Deuteronomy 10:12-22

Well, good morning, good morning, welcome to coffee and devotions this morning We are at the last or a second half of Deuteronomy. Whoa cool guy We're at the second half of Deuteronomy chapter 10 some of my favorite verses in the entire Bible about who God is So let me grab my coffee here.
We'll pray and we'll get into God's Word You want some coffee? Drink all of it It's hot. You only drink iced coffee. You're silly. I Alright, you ready to pray? Would you like to pray or do you want me to pray? Uh, I would. Okay. God, thank you for this day. Let's hope that we have a good night tonight. Now we have a copy and a version. Amen. Amen. We're going to take these guys off so people don't think you got a black eye or something. All right. Deuteronomy chapter 10, beginning at verse 12. You ready? We go right here.
And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? But to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways and to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. and to keep the commandments of the Lord and His statutes which I command you today for your good.
Indeed, heaven and the highest heavens belong to the Lord your God, also the earth with all that is in it. The Lord delighted only in your fathers to love them, and He chose their descendants after them, above all the peoples, as it is this day. Therefore, circumcise the foreskin of your heart and be stiff-necked no longer. For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality nor takes a bribe. He administers justice for the fatherless and the widow and loves the stranger, giving him food and clothing.
Therefore, love the stranger for you were strangers in the land of egypt you shall fear the lord your god you shall serve him and do and to him you shall hold fast and take oaths in his name He is your praise, and He is your God, who has done forth you these great and awesome things which your eyes have seen. Your fathers went down to Egypt with 70 people, and now the Lord your God has made you as the stars of the heaven in multitude."
What do you think, pretty good? Yep. What do you think that was about? It was probably about what God is talking about and God needs you to do this. All right. So Moses is the one is this his sermon, right? And so Deuteronomy is largely kind of different parts of Moses' sermon. And he's saying, what does God require of you but to fear the Lord, your God, and walk in all his ways to love him and serve the Lord, your God with all your heart and all your soul? That's basically what God said. Yeah. Right. You love the Lord. But what is the Lord like? What did it tell us the Lord was like? So and he's not merciless he's merciful Multitude right he's multiplied them as the stars the heaven in multitude There's a whole bunch of them.
They went down to Egypt and there was only 70 of them. Oh Now there's thousands upon thousands upon thousands. Yeah, over a million. Most people think. Not a billion. Yeah, right. But I love this part about God, right? He is the God of gods and the Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome. And does he hate the widow? Does he pervert justice? No, he does not pervert justice. He doesn't twist it. Pervert means like twisting or doing wrong or evil. No, he doesn't do that. Does he steal from the poor? Does he oppress the orphan? No. No, he's a good God.
Will he take bribes? no he's mighty and he's awesome and he's good and so we're what are we supposed to do are we supposed to turn away from him no what should we do obey him love him hold on to him right that's what it says here right he says verse 16 sorry verse 16 therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart and be stiff neck no longer Well, no, stiff neck means like you're going to go one way and nobody can turn you another way.
Like, could you imagine a horse? Right. If you had if you had a bit in a horse's mouth and you pull on one side and the horse goes and it wants to just keep on going straight, even though you keep trying to get it to go the other way. It's like this. Mm hmm. Yeah, that's what he's saying, that they could be like, is that what we can be like sometimes? Mm hmm. But should we be like that? By God did this go like this? That's right. God can turn our hearts like God can make us love him Can do this to everybody?
Yeah. So, best verse. Well, you know what? I have verse 12 underlined, I have verse 13 underlined, I have verse 16 underlined, I have verse 18, 19, 20, 21, and 22 double underlined, and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 stars down the side. I have all sorts of things. Because this is an amazing part about the essence of who God is and why we follow the law. I would underline everything. You would underline everything. Okay, well let's talk about seek calling. What do you think you're called to do? You're called to... You're called to obey God. Okay, why? Because God commanded you to and he's a gracious God.
Oh, I thought he was like a jerk tyrant. He's jealous. He's jealous for his own glory, that's right. But is that because he's like a puny God who is just like a megalomaniac after his own power? No, he's like... Yeah, it's because he is the great God. That's right. Well, like. That's right, that's right. Is it is it a blessing to get to serve that type of God? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Hey, can I pray for us? OK, or do you want to pray for us? Yeah. OK. God, thank you so much. Can you say that?
God, thank you so much for the blessing it is to get to know who you are. Lord, we thank you that you are a God who is the great, mighty and awesome God. Lord, we pray that you indeed would have us have tender hearts. To hear. To understand, to believe and to walk in your ways. Father, we pray that your spirit would help us give us strength to follow after you. Thank you for Jesus. And thank you for sending your Holy Spirit in Jesus's name, we pray. Amen.
