anymore. It's destroyed in 70 AD. So, I mean, you don't go, like when you go to church, you don't go to the temple. What are you doing? Well, since you do actually go to the temple, but the temple is not the building. The New Testament will say that we go to the temple not made by human hands, but one made with living stones.
One Christian, next Christian, next Christian, next Christian. And when we are together, God's presence is with us. God does meet with us in a special way. And he has consecrated our high priest. It's not me. I'm just a pastor, right? I'm just an under shepherd. I'm just a teaching elder. But the high priest he's consecrated is Jesus Christ himself. And he has now consecrated you, believer, as a priest.
Not to bring the offering of blood and of goats and bulls and lambs. No, that's not this offering you bring. But the sacrifice of praise. To sing to his glory. So we come to him and we worship him now. Praising the lamb who was slain. Worshipping him and bringing to him our songs of praise. Because this is what we do as a royal nation, as a nation of priests, as a living temple of God. And so go to him, follow him, love him, sing his praises. Don't forsake the assembling of yourselves together as is the manner of some, but go and worship. for the lamb is worthy. He's redeemed us by the cost of his own blood to go rejoice in him. Let's pray.
Father, we thank you so much for this day and we thank you, thank you, thank you for redeeming us, for giving us your Holy Spirit and for making us your people. and for dwelling amongst us by your spirit. Lord, we look forward to that great day when we will go and see the heavenly tabernacle. When we will go. And we will see you. The one who has redeemed us. In Jesus's name, Amen.
