Scripture Passage
"Now this is the commandment, and these are the statutes and judgments which the Lord your God has commanded to teach you, that you may observe them in the land which you are crossing over to possess,
that you may fear the Lord your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged.
Therefore hear, O Israel, and be careful to observe it, that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the Lord God of your fathers has promised you—a land flowing with milk and honey.
"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one!
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
"And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.
You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

hey hey good morning good morning welcome to coffee and devotions this morning we're at Deuteronomy chapter 6: 10- 25 we're going to look at God's warnings against Disobedience let's have some coffee we'll pray and get into God's word let's pray father we thank you so much for this day what a blessing it is to get to read your word what a joy it is to get to serve you and to follow in your ways God we pray that you would please help us give us your spirit Lord to understand the words on the page what they meant for the people then and how they should apply to our lives today we need your instruction Lord we pray for your help in Jesus's name amen all right so here we go Deuteronomy chap 6 beginning at verse 10 and it shall be when the Lord your God brings you into the land of which he swore to your fathers to Abraham Isaac and Jacob to give you large and beautiful cities which you did not build houses full of all good things which you did not fill he out Wells which you did not dig Vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant when you have eaten and are full then beware lest you forget the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt from the house of bondage you shall fear the lord your God and serve him and shall take Oaths in his name you shall not go after other gods the gods of the people who are all around you for the Lord your God is a jealous God among you lest the anger of the Lord your God be aroused against you and destroy you from the face of the Earth You shall not tempt the Lord your God as you tempted him in Massa you shall diligently keep the Commandments of the Lord your God his testimonies and his statutes which he has commanded you and you shall do what is right and good in the sight of the Lord that it may be well with you and that you may go in and possess the good the good land of which the Lord swore to your fathers to cast out all your enemies from before you as the Lord has spoken when your son asks you in time to come saying what is the meaning of this of the testimonies the statutes and the judgments which the Lord Our God has commanded you then you shall say to your son we were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt and the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and the Lord showed signs and wonders before our eyes great and severe against Egypt pharaoh and all his household then he brought us out of there that he might bring us in and give us the land which he swore to our fathers and the Lord commanded us to observe all these statutes to fear the lord Our God for our good always that he might preserve Us Alive as it is this day then it will be righteousness for us if we are careful to observe all these Commandments before the Lord Our God as he has commanded us well we need to ask ourselves our three questions like every day a what is this about B what's the best verse to summarize this and C what are we called to do in response to these words so a what is this about well we've just gotten the great shama hero Israel the Lord your God the Lord is one you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart with all your soul and with all your strength and then they ought to teach it to their children inscribe it upon their hearts pass it down from generation to generation and now we come to this section so that they are called to not forget that it is the Lord who redeemed them this is a section commanding them to remember it was Jehovah who redeemed them it was the god of their Redemption who's their Covenant King and so they're going to go into the land and the Lord knows this is a precarious dangerous situation they're going into enemy territory and there's going to be a very acute danger for them and that danger is that they may start worshiping the gods of the people there right they may take on ball they may go start worshiping ashra or chimos or Molech or any of the other Canaanite type gods and the Lord is saying to them you got to be careful you can't do it right this is what he's getting at in verses 12 through 15 15 beware lest you forget the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt from the house of bondage you shall fear the lord your God and serve him and shall take Oaths in his name you shall not go after other after other gods the gods of the peoples who are around you for the Lord your God is a jealous God and notice what it says among you lest lest the anger of the Lord your God be aroused against you and destroy you from the face of the Earth see it is the Lord who is The Sovereign in this Covenant and if his people go and they they play Benedict Arnold they go and they start worshiping other gods the cosmic treason they go against their Covenant king and the Lord says he will discipline them for this he walks amongst them he is in their midst and so if they go and start committing spiritual adultery or Cosmic treason the Lord's going to judge them for this that so he's telling them you got to love me right there is no other gods it's just me and the way that this will continue from generation to generation is you tell it to your children when they're curious talk to them about it remind them of the testimonies remind them of the judgments remind them of the statutes remind them of the Redemption of the king of heaven so that's what this passage is about well what's the best verse to summarize this well in my Bible I have verses 12 through 15 underlined you could disagree with that maybe you would underline something else that you think it's at the best ver for this but last seek calling what are we called to do we're in the same boat guys we struggle with the same thing don't we we can go after the gods all around us especially as we live in this pluralistic society especially when people will say you know there's many different roads that go up the same mountain and all of them lead to God will we believe what Jesus says I am the way the truth and the life no one comes to the father except through me do we worship that one true Living God do we come through the Sun by The Power of the Holy Spirit and do we serve him alone or will we be enticed by the gods of This World by the people who come knocking at your door trying to Pedal their cult will you hold firm to the god of your salvation will you trust in Jesus Christ who redeemed you from sin and death and will you love him only I hope that you will I pray that you will let's pray now father you have redeemed us not with gold or silver but with the blood of your own son Lord you put to shame the rulers and the principalities of the air Lord Lord you defeated even our greatest foe sin death and Satan Lord we pray that you'd make us faithful to you Lord we pray that we would follow after you and we thank you Lord that just as you moved Heaven and Earth to redeem your people out of the land of Egypt so you moved Heaven and Earth to send your son born of a woman under the law to live a perfect life and that though he suffered under your hand by the authority of pontious pilate Lord he became a vicarious sacrifice for us and once again you did something amazing father death had no claim over him and you Rose your son up again and he ascended up into heaven he sits at your right hand so Lord we pray that we would rest in you trust in you love you and follow you because the Redemption that you've given us is amazing thank you God in Jesus's name amen well may you love the Lord may you follow him may you go after his ways may he strengthen you may you endure I'll see you next time bye
