Deuteronomy 16:13-17

hey hey good morning good morning welcome to coffee and devotions this morning we're at Deuteronomy chapter 16: 13-1 17 we're going to talk about the last of the three required feasts for all the guys in Israel kind of what that means for us so we'll look at the Feast of booths at the Feast of Tabernacles let's have some coffee we'll pray and get into God's word let's pray father thank you so much for this day thank you for your word Lord we pray that you would please help us as we read that we would understand it Lord we pray that we would know who you are that we would walk in your ways that we would trust your Commandments that we would go where you have led us Lord thank you for who you are please give us your spirit now in Jesus's name amen all right here we go Deuteronomy chapter 16 beginning at verse 13-1 17 you shall observe the Feast of Tabernacles seven days when you have gathered from your threshing floor and from your wine press and you shall rejoice in your Feast you and your sons and your daughter your male servant and your female servant and the levite The Stranger and the fatherless and the Widow who are within your Gates seven days you shall keep a sacred Feast to the Lord your God in the place which the Lord chooses because Jehovah your God will bless you in all your produce and in all the work of your hand hands so that you surely Rejoice three times a year all your males shall appear before yahovah your God in the place which he chooses at the Feast of unleavened bread at the Feast of Weeks and at the Feast of Tabernacles and they shall not appear before Jehovah empty-handed every man shall give as he is able according to the blessing of the Lord your God which he has given you so we need to ask our three questions a what's this about B what's the best verse to summarize this and C what are we called to do in response to this so a what is this about well we've gone through what these different uh ceremonies were right so the first part verses 1 through eight we talked about the Feast of unleavened bread the Passover and then the Feast of unleavened bread that would follow and then also or sorry backwards but then also last time Deborah and I got together and we talked about the Feast of Weeks right and so these s weeks after the the the harvest has come up and they're putting a sickle to the Grain and and it's the rejoicing in the Harvest God gave them from the grain Harvest well now we come to the last of these three so we have the Feast of unleavened bread or the Passover we have the Feast of Weeks now we have the Feast of Tabernacles so the Feast of booths when you have gathered together from your threshing floor and from your wine press right you've done all these you've done all this now you're going to go and this is this going to wherever the Tabernacle is eventually the temple and it will be at Jerusalem this third Ceremony this third uh rejoicing of going and remembering that God brought them out of Egypt he redeemed them and he's given them the joy of sustenance he's blessed them with all the good things notice and you shall rejoice in your Feast you and your sons and your daughters your male servants and your female servant and the levite The Stranger and the fatherless and the Widow who are within your Gates Right This is a sacred Feast after they've gone to the threshing floor after the Harvest is over after they've they've pressed out all the wine right this is the Feast of Weeks was remembering that God was going to right it's almost like the Feast of the first fruits now it's the final right now it's all of it's done they have all they need praise God for what he's done they go and they set up tents or booths Tabernacles and they remember that they once wandered the Wilderness but God redeemed them God brought them to his promised land their Covenant King was good to them and he provided for them so this this was that last kind of big camp out Gathering big feast and celebration wherever the Tabernacle was they would go and they would thank the Lord for what he had done right as God prospered them so they would give unto the Lord so that's what this is about but there notice the very last part here the last paragraph 18 through 7 or 16 through 17 was talking about three times a year all the males are supposed to go right so everybody's invited but the males must show up right the heads of the family they got to show up for these three feasts right three times a year they're to go up to Jerusalem they're supposed to go well it will be eventually Jerusalem right first at Shiloh and and other places right when when there a tabernacle Moving on but they'll eventually all go to Jerusalem three times a year that's where they celebrate the Passover that's where they celebrate the Feast of Weeks that's where they celebrate the Feast of Tabernacle three times a year all the males must go it's a requirement for them and so every man shall give as he is able according to the blessing of the Lord your God which he has given you three times a year it's baked into the Israelite system routine that they were to remember that their God was a God who was good to them their God was a God who kept his promises their God was The God Who provided for them the Lord their God the Lord their God the Lord your God the Lord your God again and again and again this is repeated why because they were so easy to forget the Lord their God so this is meant to stir up their hearts remember year after year God was good God was true God was faithful and they could trust him so that's what this is about be best verse what the summarize H best verse to summarize this would probably be verse 13 but I would say verse 16 I think gets at the whole section of chapter 16 so 16 I think is a good verse for all of 16 with the three different beasts well last seek calling what are we called to do do you remember the Lord is good to you when you eat do you thank God for the food he's provided for you when you get your paycheck do you rejoice that the lord gave you a job do you thank the Lord for your home when you drink water do you thank the Lord that the tap work when the air conditioning kicks on or the furnace turns on in the winter do you thank the Lord when you tie your shoes in the morning do thank God for shoes and I got to tell you I've been in some pretty poor places in the world there's a lot we take for granted God has been good to you if you are watching this that means you're watching it on some type of screen me you're not poor God's given you so much do you routinely and regularly thank the Lord for he is good let's pray God we thank you that you are good that your mercies are new every morning your compassion does not fa even in the darkest hours of our night of our Lives Lord you you are still good you are wonderful you've kept your promises and Lord even though our flesh May Fail fail us and our hearts May grow weak Lord we know that our redeemer lives and we know that even even today there's a time for rejoicing a time to have hope because you are a king in Jesus's name we pray amen I pray that you are filled with gratitude and things that you look unto God and you recognize all the good things he's given to you and you're filled with contentment and joy in Jesus I'll see you next time bye
