Exodus 25:23–30

Hey, good morning. Good morning. Welcome to coffee and devotions. Devotions. This is where every day you and I, we get together. We get into God's word and we grow in our love for Lord together. And this year, 2023, Lord willing, we'll make it from Genesis through Leviticus. I'm so glad to be with you today. We're going to continue on in the tabernacle. So wonderful. What a great passage to show us these heavenly realities. Let's have some coffee. We'll pray and we'll get into God's word. Let's pray. Father, we thank you for your word. And we pray that you would teach us. Please help us, Lord, to follow after you, to walk in your ways. Please, Lord, work in us in Jesus' name. Amen. Exodus chapter 25. Exodus chapter 25, and we'll begin with verse 23.
You shall also make a table of acacia wood, two cubits shall be its length, a cubit its width, and a cubit and a half its height. And you shall overlay it with pure gold, and make a molding of gold all around. You shall make for it a frame of a hand-breath all around, and you shall make a gold molding of the frame all around. And you shall make for it four rings of gold and put the rings on the four corners that are on that are at its four legs. The rings shall be close to the frame as holders for the poles to bear the table. And you shall make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold that the table may be carried with them. You shall make its dishes, its pans, its pitchers, and its bowls for pouring. You shall make them of pure gold, and you shall set the showbread on the table before me always."
Well, we need to ask ourselves, hey, what's this about? B, what's the best verse to summarize this? And C, what do we call it to do? Well, I'm just going to go ahead and Put this in there as B, what's the best verse to start with? Verse 23, right? They need to make a table for the showbread. That's the first thing here. But what's this about? What is this table, right?
This is a really common thing that you would find in ancient temples where people would come and they would bring food to feed the deity. God is the one who says, if I was hungry, would I tell you? If I was thirsty, would I let you know? The tabernacle was never meant, or the temple even, was never meant because God was hungry. But the table on it had 12 pieces of unleavened flatbread, one for each of the tribes of Israel.
And it was meant to show that it was God who brought them their daily bread. It was God who brought them the harvest. It was God who was supplying for them. It was God who was to be caring for them. But what happened is actually it was the priests who would end up eating this. Aaron would eat this. So it wasn't meant for God's consumption. This wasn't burned on the fire.
Every week, seven new pieces of bread, or 12 new loaves of bread would show up. And so we'll get into that later when we get into more of the ceremonial laws, but this is again this view of the tabernacle as God's palace, God's temple, God's holy dwelling. He's there in the midst of his people and at his table There's always life. At his table, there is always sustenance. At his table, there is always provision. At his table, there is always blessing. So this is what the table was for. Well, I've already said what the best verse was. Well, seek calling. Right? And I'm going to use calling in Christ, right? Maybe we should change it when we're in the Old Testament to see what are we called to do and where does it show us Christ?
I think Christ is that bread of life. That Christ is the one who is our sustenance. Christ is the one who has come to us and given each and every tribe their own. To all the nations, all the people, he's the covenant one. He's the bread of heaven. He's the bread of life.
And so he's the one, again, as our high priest who is in the heavenly reality of what these pictures are, that there is a table before him set, a table where his royal priesthood can come, a wedding supper, a lamb's feast, where they could come, we could come, and we could feed and have satisfaction for our souls forever.
Go to Jesus. Go to the bread of life. Go to the royal table. Feast upon him and find satisfaction for your soul. Let's pray. Father, we thank you so much for giving us Jesus Christ, the bread of life. We thank you. that though we do not have a tabernacle made by human hands anymore, we don't need one. For you have given us a high priest, Jesus Christ, who dwells in heaven with a tabernacle made not by human hands. but you have prepared for us in your presence fullness of joy. In Jesus's name. Amen. May God bless you. May you walk in the joy that comes from knowing that you are one of God's sheep and that he is a shepherd of his people. I'll see you next time. Bye.
