Hey, good morning. Good morning. Welcome to Coffee and devotions, gonna jump online and make sure everybody is able to join us this morning. Let's go ahead and go over here and make sure that everybody's able to join us live up it's not quite there yet almost
Well, Nathan came into my bedroom this morning, a couple hours before sunrise and said, Dad, can I do coffee and devotions? So I'm glad to see that Bubba likes to wake up early, early, early early and come join in for devotions. Let's go ahead and make sure we're going live on the computer over here.
I think we're good.
Wonderful. Well, good morning. Welcome to Coffee and devotions is where every day you and I we get together. We have a little bit coffee. We get into God's word and we grow in our love for the Lord together in this year. 2022 Lord willing, we'll make it from the book of Acts, the book of fight Lehman. We're at Second Corinthians together this morning, second Corinthians chapter for the second half of the chapter. Let's have some coffee. We'll pray and we'll get into God's word. You're ready. No coffee.
No.
All right, let's pray.
Father, thank you so much for this dame.
Thank you for what a blessing it is. To get to come to your word.
Thank you for what a blessing it is to have friends and people we love to join us in reading God's Word together.
We pray that we would follow after you and walk in your ways in Jesus's name, Amen. Second Corinthians chapter four second Corinthians chapter four, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John X. Romans First and Second Corinthians. Almost there. First Corinthians. Maybe just use the ribbon.
Second Corinthians chapter four, beginning at verse seven. You want to sit up a little bit higher so they could see you're better. You're like just a little blip on the screen there. There you go. You can probably sit right here if you want to.
There you go. All right.
First Corinthians four beginning at verse seven. So we'll do here either Why don't you read? 789 Yeah, and or you can read actually seven
through 14, that sounds good. Okay, so we have this treasure in Austin vessels that the that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of the power, not us. We are hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed. We are poor Plex but not in despair.
persecuted but not forsaken, struck down but not destroyed. Always clamoring about in the body that dying.
The dying of the Lord Jesus that the life of Jesus also might be many manifested in our body for we live. We fall we you live are always delivered to death. for Jesus sake. That the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our model flesh, so then death is walking in us. But life in new instance, we have the same theory of faith. According to what is listed, I believe.
In therefore spoke, we also believe in Dale for spoke before speak now knowing that He raised up the Lord Jesus will also wage up what will often always up with you will also raise up will also raise us up and will present just with you for all things are for your sakes that grace having spread through the mini may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God. Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day For our light affliction, which is but for a moment is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. While we do not look at the things which are seen, but of the things which are not seen for the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. So what do we do every time we come to God's word and we do this together for coffee and devotions. First, we have to ask ourselves, What is this about? Hey, what's this about? Be what's best thing so much. It was the best verse to summarize good and see. See calling what are we?
Cool? called to do? That's right. So we want an application right? We want to figure out is this live in my life? So so let's start with this first part, right seven through 16 or seven through 15.
All right, we have this treasure in earthen vessels or earthen vessels being our bodies, right in our bodies. We have this treasure that the excellence of the power may be of God in not of us. So he's going to talk about what this treasure is ready?
We are hard pressed on every side or hard pressed on every side yet we're not what
we're not crushed.
We are perplexed.
Alright, some sometimes in life, especially in the early church, or places where Christianity is illegal or people don't like it.
Can people be kind of pressured? Yeah, but do they have to crumble under that pressure?
can sometimes people scratch their heads like I don't know why this is happening. What's going on?
And does that need to lead them to like no hope at all? Nope. No, it doesn't have to right but not in despair. persecuted but not forsaken, which is persecuted me. Oh.
Oh, it doesn't mean yawning tired.
Means
you might lose your job or you might not be able to get a job or Yeah, yeah, that's right you know so sometimes because you're a Christian people might persecute you by firing you from your job or not hiring you for jobs or kicking you out of your house or or even physically punching you or throwing rocks at you like I have a friend in India. He says this old lady always spit on him and slapped him in the face whenever he walks by.
Right so he's persecuted. But even though we're persecuted, we're not forsake or we're not forsaken.
Struck down but not destroyed.
Why always caring about in the body? The what? The dying of the Lord? Yes, the dying of the Lord Jesus. Why?
That the life of Jesus also may be manifesting.
The life of Jesus might also be manifested Oh
I hear someone hold on Hello
okay.
Oh, mix that up. Sorry.
I thought it was a good I was like why is there a kid running in the church?
Okay, so we're always the delivered to death for Jesus sake that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh, right, even though we might be persecuted in the flesh. Was Jesus persecuted in the flesh? Yeah. And is he alive? That's right. And so we might live So death is working in us, but life in you.
And since we have the same what?
Since we have the same spirit of according to what is written I believed in therefore I spoke. We also believe and therefore. Yeah, but what how does this point us to Jesus?
What is verse 14 Say? Knowing that He who raised up the world Jesus was always up with Jesus. Grace was raised what us up what awaits us up to?
