Deuteronomy 1:19-33

good morning good morning welcome to coffee and devotions this morning we're at Deuteronomy chapter 1: 19-33 Dan Dan Kay man is here with me this morning why we why don't we have some coffee pray and we'll get into God's word coffee is are hot oh that's really hot you don't want to get okay okay why don't we pray it's too hot yeah do you want to pray or do you want me to pray you me okay let's pray God we thank you so much much for this day what a blessing it is to get to read your word father we pray that you would please help us to understand it we pray that your Holy Spirit would teach us and apply the words of your word to our hearts we need your Holy Spirit to do this in Jesus's name amen all right so here we go Deuteronomy right over here verse 19 so I will let you read okay so we we mm so we departed orb yep and good job and all all that great and terrible wilderness which you saw on the to the mountains of the amorites good job keep going as mountain of the amorites as the Our God had commanded us then we came to Kadesh Bara and I said to you you have came come to the mountains of the amorites which the Lord our God is giving us look look the Lord God has set the land before before you you you you go up and possess it as the Lord your God your fathers has spoken oh no yawns those are contagious and every one of oh I've spoken to you do not fear or be discouraged right so be discouraged verse [Music] 22 of you came near to me and said let us send men before us let them search out the land for us bring back word to us of the way by which we should go up and of the Cities into which we shall come the plan pleased me well so I took 12 of your men one man from each tribe and departed and into the mountains and came to the valley of esll and SPI and and SPI out SPI it out good job what happened next verse 25 they also took took some of the root of the land in the and and brought it down to us down to us and they they brought back word saying it is a good land is a good land in which the God Is Us nevertheless as you would not go up but rebelled against command ofand of the you God your God you complained tense and said so they complained in their tense and said complained in good job because the Lord hat because the Lord hates us he H has brought us us he has brought us out of the land of Egypt to deliver us into the amorites to destroy us right to destroy us we up our Brethren have discouraged our hearts saying great the people are greater and taller than then we can the cities are and fortified up and moreover we have seen the sons of the anakim there that's like the Giants they is then I said to [Music] you no that's a hard word terrify do not be terrified afraid of the Lord your God who goes before you in Egypt no no no above that the Lord your God who goes before you he will fight nope not fight you he will it's not that the Lord's going to fight them it says he will fight for you for you according to all he did to all he did you in Egypt before you before your eyes and and in the Wilderness where you saw how the Lord your God carried you you as a man carries his son as man carries his son in all the way that you went until you came to this place yet for all that you did not believe the Lord God who went in the way a before you and before you to search a place search out a well now you got to change your page search out a place for you to P your t the PCT tense way go in the in the fire by night and theold and in the cloud by by day okay so he says they were they had gotten to Kadesh Bara that's right next to the promised land just south of it and they said hey Moses hey Moses well first we need to ask ourselves a what is this B what is the best best ver to summarize and see what are we what are we called to do uh so hey what is this about so they get to Kadesh Bera and they are right about to enter the promised land and they say hey Moses hey Moses we want to go see the land first so what does Moses do he's like oh we'll send out spies good we'll send out some spies they go even to the valley of escal and what do they find fruit it's is it a good land yeah great is it just like God had promised yeah so they come back and they say we got it boys we can do this is that what happens nope what happens Crush like little yeah you guys will get crushed like little tiny ants they're like Giants and we're like little tiny yeah little TR tiny peeny grasshoppers right now notice what he said here right even though they brought back some of the word on all this nevertheless you would know go not go up for you rebelled against the command of the Lord your God and you complained in your tents and said because the Lord now notice this notice what they think about God they say the Lord hates us he has brought us out of the land of Egypt to deliver us into the hand of the amorites to destroy us does it sound like they have faith nope does it sound like they're trusting God nope God will get back yeah where can we go up our Brethren have discouraged our hearts saying the people have greater and taller than than we the cities are great and fortified up to heaven right they're saying they got huge cities how can we ever fight them and there's even Giants and so will they go it's Goliath in there nope not Goliath in there but uh will they so are they going to go nope nope but did did Moses try to encourage them yep yeah right what did he say in verse 30 this is what I got underlined that's actually what I think is the best verse Lord the Lord your God who goes before you he will fight for you according to all he did for you in Egypt before your eyes right the Lord will do this the Lord could do it did Moses try to encourage them yep so Moses is telling this generation right Moses is telling this generation that hey remember what your fathers did right sometimes do I have to do that yeah sometimes do I have to say hey Dan Dan don't make the same dumb mistakes I made yep yeah right that's what Moses is kind of doing here he's trying to tell them oh my God I I won't get to see it yeah right is Moses going to get to see the promised land because he s yeah because he sned right but does he want the people to get God's promises yeah he loves he wants to get let them do it mhm yeah that's right want to see the promis lands live there have a good life that's right do you think that that's what I want for you I want you to move to Canaan and and fight the amalekites and the Canaanites yeah let's go in army no so what do you think this calls us to do uh that we should obey God okay obey him why should we obey him because it's just the right thing to do or what what it what do you think the motivation for obedience should be last let uh if you go back like 100 years ago uh a thousand years ago oh oh uh God was more serious that I think he's just as serious today but I don't does he talk out of clouds no he doesn't do that type of stuff anymore I don't think but uh but does the Lord still take it seriously that we need to follow him to obey him but I think he tells us to have faith the same way he was challenging them to believe they had seen it with their eyes did they did they see what happened in Egypt uh well yeah yeah their daddies did right if that was a a giant storm we were going the shelter yeah but God can still be that when those horrible yeah but the point is they had seen God do amazing things in Egypt but did they trust him nope so my question is can you trust him uh I don't know yeah I think well I think this is what Romans tells us right that we know that all things work together for the good of those who love him and have been called according to his purposes right so even when there's difficult things in our lives or scary things in our lives can we trust that God has a plan can we trust that God knows what he's doing does that make it easy no no but can we go through with confidence and and peace yep yeah because God's watching over you that's right because God's watching over you isn't it and then God does specs of D they are right the Giants are like spec of dust to him all right you ready to pray so get that's right he could hey do you want to pray or do you want me to pray uh yeah I'll try okay go ahead I bet you're going to do great God that we want on that we need to obey God on and we you need to uh trust in him even when times get really really hard in Jesus name amen amen well we pray that the Lord blesses you as you trust in him even in the dark and difficult days even when it's
