Hebrews 8:1-6

Hey, good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Welcome to coffee and devotions this morning We are at the main point of all of this Hebrews chapter 8 verses 1 through 6 What is the author of Hebrews been at or about? spoiler alert about Jesus So let's have some coffee. We'll pray and we'll get into God's Word.
You don't want any hot coffee. It's hot I'll drink some Well, I don't think it's that hot. The cup is hot, but I don't think the liquid is too hot. Just take a little sip. Be careful. The liquid is hot. Be careful. It might turn you into a man. The liquid is hot. Okay. All right. Let's go. Oh, you're going to drink your imaginary coffee? All right.
By the way, thank you so much for this day. Thank you for your word. Thank you for the blessing it is to get to spend time together. We pray that your spirit would let your word teach us, encourage us, in Jesus' name. Amen. Alright, Hebrews chapter 8, verses 1 through 6. So we've got 6 verses. You ready? 6 verses? Yep. Wow, that's so much. Now this is the main point of the things we are saying. So this is kind of like, he's kind of wrapping this up. Ready?
We have such a high priest who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the majesty in the heavens, a minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not a man. For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices. Therefore it is necessary that this one also have something to offer. For if he were on earth, he would not be a priest, since there are priests who offer gifts according to the law, who serve the copy and shadow of the heavenly things.
As Moses was divinely instructed when he was about to make the tabernacle, for he said, what see that you make all things according to the pattern shown you on the mountain but now he has obtained a more excellent ministry in as much as he is also mediator of a better covenant which was also established on better promises all right so we got three questions a what is this b what's the Yeah, the best verse to summarize, you're going to underline all six?
That's not what I would do. And what are we, C? Called to do. So what is this about? What's the main point that he's getting at? We have such a high priest. Who is that high priest? Well, Jesus specifically, right? So Jesus is our high priest. And where is Jesus at?
He's seated at the right hand of the throne of the majesty in the heavens. And he's the minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected. Did somebody go into heaven and make a tabernacle? No, who made the tabernacle in heaven?
God did, that's right. And so the difference is between what's going on up in heaven, up here Dan, up in heaven, and what's going on down here on earth. So it's kind of like there's a picture and the picture here on earth is what Moses was given. But what's the picture supposed to be of? What's really going on in heaven.
If you were to take a photograph, right? If you were to take a camera and you took a picture of daddy and you printed out that picture and you had a photograph in your hand, so you have a photograph, act like you have a photograph. Oh, okay. Now what's the real daddy? The one on the photograph or the one or the one where you're on my lap. Yeah. Yeah. Right. If you had to choose one, which one would you want the photograph or the real dad? Yeah. Is the photograph an accurate representation of Daddy? Yes. But is it the fullness of the Daddy?
No. No, that's what it's saying here, right? The tabernacle was meant to be a picture to show you as a type and a shadow of things that were done in Heaven, right? Heaven. That's what this is about. Can you turn this way? It's getting a little bit hard to hold you here.
So, on earth there were already priests, right? Levi had a son, his son was eventually Aaron, and Aaron had his sons, and they were the priests, and they had gifts and sacrifices. The people on earth didn't need those, right? There was already a priest there. But, was there a priest in heaven yet? No, in the heavenly tabernacle. Who needed to become the priest there? Jesus. That's what this is getting at. It's getting at Jesus. Jesus is what Aaron was supposed to point to. Holiness unto the Lord. Jesus was the one.
Remember Aaron had the little jewels, onyx stones on his shoulders that had the names of the people, the twelve tribes written on it, because he was supposed to be bearing up the people. Who really bore our names before God? Jesus. The high priest there was supposed to have a breastplate, and on that breastplate, made out of gold, there was twelve different stones with the twelve different tribes of Abraham. He was representing all the people of God. Who represents all the people of God in heaven?
Jesus. The high priest was supposed to wear a turban over his head, and on that was a gold plate or crown, and on it was written, Holiness unto the Lord. Kadosh le'adonai. And who really is holy to the Lord? Jesus. Jesus. The high priest was supposed to wear the blue and the white, and it was supposed to show both their royalty and their purity. Who is the king of kings? Who is pure in every way? Jesus, right? That's the whole point, right?
Because Jesus, and guess what I have underlined as best verse? Verse six, look, see, I have a double underlined. Some places I have triple underlined. That's why I think that's the best verse. But he has obtained a more excellent ministry. And as much as he is also a mediator of a better covenant, which was also established on better promises. A more excellent ministry, a mediator of a better covenant, and established on better promises. Jesus' ministry is all better. Better and more and gooder and better. Better, better, better, baddest, better, better, best. I don't think bestest and better and gooder are real words. But they'll work here, right? Bestestest. Bestestest, bestestestestestest.
Right? And so what is this talking about? If you had to, mom says, Dan Dan, what did you learn with daddy in his office today? What would you tell her? About God. Okay, what would you tell her about Jesus? Uh, Jesus is the priest, high priest. Good. Jesus is the better high priest. All right. Uh, okay.
Well, what do you think we're called to do? What application is there from this? Solve God and you're not high priest or not the best. Okay, we can serve the Lord, but who's ultimately our High Priest? Jesus. Jesus. I think we can take hope in Jesus. Do we need to think, oh, you know, maybe we should go to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple? Oh yeah, let's do that. Why would we do that? To serve God. But who's serving in Heaven? Jesus. So, does Jesus really need?
Nope. No. Oh, I know! We should go back to the Old Testament sacrifices. Yeah! No, why do we not need to go back to the Old Testament sacrifices? Because Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice. That's right, because it was all pointing to Jesus. Oh, I know! Daddy should start wearing all sorts of fancy priestly garments. Yeah! I can walk around and act like a priest. Yeah, you can go to church with that on. Yeah, what do you think? Does that sound good? Yeah. Yeah? Why does Daddy not need to do that? Jesus is the priest, high priest, isn't he? Yeah.
Now we are a royal priesthood, a holy nation. There's a priesthood. There's a priesthood of all believers in a sense. Right. But the point being is that do we need to make these sacrifices again and again and again? No, no. Jesus made a sacrifice once for all, and so we can trust in him.
I think there's a lot of applications for this for us. You ready to pray? You pray. I pray. Okay. Lord, thank you so much for giving us Jesus, our great high priest, who has a better ministry. who is the mediator of a better covenant and has better promises. Lord, we pray that you would please let us trust and rest in the finished work of Jesus. Thank you for giving us our high priest. In his name we pray. Amen. Well, God bless you.