No way. Was Jesus persecuted?
Was Jesus hard pressed to he despair was he forsaken?
Abandoned, crushed.
Actually, he was crushed for our iniquities
Yeah, but was he left dead in the grave?
That's right.
And did God leave him to die and just rot in the tomb?
Nobody raised him. If he did that for Jesus, what's he going to do for us?
She's going to raise us up right? Does that give us hope? Even if someone dies if mommy died on her way to go pick someone up in the car. Would we have to say oh, we have no hope whatsoever.
No, because we know that Mommy would what?
Yeah, Mommy would raise again. Right? At the resurrection. She would live again. Would it still be sad for us? Oh, yeah. Oh yeah, we would still weep. And wail but we would grieve with hope for all things.
Or for your sakes, that grace having sprinted through the mini may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God.
All things are for one.
Go go. Oh, God. That's right. That's right. They're meant to give us to cause us to give thanks. Give thanks in all things. Do you remember when we were reading about Corrie 10 Boom.
And her sister when they were in the concentration camps?
What is her sister wanted her to give things for the fleas fleas. And did Corrie 10 Boom want to know.
And her sister said you got to do it. You got to do it. And she finally got Thank You for the fleas. And then what did they find out about the fleas? They said Jill like whatever they weren't live because they got when they come in. Now the guards wouldn't come in so they could do Bible studies in prayer all the time, because that was the one room that the guards wouldn't actually go in.
Yeah, right. So even those hard things are for God's glory.
Therefore, that means a conclusion of this as we don't want you know, we don't lose heart.
But what about if we're if we're dying?
Yeah, even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being what? Right here.
Renewed renewed day by day.
Just that kind of reminds me of one of their memory verses. Remember Romans chapter 12.
verses one and two. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, you present your bodies as a living sacrifice to God, Jesus and be
the truth transformed by the renewing of your mind. I'm kind of confused by that. Yeah, but
be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Right. So are we renewed every day? Yeah. Does God give us new strength? Does he teach us is his spirit so with us? Does he care for us? Does he love us? That's right. That's right. So we don't need to lose hope for our light affliction, which is but for a moment is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.
Right. It's like, it's like, we're gold.
And how do you get gold to be more pure?
You get up and what happens?
Sometimes that lasts and that's all that the drafts those are our friends in Washington OS. Yeah, the dross and other metals that you don't really need, they'll melt. That's right. So this draft comes off a slag right? You're able to scoop it off and and then you have just the pure gold left. That's like what God's doing in us. Yep. He's we're being refined.
Up which might not be always fun. It doesn't have fun. But it's a glorious when the goal does shine. That's right.
While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen for the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal, eternal.
So what should we be chasing after the stuff in things of this world? Or the glory of God?
Right the glory of God. Is that hard to do sometimes? Yeah. Oh, yeah.
So what do you think was the best verse and all that?
What do you think the best verse was? So we did a What was this about? Now we're at B, what was the best verse to summarize this section?
What did you think?
I think eights and nines eight through nine.
I was thinking that too. Maybe eight through nine or maybe eight through 10.
Yeah, but then you know what happens when I do eight through 10?
Yeah, that I could do more and more and more because they also like verse 14, knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus and will present us with you. I also like that one. I also liked verse 18.
That's like, well it's my Bible I can underline as it is.
Yeah, but then the whole chapter is just I don't have ever done that in books before where the whole page just underlined. Yeah, I shouldn't do that. What would you underline in your Bible? Last see calling. What are we? What do you think? How does this apply to our lives?
That we should not lose hope. Don't lose hope. Okay. Can we take comfort, that no matter what's going on in our life, that God still cares for us?
Can we be renewed each and every day? Bye. How do you think we can do that?
Let's talk about this just for a second. So how are we renewed day by day?
By playing, praying, good how else are we talked about the outward and ordinary means whereby Christ's maketh himself noon
people don't do what you want them to but you're okay with it. Okay, yeah, so but what how do you get okay with it?
So we talked about praying by self control. Well self control the fruit of this, but you think maybe we can go to we can go to the Scriptures. Every day and God can renew us that way. Can we get it by hearing God's word?
Can we be built up and renewed by taking the Lord's Supper?
Can we be built up and renewed by being encouraged by other Christians? Yeah, there's all sorts of ways that God renews us and teaches us right.
All right, well, you ready to pray? Okay, let's pray.
Father, thank you so much for the stain. Thank you for what a blessing it is. To know that the things that are seen are not what's eternal.
But Lord, Your promise that you will raise us up from the dead gives us hope even in the face of death.
Lord, we thank You that we do not need to lose hope.
But we can know that all things work together for our good and your glory. If you have called us to be your people. Please, Lord renew us and give us strength in Jesus's name. Amen.
Well, may the Lord bless you today. May you walk in the joy and peace of Jesus Christ, may you always abound in hope and we'll see you tomorrow. Say bye bye
You
